Biloxi, Mississippi
Afternoon…
It’s the afternoon before the final APW Monday Meltdown show and Michael Jennings is out sitting outside at a Starbucks having some coffee with his cousin Summer who lives in Biloxi. The two have been chatting and catching up. Her brother Dean was supposed to join them but he’s out of town wrestling so it’s just the two of them. The conversation has gone from talking about family to talking about rumors that Michael is leaving APW as the camera starts rolling.
Jennings: Well it looks like I’m staying in APW.
This comment causes Summer to raise an eyebrow.
Summer: What? I thought you were leaving.
Michael nods his head.
Jennings: Yeah I was but some people talked me into staying. That’s what went down.
She seems intrigued by this.
Summer: Hmmmm…interesting. So are you still seeing Paxar?
Jennings: Yeah, I am. We’ve been dating almost two months now. She’s the best thing that’s happened to me. Been spending a lot of time with her and her best friend Reya.
Summer: Don’t be getting yourself into a love triangle, Michael.
Jennings: I won’t. Reya is religious so I don’t see her making any moves on her best friend’s man. Her last name isn’t Jewel ya know.
Summer: True. Anyway what happened to that Jewel bitch?
Jennings: She’s competing in some other promotion and still is Tweeting smiley faces all day long.
Summer: So the usual?
He nods his head before responding.
Jennings: Yeah, the usual.
Summer: I do like your tag team with Stefan Raab. Vox Populi will be a force in APW judging by your styles and how they mesh together.
Jennings: I agree. It’s going to be a good team up.
Summer: You still arguing with Evan Envi?
Jennings: Fuck that douchebag. He’s one to call people pretentious douchebags when he shits on this company every week that he is not currently under contract and carrying around a belt that he should vacate like other champions have done in the past here in APW. He has no value to this company and has done more to damage it than any one person has in the history of APW, bottom line.
Summer: Damn you really don’t like him, do you?
Michael nods his head.
Jennings: Hell no. The guy is scum.
Summer: Fair enough. I look forward to the show tonight.
He smiles at her, nodding his head acknowledging that he agrees with what she said.
Jennings: Yeah it should be good. The last Meltdown show. After that I’m flying back to Rome to spend time with Paxar and Reya before flying back to the states for Thursday’s Overdrive show.
Summer: Sounds like a fun week to me.
Jennings: It will be a great week. Show’s going to be happening soon so we’d best head to the arena so we can get your backstage pass and so I can get ready for my match against Johnny Rebel.
Summer: Alright let’s go.
The two grab their coffee cups and get up to walk over to Jennings’ rental car as the scene fades to black.

Night…
It’s night time on the banks of the Mississippi River. Meltdown has been over for a few hours and Michael Jennings defeated Johnny Rebel on the show. However he has more pressing matters to attend to. Not his Extreme Tournament match, not the Fall Charity Bash, or his upcoming PW showdown against Rebel Child. His focus is on his tag team match against Biggs and the returning Nick Watson. He’s already focusing on that match even though it’s only been an hour or two since he beat Rebel. Michael walks out of the shadows with his manager Robert Hamilton and Hamilton’s heavy Edwin Hughes who is holding an electric lantern to light the scene as Michael begins to address the audience with his monologue.
Jennings: This week I am in a tag team contest teaming up with Victor Hades against Biggs and Nick Watson.
A smile creeps across his face as he continues.
Jennings: Now we all know what’s going to happen. I’m going to go into this as the villain because I beat up on Biggs last week and I’ve been calling people out left and right here lately. I can understand that. However the things I’m saying are all true. It’s a fact and the bottom line is some people think I’m lying about what I’m saying. Some people think that it’s all bullshit and that I’m just throwing out random bullshit or that I’m lying. Look into these eyes.
He stops for a moment to point to his eyes briefly before he continues.
Jennings: I’m NOT lying. Everything I said was the truth.
He brings his hand back down as he continues.
Jennings: Now there’s some people here in APW who are so delusional and out of touch with reality that they think I’m just making shit up. Well these people need a reality check. These people need to realize that I’m an honest man, a man who tells the truth. I not a liar like some people around here. Like some people who are secretly transsexuals or are hiding their birth certificates from the authorities in charge. People who are hiding things from the general population around here so to speak. If these people think I’m a liar then they need to look in the mirror so that they can see what a real liar really looks like. But then again I’m not telling them anything that they don’t know already.
Okay I’m being serious here. APW is in a state of upheaval at the moment. There’s people around here who are abusing their power. People who are acting like high school cliques walking around here backstage like they own the place. People who are getting the shortcuts while the rest of us are stuck to fend for ourselves. The backstage area is not fun either. To give you an example of what I’m talking about let me put it this way. If you put ten of us in a room within twenty minutes we’d all be plotting ways to kill each other. That’s how bad it is. It’s turning into the Russian Roulette scene from movie The Deer Hunter at every show and this shit needs to end now. So I’M ending it. The locker room is starting to form a rebellion which is what I am taking leadership of. If this was 1789 I’d be leading the revolutionaries storming the Bastille if you know what I mean. If I lived back then in a past life I probably would be a revolutionary. That’s just my mindset. I’m a rebel. I’m a rare breed in this day and age which makes me stand out a bit. I’m The Last of Us to be honest about it. I am the last of a dying breed in this industry. That is why I have to go out and work harder than anyone else in order to survive around here because I’m speaking my mind about things. I’m not a sheep so that makes me a HUGE target around here. I have to take precautions in order to keep myself from being jumped week in and week out.
That’s a thing that’s definitely needing to be addressed since I know there’s people who are pissed at me yet all I did was speak up when nobody else would. I am nothing more than the messenger, plain and simple. Don’t shoot the messenger. I just have the balls to say what no one else has the balls to say and I’ll say it to your faces. I think everybody knows how I feel. This place has been falling apart for MONTHS since before I got here but things are changing. The rebellion that’s been quietly stirring underneath it all finally has a voice. I’m the perfect guy for that since I always run my mouth and tell it like it is. With the Havok and Titan incidents here lately someone needs to step up to the plate and be the locker room leader. That’s what I plan on doing. I’m not the perfect guy for the job but I’m the only one stepping up to the plate right now. I’m not the locker room leader it needs, I’m the locker room leader this place DESERVES. If there’s any bullshit going on I’ll call it out and nip it in the butt right away. But then again you all know that already.
There’s been a lot of change here in APW here lately and the first change was the return of Nick Watson. Nick Watson is a man who came back and went right after Victor Hades which is a ballsy move. Good job, kid. Too bad nobody knows who the hell you are and why you came back. Yet you come back and are heavily promoted which is why you are a target for me. I’ve been here for months and you’re already more heavily promoted than I’ve been since I’ve been here which basically is my whole point about APW. There’s certain wrestlers who are the darlings and favorites of management who get all the breaks. Anybody who speaks out is targeted so that is going to not get any breaks. Just ask The Black Hand about that. But then again that’s something that is well known around here. But you’re just a puppet in a big sick play. What’s going on is bigger than you, it’s bigger than me, in fact it’s as big as all of APW.
This is what is going to happen, Watson. You’re definitely focused on Hades yet the person who you should be really worried about in this match is ME. I’m not only a verbal destroyer but a person who goes out to the ring to hurt people. I’m not out here to be a sports entertainer or dance around. I’m a wrestler, a second generation one at that. I have respect for this business and seeing this place turn unto the Sixth Level of Dante’s Hell really pisses me off. When my asshole of a father was wrestling it was nothing like this. Even when I was back here in 2011 it was nothing like this. Back then we focused on WRESTLING, not this politics and clique type behavior that’s going on now. That’s what’s creating an atmosphere of hatred around here. Watson, I’m willing to give you a break because you’re new but I don’t think you realize what you’re getting into when you step into the ring with me.
You were trained by Pence Weatherlight who was one of the best when I was here in 2011. But APW is a completely different animal now. Now it’s nothing but a nightmare zone. If Pence gave you any information about what it was like then you can throw all of that out the window. We have nothing but egomaniacs walking around here like their shit don’t stink and the guys like me who could give a crap less about titles or wins are left shaking our heads at how fucking stupid they are. One thing we do have in common is that we were treated like garbage when we were growing up so we’re kindred spirits in that regard. Your Muay Thai background makes you a very dangerous man which I can respect. However you did grow arrogant and cocky which should make you fit in our locker room very well considering there’s a lot of people who have that kind of attitude here in APW. Your arrogance is your CLEAR weakness. Your respect for the athletes in this business is the one redeeming quality that you have which is why I’m letting your arrogant douche demeanor slide. That is something that I approve. But let me make this VERY clear. I DO NOT like nor get along with egomaniacs. I do also do not like liars and control freaks. You have shown that you are an arrogant egomaniac in your brief appearances on APW you talked about climbing your Mount Everest so to speak.
He stops to briefly point to himself.
Jennings: I am your Mount Everest, not A.C. Smith or anybody else. You also said you hired the best trainers, manager, and personal coach you could find. However when push came to shove the last time you were here you ran off screaming like a little girl who saw a monster in her closet.
He points to himself again before continuing.
Jennings: I am the monster you should be worried about. You talked about how you’d change. Now is your chance to prove it, son. I am a different breed of animal than everyone else in this company. I’m not in this business for wins, titles, money, fame, or material gain. I’m not here to entertain. I’m here to go out to that ring every week and hurt people. That’s what I do. I pick a target and I do not stop until they are destroyed. It’s that simple, Nick. Think of me like The Terminator. I will not stop until my mission of destruction is completed. I will attack you verbally, psychologically, and physically. And I’ll enjoy every minute of it. I go out to that ring to torture people. Some people say I have the mindset of a serial killer. And to be quite frank about it they’d be right. I am very much like a serial killer once I get to the shows and head out to that ring. I savor every minute of inflicting pain on my opposition and you will be no different. I’m the apex predator around here and you’re just another gazelle who’s standing around the watering hole getting a drink that’s about to be attacked and eaten for lunch. That’s all you are to me, Nick. Just another victim just like Biggs was last week and just like you and him will be this week.
Now I don’t have a good track record in tag team matches. In fact this is one of the only three or four tag matches I’ve ever been in but the last time I was in one my partner walked out on me. The time after that my ex-girlfriend Catherine Jewel went AWOL and I was stuck picking up the pieces after all the bullshit went down as it relates to her. So my tag team record since coming back to APW is horrible. In fact one of those matches was changed from a tag match to a singles match. But then again there’s been a lot of corruption around here so that may have factored in to some of that. But once again I’m not telling you anything you didn’t know already. Nick, I look forward to WRESTLING you in the ring. If you’re as good as you’re boasting you are it will be an instant classic. If not I’ll send your ass to the hospital, plain and simple.
However Nick Watson isn’t my target in this match. He is merely an obstacle put in place to keep me from attaining my goal of kicking Bigg’s ass all over the ring again just like I did last week. Of course you’ll come back at me with putting my feet on the ropes to get it done. Well upon hearing that I would respond by saying that my motto is win if you can, lose if you must, but ALWAYS cheat. I would follow that up by retorting that it’s not cheating unless you get caught and I didn’t get caught so by the technical definition I wasn’t cheating. In fact I’ll go as far as to say that I DON’T need to cheat to beat you in the ring, Biggs. I’m not like some people around here who cheat every week, get cheered by the fans, and get away with it because they are marketable or are in good with the powers that be. That’s not me and that’s not how I operate. I just go out to that ring and do whatever it takes to get the job done which is EXACTLY what I did. You may not like how I did it but I did what I said I was going to do. I surprised everyone and beat you in the ring just like I said I would.
But in my opinion that win means NOTHING. It was just a match on a weekly televised program that’s going to be forgotten about in a week. That’s just the natural order of things happening around here. The illogical is the logical here in APW. Yeah let’s put a pay-per-view main event caliber match on a weekly television program instead of building it up over time. And ya’ll wonder why we’re losing sponsorships and talent. It’s illogical shit like this that’s the root cause of it all. Yeah let’s put two of the top talents in this company, two of the two wrestlers in the world as a matter of fact, on free weekly programming with no build up and take me out of the Overdrive Title picture in doing so. I can BEAT Envi and everybody knows it yet it’s not going to happen because he’s somehow manipulated management into letting him walk out with the title belt which is bullshit since every champion who’s left before that was made to Vacate their championships instead of keeping them even if they never lost them. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about just do some research on the Tap Out Championship history and you’ll see how a champion leaves a company. They should leave it with dignity and respect, not spitting on it and inflating their own already inflated massive egos. But, as usual, I’m not telling you all anything you didn’t know already. Speaking of champions Biggs is one of the greatest in APW history and I respect him for that. But I’m not going to come out here and kiss your ass. Instead I’m going to go out to that ring and kick your ass all over the arena just like I did last week. It’s that simple, Biggs.
I’m a simple man of simple taste when it comes to wrestling. When I come out to the ring, I bring one thing with me…PAIN. I don’t play well with others. In fact I’ll go as far as to say that I’m likely the most hated man in this company not named Stefan Raab and I’ll tell you why. As I mentioned earlier I’m not out here to win matches or get titles because I’m not some egomaniacal shithead who only cares about making their ego even larger. The fact I don’t care about winning and losing tells a lot. It’s the people around here that do that really get on my fucking nerves. People like you, Biggs. A man who is stuck living in the past despite the fact that he is nothing more than a shell of his former self. A man who is a living legend here in APW who represents what this company SHOULD be about. Hard work and dedication to the craft not winning matches, winning titles, and sure as hell not getting your face all over the shows in order to gain more air time in order to increase exposure. That’s not the APW I remember back in 2011. The message has been lost but I’m here to bring it back, Biggs. And as much as we don’t get along I think we can bring that message back to the people.
Biggs against Jennings is what the old APW was all about. Hard hitting athletic action without the posing, without the attention seeking behavior, and without the overly dramatic nonsense that’s been ruining the shows for months on end. Parkour anyone? What needs to happen is a new era where it’s back like it was when APW rose to the top of the wrestling world. We need to go back to the old days, the all or nothing days. The days when hard hitting action filled the shows and wrestlers competed to put on the most hard hitting matches ever seen on wrestling programming. Those days are back and blood is going to be spilled by the gallons starting with you Biggs. You’re nothing more than the wrong guy in the wrong place at the wrong time and you can thank Alexander Duvall for that. He was the architect of you being put into matches against the most dangerous wrestler on the roster two weeks in a row. It’s going to be his fault when you spend a few weeks in the hospital so you might as well send him the bill when you get out since he caused that to happen to you.
On Overdrive I am going to hurt you, Biggs. I am going to send a message by kicking you and Nick’s asses all over the ring. Hades is going to hold up his end of the team. I can tell this guy is a bad ass who isn’t going to walk out on me like The Guv’Nor did on Meltdown a few months back. Hades is a no nonsense type of personality just like I am which is why this team is going to dominate. We both aren’t going out to that ring to fuck around. We’re going out there to kick asses and taking names. That’s what is going to happen. I am really looking forward to this match so that I can showcase my wrestling skills against wrestlers, NOT sports entertainers. This is just the start of my path of destruction all the way to Shockwave where I plan on making a statement. And this time it won’t be against Envi for his title like at Test for the Best. I don’t know who I’ll be facing but I will say this much. Whomever it is will leave the ring spitting up blood like Envi did after our match, that much is guaranteed. At Overdrive it will be a war and it’s a war my team will win. I’ll see you all in the ring. Au revoir.
He sarcastically waves at the camera before walking off screen with Hamilton and Hughes as the scene fades out.
