::The scene opens to a hotel room in City, State, where Thursday Night Overdrive is to take place this week. It is a simple room, but by no means does this mean that this is some cheap roadside motel or some sort of cheap hotel by the airport. It looks simple, without being cheap, or looking like an expensive hotel just trying for a simple room. It is simple and understated, without sacrificing the class or charm of the establishment. The walls are a nice eggshell white. There is a dresser and cabinet and an entertainment center. The room has a small, but nice table with two chairs. Two beds with nightstands rest against the back wall. There is a lovely view of the city from the window. Only one bed appears occupied as there is an open travel bag sitting on it. A gold wristwatch, a set of keys, a cellphone plugged into a charger and wallet sits on the nightstand. A pair of black denim jeans and a red blouse sits on the bed, folded next to the bag. The shower can be heard running from inside the bathroom in the room.::
::The shower stops. After a few minutes, the bathroom door opens up and out steps “The Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing wearing a white cotton bathrobe and drying her hair off and holding a bag of toiletries such as toothpaste and shampoo. She sighs as she notices the camera and shakes her head.::
“Really?”
::Setting the bag down and grabbing her clothes off the bed, she renters the bathroom and closes the door slightly. It is closed just enough not to reveal anything, but open enough for her to be heard.::
“I can’t help feel as if I am somehow being punished for last week. I know it is a strange thing to say, but as I look at what I have to do at Thursday Night Overdrive, that is how I feel. I sort of feel like this is a punishment of sorts.”
“Okay, so I wasn’t able to beat Evan Envi and win the Overdrive Championship, but I came close. Two-time interim Overdrive Champion is, sadly, the closest I have come to being a champion in my career. I choose to look at it as getting closer. At the very least, I believe I proved that while I may not have earned or deserved the opportunity I received, but I definitely proved I belonged there. Last week may not have been my night, and it was not the night of six other people, but sooner or later, my moment will come and I become a champion.”
“However, I do not think that this week, my luck will be any better. I really do not know why I am in this Strange Bedfellows Match or whose idea this thing was. Honestly, it feels like back at Survive and Conquer when I was in that rather odd six-person tag team match. Now I get to be in another one.”
::The bathroom door opens and the light goes out. Amy steps out wearing the jeans and blouse. She has done a bit of make-up, just touching up her eyes, her cheeks and lipstick. She is drying her hair off with a white towel in her right hand. In her left is the towel. She hangs the robe on the door.::
“The Survive and Conquer match seemed a bit more randomly thrown together though as that was me teaming with Robina Hood and Evan McDonald against the team of Niboe Martin, Cid Phoenix and Guy Person. I really have no idea how we won that match as neither Robina and I really cared for McDonald’s attitude, but it was before Robina and I really started having issues, like Sienna Harrison ordering her to try and take me out and us bludgeoning each other with ladders and various other items around the ring. But those are entirely separate issues.”
::She stops drying her hair and hangs the towel on the inside of the door. Running her fingers through her long dark hair, she shakes it out. Turning, Amy walks to her bag and starts to dig through it until she pulls out a hairbrush. She sits on the bed and starts to brush through her hair.::
“I really do not know how anyone came up with these teams. Granted, there could be worse or more random teams thrown together. Still, these are rather odd team ups. I am not sure if these were pulled out of a hat, or one of those bingo turner things, whatever they are called, or maybe just someone was playing the APW video game, selected six-person tag team match and then pressed random to get these teams and wondered how it would work out in real life. Not totally sure if Hollywood and Savage are in the game or downloadable content. I barely made the cut for the roster. But that is neither here or there. I really have no idea how this match came together.”
“Obviously I am still going out there for the match. Even if this is a six-person tag team match of randomly thrown together wrestlers, it is still going to be an interesting match. It may go like Survive and Conquer and I can pull off a victory, or it may end differently and I find myself on the losing team, like just becoming some sort of riot. So, yes, I find myself curious how this match will turn out.”
“I mean, Jace Savage and Brian Hollywood are both in New Gen Rising, but they are on different teams here, and I am teamed with Savage. Niobe and I do not get along well at all, but I have to team with her. This is a very strange team, but I suppose that’s the point of the match.”
“I suppose I should be concerned with Jace Savage and Brian Hollywood being in New Gen Rising, but being on opposite sides of the ring in this match, but I am not. For starters, I cannot see either throwing the match to the other.”
“But I think deep down, they are rather curious which one can be better just that one night. Maybe they want to see what would happen if they went at it. I think it safe to say that people in tag teams and stables or factions or whatever they are called kind of wonder how going against each other in the ring would turn out. I heave heard tag team partners make the best opponent because they know each other so well, and sometimes it can strengthen a team, or tear them apart.”
::She pauses for a moment in mid brushstroke, as if in thought.::
“Neither one of those outcomes seems like they would be all that favorable do they? Either the team gets stronger, which may be a bad thing considering that we seem to be getting a lot of stables forming these days, or it breaks apart. Neither sounds particularly good in a long run scenario.”
::She shrugs and goes back to brushing her hair. Amy leans her head to the side as she does so.::
“Now, to be fair, I do not know Jace Savage on any level, be it personally or professionally. I think we may have attended the same functions prior to a few APW pay-per-views, but I really don’t know as there were a lot of people there. I have never been in the ring with him, be it in a tag team situation, such as this, or as an opponent.”
“But, from what I have seen of Jace Savage is that he is, like so many of the talent here, young and hungry and ready to prove himself. Then again, who isn’t? I mean really, who among us isn’t trying to prove something every time we go out to the ring? I know I am. Pretty sure everyone in this match is. It does not give us an edge, but it is still something to use for motivation.”
“Either way, I have seen Jace Savage in that ring and I know he is a capable wrestler. He and I may never have really met or interacted, but that’s fine. We do not necessarily have to like each other or be the best of friends to win this match. It would probably be less of a hindrance, but it can’t really be helped. We both want to win and if we can work together, we may be able to pull that off.”
“Not really sure the relationship Niobe and I have will be a hindrance or not. Hopefully we can work together and win this match.”
::She stops brushing her hair and sets it on the nightstand.::
“As I said though, Niobe and I do not really get along well. I really have no idea why that is. Maybe it’s her. Then again, maybe it’s me. I really do not know. I mean, I tried being her friend before our first match, but that did not pan out. Still not as bad as the relationship I have with Robina Hood, and no where near as bad as what I had with Young Mannie. At least Niobe and I never tried to kill each other. We’ve wrestled a few times, but never actually gone out of our way to hurt the other.”
“Maybe we are sort of similar and that has caused us to not get along to well. We both came in with a lot of hype. She was an indy star. I had a brief run in a defunct company and was an indy star as well. And for some reason, Sienna Harrison hated both of us. She sort of sent Robina Hood after Niobe, while she was constantly tipping the odds in Young Mannie’s favor when I was trying to take him down. Granted, a common dislike of a person is hardly the basis for a friendship, but still.”
::She shrugs.::
“Maybe it is simply the way she was treated causing her to sort of lash out and align with Tommy Knox and Michael Jennings in Black Hand? I mean she was pretty much abused since day one by Sienna and Robina. Still, it did sort of suck to see Buckson Gooch and Tommy Knoxville split up as a tag team. Buckson is a friend and I enjoy watching him work. And I do hate seeing a tag team break up.”
“But, that is neither here nor there. I can’t blame her for what her boyfriend did, anymore than I can blame her for Michael Jennings going from reluctant rich kid to arrogant, spoiled jerk in just a few short weeks. I do not have to like her teammates, but that does not have to be a factor in this match.”
“Like I said, I do not have to be best friends with either of my partners, nor do I have to be particularly fond of them, or even like them. I just have to push everything aside and focus on getting a win. I can do that much. Hopefully, we can work together long enough to make the win happen.”
::Reaching to the nightstand, she grabs the watch and starts to slip it on around her wrist. She smiles in anticipation.::
“On the other side of the ring is, as previously mentioned, Brian Hollywood, Jace’s teammate in New Gen Rising. And he is teamed with Anthony Washington, a guy I have never faced before. Of course, I have never faced Hollywood either. But I have faced their tag team partner, Robina Hood several times and look forward to doing it again.”
“You and I have never wrestled before Brian Hollywood. Our paths for some reason or another have never crossed. I know that he is a good wrestler, but I know he is also arrogant. That is pretty much a given though just on entrance, mannerisms and style.”
“Brian Hollywood, you are flashy, but there is substance there. You are a very good wrestler. Like your associate, Jace Savage, you are also young, hungry and ready to prove yourself to the world. Like me, you have only really had glimpses of being able to do so. You and I both want to show what we can do. Only one of us is going to get the chance to do so this week. I am going to give it my all to make it me.”
“I do not mind if I am not the one to get the pin, just as long as I can help get my team that victory. I know it may sound weird or a lie, but I am not in this for the glory, or the fame or the fortune. Now, I will admit that the fame and fortune are nice, but that is not why I got into wrestling. I fell in love with this when I was younger and wanted to be a part of it. I never thought I would make it as far as I did and I am grateful for every day I get.”
“And I am going to show the fans at Overdrive how grateful I am for their support when I step into the ring in this Strange Bedfellows Match and try to kick your head off.”
“But myself, Niobe, Savage and Hollywood are not the only one trying to prove themselves, are they Anthony Washington?”
::Looking up at the window, she closes her eyes and shakes her head.::
“No, I really do not think so. You do have something to prove here as well.”
::Opening her eyes, she smiles a bit sheepishly.::
“Now, maybe I am not paying attention or I might have missed it, but it seems your stock has dropped a bit in recent months. I mean, you were not a part of Alexander Duvall’s attempt to get the Overdrive Championship off of Evan Envi and now, he’s picked Tommy Knox for that. You are not even in the running for a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship and Level One, and at this point, I think Duvall would give just about anyone that opportunity.”
“Of course, who am I to talk? When you look my win/loss record, it makes you wonder how I even get title shots. I almost assume it is my popularity or something. The only reason I even bothered to try and challenge Level One is because I just cannot stand him holding that title and doing what he has been doing. But that is neither here nor there at the moment.”
“You call yourself “the Future” Anthony, and yet, in recent weeks, you have sort of taken a backseat to the influx of former Meltdown stars that moved here after the finale. In all honesty, I really do not recall the last time I saw you in a match. I am not trying to be insulting, but I am really drawing a blank as to what your last match was, and I am that type of person who watches the entire show when I get home. When in an arena, for one reason or another, I can only catch bits and pieces, or maybe one or two whole matches. I watch the whole thing when I get home.”
::Amy catches herself starting to ramble off topic. It is a somehow an endearing quirk of hers, but also something she really wishes she could stop doing.::
“Sorry.”
::She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly to center herself and regain focus. She opens her eyes.::
“Where was I?”
::“The Hong Kong Sensation” snaps her fingers as she recalls her place.::
“Oh yes, yeah. Now I am not trying to be rude or anything. I am simply stating an observation. Like I said, you, as well as most of us here, have something to prove in that ring. We all do. I try to prove something every night I go into the ring. You are more than capable of proving you are indeed “the Future”. I know that. From the few times I have seen you, I know what you can do, I just do not recall the last time I saw it. But, I suppose it is safe to say I will get to see it first hand this week at Overdrive. Honestly, I am looking forward to it.”
::Amy smiles in anticipation and a mix of excitement.::
“There is another person I am looking forward to facing this week and that is our current reigning North American Champion, Robina Hood.”
::She pauses, looking as if she is in thought. She looks atthe cameraman.::
“Does that title even still count? Did it officially get moved over to Overdrive or what? Does anyone know?”
::The camera man shrugs. Amy gets up off the bed, walking to the window. She looks out at the view.::
“I really do not know what to say Robina. What do we have left to say to each other? You hate me. I am not entirely fond of you. I respect your ability in that ring. You do not respect me at all. I really do not like Sienna Harrison, and in fact, I would go as far as to say I really do hate that woman. You practically owe her everything as she took you under her wing and helped mold you into the wrestler you are now. I love my fans and appreciate their love and support despite the fact I really do not feel I have earned it or repaid it. You think I am self-righteous. I think you are kind of a psychopath, but you had a rough childhood and that is a contributing factor, so it is probably not my place to judge. You seem to resent the fans and that they like me. I pretty much think that covered nearly everything we have said to each other or could say about each other.”
“And yet Robina, despite that we have said everything we could say to each other, I still do look forward to facing you each time I get in the ring with you. Unlike with Young Mannie, our issues were never based on your need to try and get yourself to the top by just picking on someone. You did not just randomly attack me and then go hide behind Sienna Harrison and a bodyguard when it got too rough for you. No, you just went after me because your benefactor was in trouble. Even when you went after Niboe during your debut, you just went for it without Sienna or anyone to protect you. I have to admire that at the very least.”
“You may have had Sienna backing you, but she never really went out there to help you win or stacked the odds in your favor, like she did with Young Mannie. I may not like her or your alliance with her, but I have to admit, she did choose well when she selected you as her “favorite Megastar”.”
“I like wrestling you Robina, because you are an intense and fierce competitor. You go out there and give it everything you have, and you do not hold back anything in your strikes. Our ladder match and the no disqualification match that we had my final night as a member of the Monday Night Meltdown roster were classics. And at the moment, we are tied at one victory a piece. Honestly, I am sorely tempted to say if you are not doing anything at Shockwave, I would love to go for that third match to break the tie. It does not matter to me if the North American Championship is on the line or not, I just want the match.”
“But right now Robina, we have this match to get through. I would hazard to guess that only Niobe and the Guv’Nor know you as well as, if not better than, I know you and what you are capable of doing in that ring. But, likewise, only Aubrey J Parker and Young Mannie know me and what I can do in that ring as you know me. You know that I will go out there every time and I will fight until someone either knocks me out or manages to keep me down. You know I do not quit.”
::Amy turns away from the window and walks to the nightstand, grabbing the wallet and slipping it into her pocket. She unplugs the cellphone and slips it into her other pocket. Grabbing the keys, she heads for the door.::
“At Overdrive, it does not matter to me who is on my team and who I am facing, because I will go out to that ring and do what I try and do every single night I compete. I am going out there to try and kick someone’s head off. I am going out there why I am simply Amy Zing.”
::The camera follows after her, then moves passed her into the hallway. Amy looks at it as she closes the door behind her.::
“So, good luck and I will see you guys at Overdrive.”
::The scene fades out as Amy walks down the hall.::
::The shower stops. After a few minutes, the bathroom door opens up and out steps “The Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing wearing a white cotton bathrobe and drying her hair off and holding a bag of toiletries such as toothpaste and shampoo. She sighs as she notices the camera and shakes her head.::
