(word Bubble)> {thought bubble}
When we last saw our hero he defeated the menacing Red Scorpion. Though one cannot predict the future, it does appear that we may surmise that the APW, and the world over is safe. After his huge pay per view victory over his foe, The Emerald Assassin is now fully immersed in his alter, alter ego of a professional wrestler. Over the past few weeks he has been preparing for his next bout. A triple threat for the Tap Out Championship. Not letting the shock of his draft, nor the randomness of his next bout catch him off guard.
Meanwhile, The Emerald Assassin has been trying his very best to get a message to the mysterious man known as The Spectre. After helping Danny escape from TSA agents at an air port The Spectre revealed that a secret organization of crime fighting heroes truly existed and that he and his foe were not only their radar, but top priority. Although he made it clear to Danny that he would be watching, and even communicating from time to time. Danny has not heard anything from him.
Now, with his next match looming Danny has given up on reaching The Spectre. Instead focusing on making his debut to Sunday Night Asylum and event to be remembered. Having already made the flight earlier in the week he, his side kick Peter Eastman and the object of Danny's affection Stacey Gwen are in their respective hotel rooms.
Panel One: Peters glasses are reflecting a light blue hue from the many computer screens in front of him. Danny can be seen over his right shoulder gearing up in his Emerald Assassin uniform. Placing the gloves, belt, and utilities on. Though the mask at this point is sitting on the bed next to him.
(Peter)> There's just so little sense in any of it. Why would he tell you specifically to watch for him, listen for him if he didn't intend to y'know actually communicate.
(Danny)> That's not really a concern of mine right now. I mean yeah dude, my mind was blown. Like full on Hurricane Katrina all over my brain. To think that there is an organization out there that employs super heroes, and somehow keeps everything under the radar of the public is huge. And for this guy to then tell me that they are including me in their roster made me almost pass out. I mean who would ever have thought that was possible?
(Peter)> Well someone had to defeat the Red Scorpion, and you happened to be in the perfect place to do that. Maybe, now that you have defeated him, they are just kind of done with you?
(Danny)> I have considered the possibility, but if that were the case why would they even reach out to me at all? Why couldn't they just wait and see how everything played out before sending Spectre to reveal themselves to me.
(Peter)> I don't know dude, a month ago I just assumed that you were the only jackass running around the streets at night fighting crime in a costume. Y'know cause that is just logical and all. It's not like we can suddenly understand how this incredibly secret society of super heroes work or think.
(Danny)> Exactly man, that's why I am just not really giving it any more thought. Spectre also told me that it was imperative to fully immerse myself into professional wrestling. That it was important that no one understand my ruse. The public must assume that I am simply a wrestler. So that's what I intend to do. Sure, I haven't stopped fighting crime and I am not going to stop. Though it does seem quite important that I continue breaking into the business. And I have a huge match to prepare for.
(Peter)> So you're going out on a run tonight?
(Danny)> Of course. Why wouldn't I?
(Peter)> Well, I assumed that because you were in a submission match that you may want to, at some point, want to learn a submission?
(Danny)> How else am I supposed to learn how to make people submit?
(Peter)> I don't know, go to a gym like a normal person, or take classes like a slightly insane person. But hey, You're Danny Green so of course you must go full on bat crap crazy.
(Danny)> No...I am the Emerald Assassin.
Panel Two: He puts the mask on, it fits perfect without any adjusting.
Panel Three: He takes a running leap through the first story window and rolls to his feet striking a pose.
Panel four: Danny and Peter both engage their blue tooth mobile communication devices and continue to chat as Danny takes to the shadows.
(Peter)> OK, not sure how you want to start this night of fun, but we have a few possibilities on the scanners.
(Emerald Assassin)> Ok, lets hear them.
(Peter)> Well, you have a 10-33 on Andrew Young Boulevard, a 10-59 at Barnett Avenue, and a 10-70...
(Emerald Assassin)> That's the one, where's it at?
(peter)> Continental Olympic Park drive.
(Emerald Assassin)> How far?
(Peter)> Seventeen blocks, east.
Panel Five: Emerald Assassin leaps over a dumpster.
Panel Six: EA dashes down the business district. Some passer bys drop everything that they are doing and watch the costumed man running down the block.
Panel Seven EA jumps over a dog that is peeing on a fire hydrant.
(Emerald Assassin)> We really have to invest in a batmobile or something.
(Peter)> Stop complaining. It's the running around the cities that keeps you in fighting shape.
(Emerald Assassin)> Yeah, perhaps my sidekick needs to put his computers on a treadmill. Then you might understand how hard all of this running is.
(Peter)> regardless, you're making good time. You're way ahead of the police on this. Apparently you're the only one who cares to stop a prowler in this city. In fact, there hasn't been on response to it at all.
(Emerald Assassin)>Maybe there's something bigger going on. And you missed it?
(Peter)> No, it's not possible, I have five different scanners on different IPS and servers.
(Emerald Assassin)> Well, then it's a good thing that I am here to stop this guy. Was there any descriptions of what the prowler looks like?
(Peter)> Nothing. The code was released, and nothing else. Maybe that's why no one has responded?
(Emerald Assassin) Your guess is as good as mine.
Panel eight: Emerald Assassin steps down the boulevard that he was seeking. There are no lights of any kind. Dwellings, businesses, street lamps have all gone dark.
(Emerald Assassin)> Oh, wow...I am having trouble seeing dude. It's completely dark down here.
(Peter)> What, like a power outage?
(Emerald Assassin)> Exactly.
Panel nine: Emerald Assassin is now wielding his duel battle staff.
Panel ten: Peter is typing away quickly at his computers.
(Peter)> Well, I am not finding any reports of a power outage. I mean absolutely nothing. No phone calls of complaints, nothing from any of the power companies. No dispatches have been ordered.
(Emerald Assassin)> It's pitch black.
(Peter)> Funnily enough we never prepared ourselves for pitch black scenarios. Live and learn I guess. We will have to look into night vision lenses.
(Emerald Assassin)> Like ten minutes ago.
(Peter)> Well, you keep winning matches and we may have the money to actually make gadgets and stuff.
(Emerald Assassin)> Well...Have you heard anything else on the scanner yet?
Panel eleven: Peter is tapping at the blue tooth device.
{Peter: Oh man...we lost connection}
(Peter)> Danny can you hear me? Danny?
panel twelve: Danny has dropped his guard as he is also messing with his communication device.
(Emerald Assassin)> Can you hear me? Hello?
Panel thirteen: A specter appears behind Emerald assassin.
Panel fourteen: It wraps around Danny and they both disappear in the darkness.
Panel fifteen: Peter is running down the hotel lobby.
{Peter: I am coming dude, just hold on}
Panel sixteen: Danny is sitting on a concrete floor, a spotlight shining on is burning his eyes. He is unbound and unharmed.
(Emerald Assassin)> I was wondering when I would hear from you again Spectre.
(Voice)> And you're so sure that you know whom you're speaking to?
(Emerald Assassin)> I'm unharmed, and unbound. You're clearly not out to harm me. You lured me out here with a false call on the scanner. You know my routine. I have been trying to reach out to you for answers Spectre. I have earned them. I brought the Red Scorpion to an end.
Panel seventeen: The Spectre steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight. Wearing his trench coat and fedora. The shadow under the brim keeping his identity safe.
(Spectre)> I told you that I would check in from time to time. And that when you needed information I would give it. I am not Batman. Putting out signals will only chase me away. Our number one concern is to remain hidden.
(Emerald Assassin)> Fair enough.
Panel eighteen: Danny stands up and faces the Spectre. He appears small and scrawny in his 16 year old form next to the aged crime fighter.
(Emerald Assassin)> So why have you brought me here.
(Spectre)> The Red Scorpion.
(Emerald Assassin)> What about him? I defeated him. He has gone into hiding.
(Spectre)> Well you're right about one thing. He has gone into hiding. We are of the opinion that he is preparing for another assault. He is hiding behind a fake injury, and in the mean time is preparing a weapon or device of some kind that will cause mass destruction. We also have a few leads as to who the man under the mask may be.
(Emerald Assassin)> Who do you think ins under the mask?
(Spectre)> I am not even going to get into it. I cannot give you any information that may be false. In case you and your pal decide to run around chasing the leads, and end up exposing yourself. Just know that we have a very strong reason to believe that he is a member of the APW roster, without the mask that is. And has been for a while, before you ever dawned a mask. Which is why it is important that you continue to wrestle. You must maintain your false identity. How are things coming along?
(Emerald Assassin)> I have a feeling that you already know everything.
(Spectre)> That's correct. Your draft to a main show is a good thing. Even more so you have championship tomorrow. A submission match.
(Emerald Assassin)> Yeppers.
(Spectre)> How have you prepared for it?
(emerald Assassin)> What do you mean? I have been doing runs every night.
(Spectre)> Crime fighting and wrestling are two different things. You mean to tell me that you haven't been working on any submissions? Execution and defense?
(Emerald Assassin)> No...I just thought.
(Spectre)> You're lucky I decided to check in. One night of training will likely not be enough, but we will try our damnedest.
(Emerald Assassin)> So you mean to tell me that, you're going to train me?
(Spectre) Don't sound so thrilled. I assure you, it won't be any fun.
Splash Panel: The Spectre has reached out and Emerald Assassin is tucked into a rear naked choke...
{I have often wondered what my life would be like had Stacy's mother not been murdered. That was a major event in other peoples lives, and a minor blimp in that of my own. Stacy and her father were instantly changed forever. But so was I. I was driven by a force I still don't understand to solve the crime. And eventually I did. Sure, Peter would tell me that I am just a comic nerd who went a little crazy after the beating the murderer gave me. It's more than that.
I have mentioned in the past that it could perhaps have been fate. But why would my destiny begin to unfold with the death of another persons mother? If I never dawned a mask and fought crime, and may people died. Would it have been worth it for that one woman's life? If I could bring back Stacy's mother at the expense of innocent lives would I do it?
This is a deeply philosophical question that is churning my soul, and it is the result of a minor event in my life that lead to greater circumstances.
Tomorrow night I make my Asylum debut in a triple threat match. For the Tap Out championship. I have been focusing on this match the best I could, but it wasn't until I heard the words of the champion himself. When he spoke about me he was certainly genuine. He gave me credit where it was deserved, but questioned if I even deserved to be in the match.
He pointed out that I had surely gained momentum on Meltdown, but had not had a big win over any established stars such as himself. That I had plenty of minor wins, but nothing major to make note of.
This of course has lead to the philosophical question I posed earlier. This is a question that I wish I could pose to him. Though it would of course destroy my cover.
Surely these minor events mean something? My minor winnings on Meltdown have lead to this major match on Asylum. So surely they do count for something more than he has given credit? Surely every minor event leads to something greater.
And it has, in every way imaginable the minor events that lead to the creation of the Emerald Assassin, and what the Assassin has done since have had a major affect on my life. and many others.
Though they have lead me to this match it is up to me make something of it. And that is something I intend to do. The world needs a hero. Not just a crime fighter to keep them safe. I already give them that. But the people need a role model. Someone to look up to. Someone who the kids will adore for the right reasons and can keep them on a straight path.
With success as a wrestler, with a title around my waist I can be the hero that they can see, even when I am the hero that they can't be allowed to see.
So Logan posed the question, and tomorrow we will find the answer. That yes the minor is just as important as the major. That everything that I have done prior to this moment will have lead me to winning that championship. And each and everything that I do as champion will have a major affect no the lives of the fans watching who desperately need a hero.
Because I am the Emerald Assassin, and it's what I do and Neither Logan nor Williams know the true caliber of the manthat they are stepping into the ring with.}
