::Sweat drips from the forehead of Amy Zing, but her breathing is steady, almost rhythmic, despite the fact she was clearly doing some sort of a workout. She is dressed in a tank top and sports bra underneath, as well as a pair of shorts and Nike Air sneakers. Her hair is tied in a ponytail. In her hand is her jian, the Chinese sword known as “the Gentleman of Weapons” due to the elegance and precision, which she been seen in the past using as part of a work out or, in very rare and extreme cases, for a declaration of a vendetta. In this case, the weapon appears to have been of a work out regiment commonly associated with the ancient art of Thai Chi as opposed to her declaration of revenge on a person.::
::She is on the roof of her apartment building. From the suns position, it is past noon, but it is hard to tell how long she has been up here with the sword. There is a patio set and garden on the roof. Under the table’s umbrella sit two bottles of water next to the scabbard.::
::The forged metal of the blade makes a scrapping sounds as she lifts it off the roof and gets to her feet. She walks over to the table, pulling the elastic out of her hair and shaking her head to let her hair out a bit.::
“Some people run to relax or think. Others walk or take a bike ride or work out. Me? I walk up to my building’s roof with a sword and practice with it. Really don’t know why, but it gives me focus and allows me to clear my head. I am the type of person that needs to keep focus and concentration, especially considering I do tend to ramble at times.”
::She looks at the sword in her hand. The midday sun shines on the blade of the sword. A gentle breeze moves over the roof.::
“It might have something to do with it being a deadly weapon, so I really do have to be focused. If not, I may injure myself or cut something off and that would be bad. I really have no desire to test how good my health insurance is.”
::Shrugging, Amy walks to the table and picks up the scabbard. She sheaths the blade and drops into one of the chairs at the table.::
“Whatever the reason, it gives me a clarity that I need to help me think.”
::Laying the sword on the table, she reaches over and grabs a water bottle. Opening it, she leans her head back as she drinks from the bottle and then closes her eyes as she proceeds to pour most of the rest of the water in the bottle over her face and lowers the bottle. She sighs in relief as the water drips from her face and from her hair. She opens her eyes and looks up at the sky.::
“And this is a week I need to clear my head and think considering all that is going on around Thursday Night Overdrive.”
::She leans her head forward a little and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly. She does this every time she gets off on a ramble. It is a tool to help her focus and collect her thoughts.::
“The biggest thing going through my mind is all the stuff with Level One and Michael Jennings. I mean obviously, I knew me calling out the World Heavyweight Champion would probably get some backlash. I said I was hardly the best choice for a challenger considering my win/loss record and I have been rather of the opinion in it may just be better to unify the World Heavyweight Champion and the Undisputed Championship, which hardly helps my case. I still say it should have happened at Test for the Best as it was champion versus champion anyway. However, I did not expect that when I made the challenge, Michael Jennings would jump down my throat or act like a child not getting enough attention.”
“But I suppose I should not be surprised. I thought I knew the type of person Jennings was, but I guess I was wrong. Well, clearly I was wrong.”
“I know everyone wants to be champion, and that’s fine. I can wait for a shot. Truth be told, I do not care who beats him for the title, I just want to see Level One lose the World Championship. There are a few people I would rather not see win it, but that is neither here nor there. Just as long as he loses the title, I will be happy. And that is because Level One has failed to prove he deserves the title.”
::Amy lifts the water bottle in her hand and looks at it. There is a little bit left inside. She lifts the bottle and shoots the rest down in one gulp. She then lowers her eyes to look at the bottle in her hand, twisting it in her fingers.::
“I also find myself conflicted about this week, and that's given me something to think about. The reason I am conflicted because while I may not respect Level One as a wrestler, a person or a champion, I do have respect for Evan Envi, the current Overdrive Champion.”
::“The Hong Kong Sensation” laughs a bit and shakes her head. She brushes a few loose strands of hair from her face.::
“It is kind of funny to me. I find Evan Envi confident to the point of arrogance. Actually, he is arrogant to a flaw. I think he is kind of a jerk who keeps running his mouth. And the anthropomorphizing of the APW Overdrive Championship is a little disturbing. He is obsessed with that title.”
“However, and this is the amusing part to me, despite whatever personal feelings I may have towards Evan as a person, I respect him as an athlete. I did not have to step into the ring with Evan Envi to know how good he is. I have known how good he is for years, ever since we were in American Championship Wrestling together.”
“Now granted, he made his return there towards the tail end, after I had been there for awhile, and he really didn’t get a chance to accomplish much during that brief time, but what I saw was impressive.”
“Evan, we have met only once in the ring. We went to that ring, and while it may not have been a long match, it was a pretty good one. You may be arrogant, you may run your mouth, but you are very good at what you do. I really do think APW is losing a great talent with your leaving.”
“I know you will show up at Thursday Night Overdrive to defend the Overdrive Championship against the six of us because in all the time I have watched you, I have never seen you back down from a fight or run from a challenge. It may be stupid, the odds may be against you, but you will still go for it. I admire that.”
“But Evan, and I cannot believe I am saying this, I do have to agree with Duvall that you should not be allowed to leave with the Overdrive Championship. I may respect you, but that will not prevent me from going to there and trying to take that title off you.”
::She shakes her head a bit.::
“I find it ironic that Alexander Duvall is throwing six people at Evan Envi to try and get the Overdrive Championship off of him because his contract expired, yet is not doing anything against Level One.”
::Amy pauses for a moment as if in thought.::
“I suppose there may be some truth to everyone’s saying that he only got the job as General Manager because of the Syndicate.”
::She shrugs and then reaches over to the second bottle of water and opens it. Amy takes a few drinks, gulping it down and then lowers the bottle, placing it on the table.::
“So this week, Evan Envi defends the Overdrive Championship against myself, Niobe Martin, the APW North American Champion Robina Hood and the relative newcomers of Joseph Johnson, Mad Mumf and Wyatt Crash. I have no idea how this match is going to work. Is it all of us in the ring at the same time? Because that might actually work to get a new champion crowned. Or will it be a six-pack challenge, though in this case, a seven-pack challenge as there as seven of us? Or maybe something like a gauntlet match? Or an elimiation thing?”
“I am only asking because no one actually explained what type of match this is supposed to be or anything like that. I just know it is Evan Envi against six other wrestlers, and a few are rather odd choices for this one.”
::Amy rolls her head on her shoulders and then rolls her shoulders. Her eyes move to the sheathed jian sitting on the table.::
“I understand how someone like Robina Hood gets herself in the match. While I never particularly cared for her alliance and allegiance to Sienna Harrison, I have to admit that Robina is one of the toughest, most vicious women I have ever been in the ring with. She is an intense competitor and I would be lying if I said I was not rooting for her to win the North American Championship at the final Monday Night Meltdown. Then again, I was also rooting for The Guv’Nor, because he was a great North American Champion. So I was sort of mixed through the whole match, but I feel Robina deserved it and deserves to remain the North American Champion.”
“I have to admit I was thrilled to see that she was drafted to Thursday Night Overdrive because we are tied at one a piece and I would love to get into the ring with her one more time in a one-on-one environment.”
::Amy shakes her head and smiles.::
“Robina, I know you do not like me. You made that clear in the past. However, I do respect you as a wrestler. I know that you and I will more than likely never be friends. But that does not mean that I do not like you. Personally I think it is just that we never had a chance to talk and you were allied with Sienna, who just hated me for some reason. It is safe to say that fact probably did not help anything at all.”
“All that in mind though, I mean it when I say you are a fantastic competitor and I do respect you. I truly do believe you earned the right to do what I was never allowed to do and be the North American Champion. That however does not mean I will not go out to that ring and try to beat you to win the Overdrive Championship.”
::Amy takes another drink from the water bottle in her hand and sets it back down on the table. She wipes the condensation on her hand across her forehead and then down over her face.::
“Luckily, my level of respect seems to diminish after I get past Robina Hood and Evan Envi. It sort of varies for different reasons. Really is difficult to be a fan and get into the ring with people you like watching to work. Mad Mumf and Joseph Johnson really have not gotten to that level as they are new and I have never been in the ring with them. Wyatt Crash is sort of there because he is very good in that ring. Niobe Martin does not have that. And it really comes down to whether or not I have been in the ring with them or that a match I have seen them in really caught my attention. However, there are guys who I just cannot stand and really do not respect them. Personally I believe respect is something earned, not just given to a person. I know Robina probably does not respect me. I am not sure about there others in this match. Pretty sure Envi does not either.”
::Amy stops talking as she realizes that she is rambling. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly. Opening her eyes, Amy steadies her breathing, trying to regain her focus and compose her thoughts. She tries not to look a bit irritated at herself for slipping and starting to ramble. She shakes her head at bit and refocuses.::
“I have been in the ring with Niobe Martin a few times since coming to Action Packed Wrestling. And yet, I don’t think we have ever wrestled one-on-one. We have wrestled in a six-person and a triple threat match two weeks ago, and now we can add whatever this is going to be to that list.”
“Niobe has a great reputation from her indy days. I know she has talent and ability. Yet, it seems like something is holding her back. I can respect the reputation, but it’s like I’m waiting for the bomb to go off. Although to be honest, I don’t really have a lot of respect for her since Iron Nightmare became a thing.”
“Niboe, I keep waiting to see you finally just burst and show me that reputation. I see it every now and then when you step into the ring. I do not really know if it was because the minute you walked in Sienna Harrison and Robina Hood just decided to go right after you or what? I mean, I have seen you get more aggressive since you began teaming with Tommy Knox, but I haven’t seen anything out of you.”
“Yeah, I am not exactly one to judge as I am a lot more popular with the fans than someone at my level should be. Or at least that’s what I keep hearing. Not sure what it means. But I really have nothing to show for it, and I’ll be the first person to point that out. You and I are kind of in the same boat in that this is a great chance for us to show we deserve to be here and in this match. Only one of us may actually get that chance.”
::Amy laughs a bit. It is more like a chuckle than full out laughter. She seems amused by something she thought of.::
“Wyatt Crash is someone I do not know, but I can respect his wrestling ability. Since the day this guy debuted, he has been out to make a name for himself in Action Packed Wrestling. He has definitely got the ability to make it here. I mean the guy has talent, which is obvious from every match he is in.”
“I really have no idea why the company hired a publicist to try and improve his image. Then again, I have no idea why they didn’t hire one for someone like me as I’m pretty sure the most exciting and interesting things I do are in the ring. Admittedly, Wyatt is a little weird, but still from what I have seen, a great wrestler.”
“This is the first time you are I will ever be in the ring against each other Crash. Truth be told, I am looking forward to it because it is an interesting clash of styles. You are a fantastic technical wrestler and you have been on a roll since you arrived in Action Packed Wrestling. The crowd seems to love you even if management thinks your image needs work. Like me, this is your time to shine, your time to walk to that ring and show the world something. Unfortunately, I want to do the exact same thing.”
::“The Hong Kong Sensation” picks up the bottle of water and drinks some of it down. She stands up and grabs the jian as she does so. Slowly, she moves away from the table and turns to face the city skyline behind her.::
“I look at Mad Mumf and Joseph Johnson and I see two young talents that want to prove themselves. They have both shown talent in that ring and are ready to take there chance at winning their first championship in APW.”
“Mad Mumf I really don’t know a lot about you. I think I saw you wrestle once. This is a huge opportunity for you though. You could walk in to Thursday Night Overdrive having only debuted a few weeks ago and take the Overdrive Championship.”
“The same applies to you Joseph Johnson. I may not be a fan of you walking around with some sort of quasi-religious thing, perching at people and judging them, but that’s just me. I know you can wrestle, but you may want to pray your best is good enough to win this week.”
::Amy laughs a bit. It is more a chuckle that a full out laugh. She seems amused by something.::
“You know what’s funny? For all my talk, I honestly have no idea why the bloody hell I am in this match. If you really think about it, neither I, Mumf or Johnson should be in this match. We have yet ot really prove ourselves. They at least have the excuse of being fairly new to Action Packed Wrestling. I have been here almost a year and really have not done a whole lot, and I have no excuses for it.”
“I have admitted that I have a lackluster win/loss record, and I have no one to really blame but myself. I could blame other people for my never having won a title, and while I suppose some valid argument could be made towards Sienna Harrison in my attempt to win the North American Championship, that is not entirely true. There was outside interference in only two of those matches, and even then, I still could have done more to win.”
“Honestly, someone like Buckson Gooch or Leon “the Virus” Roberts or even AC Smith, despite already being the Xtreme Champion, should be in this match, or at least someone who has a win over Evan Envi or came close to beating him. Honestly, I think I am the only person in this match who has already competed against him. If I recall correctly, and the fact that he still has the title should be a reminder, I lost that match.”
::With her free hand, Amy wraps her fingers around the hilt of the jian and draws it slowly. It starts to slide out of the scabbard. With a sudden motion, she slides it back into the scabbard and releases the hilt.::
“I know my friends, my family and all of my fans will tell me that I do deserve this opportunity. They will tell me I have every right to be in this match and I am going to win.”
::She closes her eyes and shakes her head. However, despite this, she is smiling. She opens her eyes and lifts her head, looking up a bit.::
“I am not so confident that I have earned this opportunity at a championship. I am confident in my ability and my skill within the ring, but I am not so confident that I will guarantee a victory at Overdrive. I cannot guarantee that I will become the new Overdrive Champion this Thursday. I cannot do any of those things because there are no guarantees in wrestling, just as there are no guarantees in life as well. Some times you lose and sometimes you win.”
::This time Amy draws the jian from its scabbard. She holds the scabbard in her other hand. The light gleams off the polished blade of the weapon in her hand. This is no prop. No is it a replica for a collector, like something off a website or a catalog. This is a real jian. She proved this twice, when facing Young Mannie, by cutting her own hand and drawing her own blood.::
“Maybe I don’t belong in this match. Maybe I do not stand a chance of winning. Maybe, just maybe, I am going to be the one pinned at the end. There are a lot of maybes, but only one absolute.”
::She lifts the sword in front of her face, with one of the blade’s double edges facing towards her face. She slides the scabbard under her arm and then presses her free hand against the flat of the sword’s blade.::
“That absolute is that, even if I do not belong in this match, even if my involvement is because the fans like me or my name was drawn fro ma hat or chosen at random or someone in the office made a call because they like me, I am not going to just lay down and die. No. I ma going to that ring and I am going to fight.”
“And those of you who know me know I am a fighter. I do not quit. I never give up and I never submit. I am not the biggest or the strongest or the toughest, but I do not care. I do not care because no matter the odds, or the match of the stipulation, I will fight and I will never give up.”
::Without moving her free hand, but somehow, without cutting it, and keeping her movements fluid, she turns the blade and looks at the flat. She removes her free hand, looking at her reflection in the double edge blade.::
“I have never held a championship before in my life. I have every intention of going to the ring on Thursday Night Overdrive and walking out with the Overdrive Championship around my waist. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
“Maybe I do not belong in this match, and maybe I am the only person who feels that way, although with this group, I doubt that, but I am going to fight like I deserve to be there. I am going to show everyone that I deserve this opportunity by walking into that ring, trying and kick the heads of six people off and win the APW Overdrive Championship, and showing the fans and every one of you why I am simply Amy Zing.”
::With one swift and fluid motion, Amy moves her hand off the blade as she twirls it and slides it back into the sheath. The scene slowly fades as Amy looks to the horizon, to Thursday Night Overdrive and the chance to become the new Overdrive Champion.::
“So I wish you all good luck and I will see you at Overdrive.”
::The scene fades to black as Amy turns around to walk back to the table. The wind blows through her long hair as she walks.::
::She is on the roof of her apartment building. From the suns position, it is past noon, but it is hard to tell how long she has been up here with the sword. There is a patio set and garden on the roof. Under the table’s umbrella sit two bottles of water next to the scabbard.::

::Shrugging, Amy walks to the table and picks up the scabbard. She sheaths the blade and drops into one of the chairs at the table.::
“Whatever the reason, it gives me a clarity that I need to help me think.”
::Laying the sword on the table, she reaches over and grabs a water bottle. Opening it, she leans her head back as she drinks from the bottle and then closes her eyes as she proceeds to pour most of the rest of the water in the bottle over her face and lowers the bottle.
