What goes in on the brain of a hysterical human being? What goes on in the mind of the woman who had fooled herself into believing a million different things, none of which are remotely true!
Scientist say that the mind is a beautiful thing, but how the hell do they know? The mind could be a center full of nightmares and insecurities that are just waiting to burst out, but we keep them buried inside so they simply eat away at us from beneath!
But what would happen if we could go inside and walk around, if we could live one day in the mind of somebody who’s grasp with reality has been severed to such a degree that even their best friends, even their significant others begin to be affected by it.
Would we find the answers we’ve been looking for?
Or would we find even more questions, even more fears?
Or would we unleash a terror that the world couldn’t handle?
The scene opens in black and white and we see Maggie Marvin standing in a doctors room next to her husband who is reclined back on a bed. He has a tube going into his arm and nodes taped to his neck The doctor behind him is prepping the machine that the wires attached to the nodes run into. Maggie looks down at Terry with concern.
“Are you sure about this. I mean, you have no idea if it’s even going to work, let alone what’s going to happen!”
Terry squeezes her hand and smiles.
“Don’t worry babe, it’ll be just fine. I promise. Dr. Nuremberg here is the finest in his field of Oneirology, the study of dreams, and Neural Networks, Cognitive Development and Content Analysis.”
The camera pans up and the Doctor in a lab coat facing the machine turns towards us slightly as it appears to be Terry in a white wig. He smiles brightly.
“It’s all very simple Mrs. Marvin. We’ll induce your husband’s dream state, and I’ll use my neural tuner here to synch up his brain waves with those of Aubrey J. Parker. With that, he’ll be able to literally get inside her head. It’ll be as if he’s a ghost in her thoughts. He’ll be able to move freely in the matrix that visualizes her thoughts.”
Maggie doesn’t look extremely comforted by this but she nods anyways. The Doctor turns back toward the machine as he barks out instructions.
“Now Terry, everyone’s mind manifests in it’s own way, so there’s no telling what you see there. However, our natural defenses is to hide who we really are, and Aubrey will be no different. So she’ll try to keep you from finding who she truly is. Once the obstacles pile up, you’ll know you’re on the right track.”
Terry nods and looks up at Maggie.
“I’m still scared baby. You know how Aubrey has been lately, there’s no telling what you could see up there.”
“Don’t worry babe, I’ll be fine.”
He gives her the reassuring smile that he knows will melt her heart, and as predicted it does. The doctor turns up the drip leading to Terry’s arm and his eyelids become more and more heavy. After time he drifts off to sleep, still holding Maggie’s hand. The doctor checks on his vitals and nods.
“He’s out… We can now turn on the machine and synch up their wavelengths.”
Maggie winces with concern again and the doctor turns to the machine and does so. He smiles reassuringly.
“And there we are, now we just have to wait!”
The scene transitions out, fading off on Terry laying there sound asleep. After a few seconds, we fade back in, still on Terry fast asleep but no longer laying on the bed hooked up to all the tubes and wires he was before. He wakes up in a dark room with almost zero light in it whatsoever. he moans as he puts his hand on his head.
“Worst hangover ever… but where the hell am I?”
Terry stands up, or so he thinks he does. He doesn’t feel any floor underneath him and when he moves it feels just like floating.
“I wish I had a flashlight.”
Terry smiles and puts his hand in his pocket. It collides with something hard and he pulls out a tiny flashlight. He raises an eyebrow in shock.
“Well that’s convenient.”
Terry turns the flashlight on and begins to make his way through the darkness. He realizes that before too long he’s not just floating into space, but he’s in the backstage area of some arena… He’s at a wrestling show, he assumes. He can even begin to hear the crowd boo loudly. But the black and white scenery is still fuzzy at best and seems to be constantly changing. He comes across a room. Standing in it is a man in a full suit of armor. When the man turns he sees the face of Talon Wilkenson… or at least Aubrey’s image of him in her mind. The knight in shining armor… of course.
“Talon? Where am I? How do I get to...”
Talon’s face burns with rage and fury as he looks right at Terry. He draws his sword which for some reason glows with bright light and actually sings out.
“DIE FOUL DEMON!”
“Talon! It’s me!”
Talon charges right at Marvin swinging the sword. Terry braces for the piercing blade to cut into his flesh…but nothing happens. When he opens his eyes, the image changes to Talon embracing a dark haired beauty. Though we can’t see her face, Terry just assumes it’s Aubrey. The scene begins to get extremely intimate so Terry reaches out and travels on.
“So clearly, I’m in Aubrey’s mind…It’s actually not as crazy as I thought it would be!”
He clearly spoke too soon as past him skips a train of identical looking young girls with black hair. They’re all laughing and giggling as they surround Terry.
“You’re gonna Lose, You’re gonna Lose!”
Young AJP’s Terry thought, as if she could get any more childish lately. He continues past them, though they circle around continuing to chant and annoying him every step of the way. Terry walks down a hall looking from room to room wondering if he’s on the right path. Suddenly he’s stopped by two black guys taking up the whole hall. The big one has a gold Grill in his mouth as he growls in a fashion I’m sure he believes is intimidating. The other one looks a lot like Carlton from the Fresh Prince. The big one begins speaking.
“YO YO YO DAWG! You ain’t goin’ any further aight?”
“Yeah Man. We’re the Dying Bread(yes that’s on purpose) and we’re better than everyone. If you try to cross us, we’ll simply make nonsensical arguments about you on Twitter that are both hypocritical and totally false.”
“Yeah Bitch, then I’ll do a whole bunch of drugs giving in to yet another stereotype cause that’s how I roll… HOLLLLAAAAA”
“And if you continue to argue with us, we’ll simply imply that you’re a racist and cry foul, that is until queen Aubrey kicks our ass YET again, then we’ll just make up excuses to wash that victory away.”
Terry looks at them, going from one to the other, then he bursts out in laughter. Being proud men, the manifestations of Jair and Anthony fizzled away at the mockery Terry was making at them. Terry continued to travel with the girls still chanting around him. He knew he was on the right path now as the obstacles were piling up.
As Terry continues down this path, he runs into a young woman who runs around wearing next to nothing who offered to blow Terry for 5 seconds of camera time. She kept screaming about how much she hated AJP and how she was clearly prettier than her. Terry could only assume this was Aubrey’s image of KJE.
He passed by a room where a mostly Naked Christian Kane was sitting in very awkward, sexual poses. A dark haired girl that Terry again couldn’t see the face of would often slap him, then hug him, then punch him, then kiss him. It was very confusing, though Terry wasn’t surprised by it. AJP’s relationship with Christian has always been… difficult.
He passed by a representation of Logan Alexander who was caught in a never ending trap of doing everything AJP wanted, and bending over and getting whipped. Terry sighed and shook his head.
He passed by a toothless fool who seemed to be covered in his own feces and obsessed all things “foul”.
After making his way through different representations of the people in Aubrey’s life, Terry was shocked that he never came upon himself… that’s usually how these things go. He comes to a fortified steel door that is covered in “Do Not Enter” tape and bolted with a thousand different locks. The child AJP’s all stop behind him.
“Don’t go in there”
They say in a creepy monotone voice. Terry was sure this was where he needed to go. But he had no clue how. He touched the door, and suddenly felt himself being sucked into it!
He found himself in a giant room that was completely empty except for one person sitting alone in a single wooden chair. She is tied there as Terry can see her ropes. She has long dark hair and Terry, somehow, knows that this is AJP.
“Aubrey, is that you?”
She nods and Terry feels some sort of relief. He walks up right behind her.
“Oh thank God. I’ve been looking all over for you. No wonder you’re so fucking crazy lately. You’ve got your true self tied up in the deepest reaches of your mind. Come on, let’s get you out of here.”
She shakes her head no and Terry seems a little frustrated. He approaches her and moves around till he can see her face.
“WHAT THE FUCK!”
Terry’s Jaw opens in utter shock as he has to avert his eyes. Looking right at him is a brutalized and bloody woman. Her face has seemingly been removed and all that’s there is DEEP scratch marks as if it was ripped off by fingernails. It’s a truly gruesome sight and Terry has to close his mouth to keep from vomiting at it.
“Who did this to you?”
A voice answers him, a voice that sounds like AJP but isn’t coming from the body. Instead it’s coming from all around him.
“Why I did of course. Everyone kept seeing me as whatever they wanted to. A slut. A liar. A betrayer. Disloyal. A bitch. They all had such strong and hateful opinions of me, that somewhere I lost my own identity. What you see before you is the result of that.”
“That’s horrible!”
“And you, You were the worst Terry. You saw me as nothing! You saw me as just another challenge, as just another beatable conquest on your way to glory. So, I lost my identity, my face, completely”
Terry stares at her for a second, then shakes his head.
“NO Aubrey. You did this to yourself. You had belittled yourself in your own mind so much you hadn’t the slightest idea who you were. And I didn’t see you? THAT’S BULLSHIT! I tried every step of the way to help you. I offered you a shoulder to cry on. IF I didn’t care, if I didn’t see you as anything special, then why the hell would I be here huh?”
There is silence for a second.
“YOU are the one who wants to be an outcast, the one who want’s to be hated. You can’t stand having friends. You can’t stand being liked. And YOU have to sabotage everything you come into contact with. That’s why you lashed out at me! That’s why you attacked me! And this, this sight of you...it just proves what I thought about you all along. You’re a lost little girl… and you haven’t the slightest clue who you are anymore. Don’t put this on me Aubrey…You’re insecure… you don’t believe in yourself… and you know you CAN’T beat me, deep down that’s what this is about. And you’re right! So save your bullshit excuses and just learn to accept the facts! Nobody turned on you Aubrey… you turned on yourself!”
With that Terry turns and walks away.
“NO! Don’t leave me alone! NO! Come back!”
Like that then scene fades out again and suddenly we’re back in the doctor's office and Terry’s eyes fly open!
“Detroit… one time called Motor City, one time the most buzzing big town in the Great Lakes region. Detroit was the home of famous inventors and revolutionaries. The automobile got it’s real birthplace right here when Henry Ford came up with the amazing invention of the assembly line, and the Model T revolutionized the American Automobile industry. That all happened right here in Detroit, NOW look at it. “
The scene fades in on an extremely run down section of town. There is trash littering the streets. Down an ally, you can see the ripped and torn shoes on the feet of a man we presume to be either asleep behind a dumpster, or dead. Either one would be normal for this part of town, or really any part of town now a days. A very trashy dressed woman stands on the street corner waiting for John to drive by and give her a look. Gunshots are heard in the distance, as are police sirens quickly accompanying them. Two or three different buildings are boarded up with big white condemned signs on the front of them.
“What the hell could have happened to send this once bustling city down into the pits of hell like this? What could have possibly happened that degraded this place so much that even the toughest people in the world are weary about coming here. The birthplace of MoTown, home of 8 mile, and the city that gave us Kiss…okay, that last one is a bit iffy, but you know what I mean. All that couldn’t stand up to one horrible human flaw that we all fall prey to at one time or another. Neglect!”
Terry keeps walking down the street as the city seems to keep getting worse and worse as he goes.
“They saw a good thing, and didn’t nurture it, didn’t care for it. They just took it for granted and assumed it would always be there. They were wrong. It deteriorated, it collapsed, it died!”
Terry stops, looking down to the ground with a heavy stare and sighs.
“I’m guilty of this too. I’m guilty of it with you Aubrey...guilty of neglect. I didn’t see your cries for help. I didn’t see you for who you really were. I didn’t see that through all your crazy, that you were truly hurting inside. I could have done something about that. I could have talked to you, could have treated you differently, I could have helped. But here we are, a relationship shattered all to hell, and for that Aubrey… I’m sorry!”
Terry leans against one of the buildings. A homeless man walks by holding a cup and stops next to him for a second holding it out. Terry shakes his head and reaches into his pocket throwing some loose coins and a few bills into the man’s cup and he stumbles past.
“But you see, I was consumed by this title, consumed by making it to one full year, consumed by being the best in the world and proving it over and over. So when it came to this match, when it came to facing you at shockwave… you who have cut through everybody in APW, clawing and scratching till you get to the very top. I knew I had to do something different, I knew I had to come up with something bigger and greater than I did for Kurt Noble, than Keaton Saint, than CJ Gates, hell even more so than Level Fucking One! For as experienced as the four of them are as legendary as the four of them are, you had something they didn’t something that stood you apart. You have an insane desire for ALL the world to acknowledge that you’re the absolute best. You would do anything, ANYTHING for that title… you would kill me for that title. You, Aubrey had that killer instinct that the others lacked. And that… that made you a bigger threat than they could ever be.”
Terry paused and shook his head.
“So the normal tactics wouldn’t do, oh no not in the least. Aubrey J. Parker, the woman who’s perfected her own methods of mind games, the woman who’s gotten into the head of each and every one of her opponents over the past few months absolutely wouldn’t fall for one of my massive schemes. It took a great deal of ingenuity and outside the box thinking, but I did it Aubrey… I came up with something that would blow your fucking mind, that would send you so far over the edge that come Shockwave, your head would be so scattered, the advantage would most definitely be mine. And you know Aubrey…IT WORKED!”
Terry smiles a wicked smile.
“What was my dastardly plan? What possibly scheme could have made you so incredibly unhinged as you’ve displayed over the last few weeks, what with the demands for handicapped matches and delusionally thinking the world was out to get you? Nothing, Aubrey! I did absolutely nothing! And I watched as the inferiority complex took hold and you just couldn’t stand it, you just couldn’t handle the fact that I wasn’t taking you seriously, that I didn’t feel threatened by you! And you slowly cracked!”
Terry then shrugs.
“Or maybe I’m lying Aubrey. Maybe this was all just a happy coincidence and your loose wire up in your head did all the work for me. The fact of the matter is you couldn’t possibly tell one way or another because you’re not even remotely inside my head, but I’m sure as HELL inside yours!”
Terry smiles again and points to his own head.
“I know what you think now Aubrey. I know what your motivations are, I know what makes you tick. I know why you lash out at people who used to be your friends. I know why you go out of your way to make the world hate you. I know why you can’t just be content with your friends, with your boyfriend, with ANYTHING…It’s because you can’t stand being happy. The second you get that smile on your face, you freak out and frantically look for a way to FUCK everything up. When you were the North American Champion, you tried to fuck up M&M and it just barely survived. When you were the Suicidal Champion, you tried to fuck up your almost friendship with Christian Kane and became even more bitter enemies. And now that you are here with the New Sindicate and we had the chance to make a BIG impact on this god forsaken brand… you FUCKED that up too! Aubrey’s only happy when she’s absolutely miserable. Talon will learn soon enough, I know I learned the hard way!”
Terry shakes his head and continues.
“But you don’t just do this things to do them Aubrey, no you have yet a higher purpose. It’s why you pretend to walk around all crazy, why you pretend to snap instead of facing the music and admitting that you’re a horrible person. It’s because you crave the attention. You crave it so bad that even the hatred of every single wrestling fan, of every single roster member makes you unbearably proud. You soak it in like some brain dead masochist. You think any attention is good attention… but being an Attention Whore has no happy ending Aubrey. Because soon, the world will know what it is you crave, will know what keeps you breathing, what keeps you going, what makes you tick...and you’ve alienated them so much that they’ll want to do whatever they can to crush your spirit… so they’ll simply stop caring.”
Terry looks and waves his hand at the desolate city.
“And you see what happens when something requires attention and is starved from it don't you Aubrey? It wastes away to nothing, all of it’s potential laying in the gutter next to some homeless man who just drank his own pee. Is that where you want to end up Aubrey? Cause if it is, I’m the guy to help you get there. I’m the guy who will dispatch you at Shockwave tomorrow night proving to the world that I am without a doubt the GREATEST CHAMPION who will ever live, and you will be just another chapter in my story. Slowly you will fade away and don the title the girl who “almost was.” After time people will forget your name and have to run to google to figure out just who you are. They’ll stumble on a few heartless and poor attempts at porn proving to be your desperate cry for help, a cry that nobody will listen too because anyone who would have cared was pushed from your life long ago. And then you’ll finally be that girl you’ve always seen yourself as… faceless, nothing. You’ll be a mere memory, a fleeting thought every now and then!”
Terry nods to the building behind him that used to be an old steel mill or automobile factory. The barrels burning newspapers to keep the cities homeless warm kinda gets in the way of fully recognizing the structure.
“You’ll be just like Detroit, always trying to find a way to stay memorable. So you’ll resort to history, resort to the facts, telling stories about the good old days. You’ll fondly remember them as the happiest times of your life, and you’ll miss them dearly… But just like your grip on reality, those memories will be distorted. Cause you were never happy Aubrey… and you’ll never be happy. You’re physically and mentally incapable of it. The proof is in the way you live your life and sabotage everything you’ve ever loved. Winning this title, that wouldn’t make you happy either, cause you’ll just find some new aspect to hate. Fortunately for you Aubrey, you won’t have to worry about that too much. This title will never be in your hands… I promise you that!”
Terry walks further down the street for a good while until we get to the only part of Detroit that still thrives… oddly enough it’s right next to the MGM Grand Casino. Somehow in a city where everyone is jobless… they can still find a way to make it to the Casinos.
“You see, I will never EVER become the Detroit of professional wrestling. I’ve left my mark on this place enough that the world will always remember the name of Terry Marvin right off the top of their head. Even when I’m dead and gone, the world will talk about my one solid year PLUS as Undisputed Champion, about how I didn’t turn down a single challenge, about how I beat the names of people whose pictures hang right beside mine in the pro wrestling Hall of Fame. So if you think for one second i'm going to let you… Aubrey… derail me from that dream than you’re not only more Norman Bates than I originally believed, but you’ve been hanging out with Jason Kash WAY too much smoking shit that he wouldn’t even put in his body!
There’s no way in hell I’m going to let you take this title and defile it as some sort of bling you can rub in the faces of those who hate you and bring yet more attention to yourself. You’re not doing this cause it’s your dream… no that noble thought left your brain a long time ago. This is a matter of greed to you Aubrey. This is a matter of making all of your critics look at you and go “OH, you were right, you really are awesome.” This is some sort of silly vindication for all those who've said you could never do it, you could never win the big one. And while i’m a big fan of proving all those people wrong, that’s not your goal is it Aubrey. You don’t want to prove them wrong… you want to scream out “HATE ME MORE! HATE ME MORE!” FUCK THAT! Not on my watch.
Whether these people want to believe it or not, I’m one HELL of a champion. I represent this company with all the qualities it takes to bring the right kind of attention on the place. I’ve cleaned up my act and the APW fans see me now as someone they can be proud of, as someone they can get behind and support. Even if most of them can’t admit it yet. But they will, they will when I vanquish you tomorrow night. They will when I keep this title from falling in the hands of somebody truly more evil than I’ve ever been, somebody without a single degree of warmth in their heart. Then they’ll see that all along I was doing what’s best for them, that I was trying to give them something to believe in. See they hate me too Aubrey… but they believe in me. They see the worth of me. You, they would gladly clap their hands and make you disappear if they could!”
Terry continues walking as he passes through a not so great part of town sitting inbetween two fairly nice areas. It’s clear that while trying to rebuild this city, while trying to make it better… they fucked up along the way and failed in one of their endeavours.
“You see, I made one huge mistake over the last 6 months as I tried to do the right thing, as I tried to repair my image, as I tried to show my undying respect toward the business. I was well on my way to being the man I wanted to be, to being the man Maggie helped me to be… but one thing got in my way. One thing derailed me. YOU DID AUBREY! See you seduced me with the idea of comradery, with the idea of a super Sindicate that could rule the APW without anybody stopping me. And I fell for it cause I thought you were genuine, I thought it was the thing that APW really needed. But I was wrong. You were only trying to get close to me, to use me as a tool to catapult yourself toward greatness. To guarantee that you wouldn’t be a target of mine. You USED me Aubrey… You FUCKED me Aubrey and I didn't even get a damn second of pleasure out of it! You lied and manipulated me till you had me where you wanted. Don’t give me the bullshit about knowing one of us was going to stab the other in the back cause you know damn well that it wasn't going to be me… and you know damn well you didn’t have to. You wanted to… this was your plan from the beginning. You are crazy AJP… like a goddamn fox. You did exactly what I would have done… unfortunately you did it to the WRONG FUCKING PERSON! You pissed off a man who’s made a career out of making people wish they’d never been born… Now I’m about to go back in time and mentally abort your ass!”
After walking for a while, Terry stops as in the horizon stands Ford Field… the future sight of Shockwave!
“Tomorrow night we’ll bring a little bit of joy and relevance back to this broken city when we step into THAT arena and go head to head. The woman trying to achieve a dream and the man trying to hold on to it. Tomorrow Night, I will make you pay for slamming my head into the steel steps two weeks ago. I will make you pay for every single second I considered you a friend, a confidant, somebody worthy of my time. And I will show no mercy to the heartless conniving bitch who tried to manipulate my feelings and emotions into STEALING this title instead of earning it like a true warrior. You are a coward and you shall die a coward's death… publicly, embarrassingly, and righteously.
Aubrey, you’re the only thing that stands in the way of me proudly getting to proclaim myself the greatest and longest champion on any level in APW history. You’re the only thing that stands in the way of my year long journey! And that’s not going to end well for you.
I RULE Asylum Aubrey… I've ruled EVERYTHING for one long year. This is still the REAL SHOW ERA! This is still the Summer of Showtime!
This is STILL my world… I’m simply allowing you to live in it… for another day that is.
Unlike this city, I will not fall by the wayside. I will not be forgotten. I will not be brought to ruin. Not by you. Not by anyone. Not until I’m done!
And I SAY when I’m done Aubrey… I say when enough is enough.
And right now, I say you FAIL at your mission to become the queen of wrestling, to climb to the top of that mountain. You will slip… you will fall… and I will be there to bury you.
You wanted to do this your way AJP… now you’ll suffer the consequences.
Fuck you Aubrey J. Parker.. you should have listened to me and now… now, “
Terry turns with Ford field as his backdrop.
“IT’S SHOWTIME!”
Scientist say that the mind is a beautiful thing, but how the hell do they know? The mind could be a center full of nightmares and insecurities that are just waiting to burst out, but we keep them buried inside so they simply eat away at us from beneath!
