1:30pm
Niobe stood outside the large brick castle-like building, her head craning upwards to examine the outside in more detail. She squinted slightly, staring at the large glass box that sat just above the entrance, wondering silently what it was for. She chuckled, thinking that it looked like a giant crystal greenhouse sitting there, the sun's rays reflecting off of it. She dropped her head, turning it to the side and noticing people gathering around the cast of a 112 million year old dinosaur footprint. Kids were giggling and laughing, pointing at it in curiosity, parents taking pictures and the like. She wandered over, peering through the crowd at it, looking at it for a second before wandering off, eyeing the life-sized statues of dinosaurs and woolly mammoths. As a kid, this kind of thing interested her. Then again, a lot of things did. It still
interested her to go to things like this, even if it was an excuse to get the hell out of the hotel for a few hours and wander around in this place. It was a good idea she thought.
Having had enough of the eye candy, so to speak, outside, she strode over to the doors and pushed her way in, blinking at the rush of cool air that blew past her. At least it would be reasonably nice inside with all the people here. Crowds plus body heat plus enclosed space equaled a rather uncomfortable time for her. Pulling a brochure from the small stand at the entrance, she flipped it open and scanned over the information inside. She'd read somewhere on the net about a 4,550-litre aquarium in this place and now she wanted to find out for herself where it was, and see it too of course. It made her think of the fish she used to keep way back when. Tracing her finger along the map inside, she nodded her head and headed in the direction that it was telling her, dodging the kids and parents and other people heading her way. After maneuvering through said crowds, and the occasional fan or two, she had finally made it there.
Walking up close to it, she put her hands on the glass and simply watched the fish and other such aquatic life float on by, not paying any attention to the humans that were just gawking at them. It was soothing to just look, took her mind off of the more important things for the time being.
Then her silent peace was broken by the ringing of her cell phone. She blinked and shoved a hand in her pocket, pulling it out without looking at it and hitting the answer button, lifting it to her ear.
"Hello?"
"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
The voice on the other end, belonging to her friend Victoria, said to her, the tone in her voice slightly playful. Niobe sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she shifted on her feet, glancing at the tank again, watching the fish swim lazily by. There were very few people here in this area at the moment, meaning she had the space and the slight privacy to talk about whatever without getting any funny looks.
"You there?" Victoria asked again, and Niobe blinked, tearing her eyes away from the distracting fish.
"Oh yeah, sorry. And yes it took me a while to answer because I was rather enjoying looking at the fish."
"Fish? Where are you anyway?"
"At the Canadian Museum of Nature. I found this little place on the net last night and thought I would come and check it out. Sorry about spacing out like that, just got a lot on my mind at the moment."
"I get ya. So the fish are more important than the match, or talking with me huh?" She laughed a bit.
Gabriella groaned, rolling her eyes, thankful she couldn't see the expression on her face. "No they're not, and you know it. You can be a smart ass sometimes you
know?"
"I know, but you're still my friend anyway because of it."
"Yeah I am, this is true. You got me. As usual." She chuckled, smiling as she wrapped an arm around her midsection tightly, glancing around her surroundings a bit. "The match is important, very important and you know that Vicky. This is one of those big title match scramble deals. They throw a bunch of the top stars that deserve a shot at gold into the ring and let 'em have it out with one another. I just hope that damn Evan Envi doesn't chicken the hell out and not show up. He'll be up the creek without a paddle...and his title if he does."
"Ouch, sounds like bad news for Evan then. Better show up then if he values that precious title of his otherwise the rest of you guys get to fight it out to decide who gets it. Secretly I'm pulling for you, though. Don't tell anybody."
"Is that so? You taking bets at work like you usually do? I swear you guys goof off more than you actually work."
"We work at a bar, Niobe. We're allowed to goof off at least once in a while. It's all we have, that and the fact that we're surrounded by booze and customers all day. But trust me you are high in the bet pool to win."
"I feel so comforted by that fact, thank you. So who's got the next bet behind me. Gotta be someone."
"It's that Amy Zing followed by Wyatt Crash then that god awful Robina Hood and then Mad Mumford, and Joseph Johnson. Can't believe you have to get in the ring again with that bitch. The suits don't learn do they? Look what you've done to her in the past, I mean it's just asking for trouble you know?
Niobe shrugged, an indifferent look on her face.
"Yeah, I know this and so do the suits but apparently they've got gunk in their ears so now I gotta show them why they shouldn't put her in there with me. I'll rip her apart like I did in that last match we had. This time I'll make sure I bust up a limb for good and put her on the shelf. As for Amy, well, she's a good person and a hell of a talent. Much respect for her, but I'm not here for friends, I'm here for that title around Evan's narrow as hell waist and that's it. Just think if I win that belt, how much it will propel me into the spotlight and propel The Black Hand to the forefront of people's minds as well."
"Then you got the other guys in there that are fighting for the same thing. They'll see you and Robina and Amy as idle threats. They're going to try and eliminate you three as soon as possible."
"Idle threats my ass. We are some of the toughest women on the roster today, and if those guys in there think they can take us all lightly then they are going to find out that is the worst mistake they can make. I don't play games, I play for keeps. No one to help me out, not like I need it anyway. I do this on my own for myself and The Black Hand. The glory belongs to me that night."
"Right on. Ahh before I forget, how are things between you and Tommy?
"Good, good. He's already down in Nashville, wouldn't say why, just that it was club business and that was it."
"You're not worried about being kept in the dark like this? I mean, who knows what that cycle club does that you don't even know about, that Tommy hasn't let you in on. You gotta think about that. You gotta think about the possibility that you will hear about the truth eventually, and you might not like what you hear. I just want you to be careful."
"I know, and I will be. I just...miss him a lot right now. When we do get together, it seems like it ends up in the bedroom right away. Nothing wrong with that, I just...miss our conversations, the talking more than anything."
"Bedroom lovin' is fine but make sure you take time out for just you two otherwise things'll get stale fast. Take his ass out on the town or something, go eat, gamble or whatever. Have fun okay?"
"Ok, Dr. Phil, I will." Niobe giggled, shifting on her feet.
"I suppose though, I should let you go so you can get back to your fish and your man when you do see him. Call me when you get there okay?"
"I will, promise. Bye Vicky."
"Bye."
The phone connection went dead, and Niobe hung it up, staring at the phone as if she half expected her to call back right then just to laugh with her some more. When it didn't, she frowned and pushed the phone back into her pocket, continuing to explore the rest of the museum for most of the afternoon, taking pictures with her phone to post later online. She walked out of there just as the sun was dipping beneath the horizon, hopping in the little cab she had hailed and slammed the door shut, speeding off to the hotel where she would grab her bags and check out of the hotel, calling ahead to by the first flight out to Nashville that she could as she sped off in the cab again to the airport.
It was time to put someone's star out for good, somewhere in Hollywood, as the song goes. With the backing of The Black Hand and her boyfriend Tommy in her corner, nothing was going to go wrong tonight at all. Evan had better show up to get his ass kicked or risk loosing that title to one of them.
Niobe didn't care whether he did or not. All she wanted was to claim that gold for herself once and for all.
Gold would not be so elusive after this night...
======
It's nighttime, and the camera pans around a rather large expansive forest somewhere in the city. Footsteps are heard as the camera bobs forward a little before stopping, panning up the trunk of a rather large tree to find Niobe sitting within its branches, her hands clasped within her lap. She smiles at the camera and tilts her head to one side as if amused by the whole situation.
"Glad you could find your way through this dark forest, and that you didn't get lost. I thought I would be...unique and come out here to cut this little promo where I wouldn't be disturbed. With scramble match so close around the corner, things are getting a little hectic, a little crazy. Everyone is doing their best to tout themselves as the next champion, the next worthy soul to hold that belt.
I mean look at all the names that have held that so far, all of them. Evan being the current one. He seems to think waving that belt around and using it to further such selfish desires, tarnishing the good Overdrive brand is going to win him points with people.
The way I see it, all its done is piss off the suits, and those who are actually worth to hold that belt that he's got. So that's how this match gets set up.
Evan I hope to god you show up to this match otherwise that gold belt around your waist is going to go bye bye. Pressure is on you boy to be there at that match or risk everything. My hopes are you don't, because it would just save me the time of having to kick your ass for it. You are a rude man who loves to run his mouth but will
you have the balls to back up what you say? Will you be a man and show up?
Better make the right decision for it.
The wrong one will cost you dearly. Your own confidence, your arrogance about the situation will cost you everything.
I mean think about it, what a way to stick it to Sienna by kicking the shit out of her brother and winning that title huh? Oh man can you imagine the look on her face when she finds out that the thorn in her side from Meltdown has the belt? I am going to relish that moment, that look, truely.
But I'm not the only one in this match am I? No no, the suits have thrown a bunch of other so called worthy people into the mix to fight for the same exact thing. They're all names I've seen before, a couple I've been in the ring with a few times if you've been following my journey.
I'm talking about Amy Zing and Robina Hood. Two great...talents...in this company who have every right to be there but are going to fall so very short of the goal. Oh they'll try but they will fail.
I like Amy, I really do. I respect the ever loving hell out of the woman, which is something I don't say very often about a lot of people. We've not wrestled in a one on one situation before, just in team situations and such so this should be an interesting thing to add to the list of things we've done right?
My reputation follows me where ever I go. Those who know me from my indy days know exactly what happens when I get in that ring, what I can do in there. If you're waiting for the bomb to go off then get ready for the biggest explosion you've seen because it's gonna happen tonight when I grab that title. You want burst, you want an
explosion, you want to see what I'm really like then? You've got it Amy, just you watch. We'll get to prove to the world why we deserve to be here and why we got put in this match to begin with. You're gonna respect me a lot more after this.
Then there's that god awful bitch incarnate, the pet of Sienna, Robina Hood. I seriously think that the suits don't listen at all or watch what goes on. Did they see what happened when we last got in the ring together? I beat that woman senseless and left her crumbled through a table bloodied and bruised, all to prove a point and end the little war between us. Now here she is like a bad effing dream, one that I plan on getting rid of early on. She gets anywhere close to me, I will break her in two and put her away for a long long time. This is a promise. I don't care for her and she doesn't particularly like me either. The respect is there for her, and for her for me but that's where it ends. We don't like each other and we never will. I'll make sure she never gets near that belt because...pets don't deserve nice things. They deserve to be punished.
Lady Overdrive my ass. That sounds god awful.
Be jealous that I have someone like Tommy, be jealous as hell because of it. At least I'm getting some unlike you who probably hasn't gotten any since...forever. I don't really care. So keep your ugly little nose out of my relationship with Tommy thank you very much. He hasn't used me for anything like you seem to think.
His career is doing just fine and he doesn't need to step all over people to get somewhere. We failed at beating the NBK yes, but that was just a hiccup, a misstep. And yes you can take credit for my win over Jace all you want but you know as well as I do that I didn't need your help nor do I want it. Ever.
You seem to think that I'm blind to alleged idea that Tommy is only out for himself and to further his career, and I am the stepping stone. Everyone seems to think that, god it's annoying and so far from the truth. He doesn't need any damn help with his career, he's doing just fine and he's not playing me for a fool so shut your god damn trap before I shut it for you!
I'm so tired of people ragging on me for my relationship with him. Can't two people in the business who love it so much be happy? When I win that title, and I will Robina, I'm going to hit you with it over and over, then wrap it around my waist and go home to Long Beach. Not put it in my mouth like a dog and crawl back to Tommy with it.
This 'nobody' in your eyes is going to prove to you again why you shouldn't mess with a Nightmare, and I'm going to shut you up once and for all. It's like I said, I'm going to break something and put you on the shelf where you should of been all along.
Everyone in this match is great from Amy to Joseph to Mad Mumford to Wyatt to Robina you know? We've all got that something special in us that makes us unique, that gives us that drive to fight for the goal here tonight. That belt. I've been in title situations before like this and come up short, but that's not going to happen again. I plan on being the sole dominate force in that ring, and taking that belt for myself and The Black Hand, showing why a flop like Envi doesn't deserve to wear it at all.
Mumford, Joseph, and Wyatt are all young talents with a good amount of skill behind them. They've shown that they have talent in that ring but do they all have it in them to hang with the big boys and girls, and win a title? That remains to be seen. All I say to them is bring it on and come at me gentlemen.
People might fire back and say that I don't deserve it, that I can't win matches on my own without the help from my boyfriend Tommy or The Black Hand.
You know what I say to that? It's a load of crap, alright? I can win matches just fine all on my own, and I don't need the help of others to do it. If they choose to get involved, it's on their hands not mine but I'm fighting this match for me, by myself. They will be in the back where they belong, watching and waiting for victory from the Nightmare.
I won't be the angel from the sky. I will be the devil in disguise, the Nightmare in their eyes that surprises everyone by becoming the new champion that this company rightfully deserves."
