Shadow enters the Roadhouse looking for Ash. It's been far too long but he doesn't have time to spare. He walks into the establishment looking around, Jo approaches.
"Shadow!" Her voice is perky. He smiles in response about to speak. But it fades quick.
"I'm sorry, Jo." He doesn't spot Ash and walks past her saying, "I'm on a bit of a time table."
"It's nice to see you too." She says to no one.
There was only one place Ash could be. Shadow walked toward the back of the roadhouse. As he turned the corner toward Ash's room he spoted someone already at Ash's door. Some young dude holding a computer. Her knocked on Ash's door.
"Come on Ash, open up!"
Shadow stared at the door and saw the Dr. Badass sign read "In." With a laugh he walked right up to the door, clenched his fist and banged in the door twice.
"Hey Dr. Badass!"
Three seconds later the door opened. Ash looked at both of them from the dark room. His eyes squinted and he gave a half glare at the other guy.
"Mitch, you got an appointment?" Ash's eyes cut to Shadow. "Oh hey Shadow!"
Suddenly his demeanor dropped.
"Oh... hey Shadow." He took a deep breath. "I guess that means I need my pants."
Shadow never looked down as Ash shut the door. He turned and walked back to the bar to apologize to Jo. Her back was to him as she bused a table but he didn't know what to say.
"I've been fine by the way."
Her voice was curt, but she wasn't being cruel. He couldn't tell, but she rolled her eyes. She took the remaining mugs in one hand and ran the bus cloth across the table with the other.
"Listen, Jo." Shadow started saying as he glanced around for Jo's mother. "I'm sorry about earlier. It's just..."
"Time table, yeah," She interrupted turning to him. "I heard you."
It's her turn to walk past him now. Shadow is left standing there speechless. After a moment as he walks away. At the corner of the bar Ash is already out with his laptop open. Shadow took a seat across from him.
"So did you find out anything?"
"No sir, if Sentinel has a recording of his voice, it's not online." Ash says without looking up from the screen.
"Figures."
Ash notices Shadow shake his head. "They really made you look like a bitch didn't they?"
Shadow glances back. "Eat me. Well, what about the other stuff I asked about?"
"US house fires from 1976, there are at least six. Three with several survivors, two with no survivors and then there is yours. September 1976, House fire in Balch Springs Texas claims two. One survivor, their son, one year old Steve ---."
"Yeah, I know who I am."
"Apparently we didn't," Ash says. "Nothing like that in the years before or after either. Your incident was one of a kind brother."
The news was disappointing. For years Shadow had been searching for answers. He was starting to run out of options. At this point, there was only one question left for Ash.
"What about Slade?"
"For a guy who loved the spotlight, he really disappeared into the background. What was that bullshit about him being spotted at an active volcano?"
"Yeah, It's all true man." Shadow's voice sounded completely sincere.
"Footage?" Ash's eyes were skeptical.
"Oh no that was all bullshit. Assassin made it up to get us all back together."
A bewildered look slaps Ash in the face. "Okay now I'm really confused."
Shadow lets out a single chuckle. "It's true, while APW was in Hawaii, two people spotted Slade walking out whatever volcano that was. But they did not record it. Assassin then dropped word there was footage of it on the internet. I went to check it out and ran into him there.
"What's he doing back?" Ash interrupted?
"He told me he wanted to reform the A.K.A. But Slade was already gone and I didn't want to. I didn't see the need to drag Assassin in on my problems."
"And Slade really walked out of the Samoan Mt. Doom?"
Shadow nodded. "Yes."
But Ash wasn't buying it. "How?"
Now it was Shadow's turn to look confused.
"Dude, seriously?" The giant asked in disbelief as Ellen walks over. "Why do you think Assassin, Slade and I were in APW? That place is haunted, bro. You've seen the kind of things that wander those halls: ghosts, monsters, demons, Aubrey J Parker. And a ghost of Slade Craven is so bad ass he'd manifest himself when APW rocked Hawaii. That's what makes us such good hunters. We do it for a living."
"And you're hunting some Satanic cult now arn't you."
"I'm hunting a monster. And I'm going to put it down. I've seen what it can do. It's currently set up shop in the Philippines. My flight leaves in five hours."
"You hate planes."
Shadow remembered he was on a time table and stood up.
"I know I do. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks Ash."
Shadow stands up and motions to Ellen as she pours Ash a PBR. He runs his hands through his mullet and goes back to his laptop as she brings it over while Shadow turns and heads toward the door. Jo is waiting there for him."
"Going to leave without saying goodbye?"
She was tiny compared to him.
"Never," He smiled and walked by.
Jo turned her head giving him a coy look. Her eyes fell to her mother who hadn't said a word to Shadow since he walked in. She noticed how they never spoke much and Shadow's visits were sporadic. It left her wondering. Outside in the parking lot, Shadow looked at his phone. He had two missed calls. Neither were numbers he recognized. He put his phone away as he reached the door to his Firebird. He head to drop her off at Bobby's before his flight. As he opened the door, Shadow turned his head back to the Roadhouse. He knew this hunt was dangerous. Shadow knew the creature that he was after was a monster. Sentinel nearly destroyed Shadow with that chair. Then there was the ambush. Things could be a lot worse and that's what bothered Shadow the most. This might be the last time Shadow saw the Roadhouse because if he didn't stop this monster now, it might stop him.
I can't remember the last time someone came back for thirds. Challenge accepted.
Because you can dish it out as much as you take it, I am going to whip your ass all over the Phillipines. Oh it will be a slobber knocker. We certainly have not disappointed the crowd before. The ring barely survived our last brawl. I say, I'm done holding back. And I don't expect you to hold back either Sentinel. One of us is going down. And that can happen anywhere.
And everywhere is we'll go because I'm going video game on your ass. F.C.A. that means the Coliseum is our playground. It's rather fitting. Even though it's not THE Coliseum, it will do. That new GM is doing us justice. Sentinel, you're two hundred and seventy seven pounds of silverback muscle and ivory bones. You are a beast. I'm a gladiator. I say, the crowd WILL be entertained!
Because I know you can deliver. I watched what you did to Terry Marvin at Shockwave, I repeatedly reviewed how you earned your tag title shot. Talon wasn't lying when she described you before the gauntlet match. You're a monster. Hunting monsters is what I do and yes, I know that I am a monster too. Although, I'm a more primeval monster. I guess that means this is survival of the fittest. Bring it!
However you should know that no matter what you say your reason is for throwing me out of the ring; I'm always going to say it was because you could NOT beat me, bitch. You're going to pay for making it come to this too. You have a staple for ruining good matches. Just like the beautiful gauntlet match you rage quit with the steel chair. I don't know if you wanted to win by count out, go for a draw, hope that I'd take the easy way out by either using a weapon or snake the ringout and leave you with some dignity; I don't care, you still bitched out. And then you and Zachariah Blood swung me into the ocean. You fucked up my gear. I had to get another pair of boots. Tell me how they feel after the match.
Oh wait, you don't talk. Instead of talking about me, you're too busy floating over those tag titles which elude you. Or maybe you're blowing up Parker's email wanting payment. Or are you and that cock-gobbler thinking up a back up plan to save your hide this time, Sentinel? I've been focusing on you . You know I've been thinking I might bury you alive. That's an "anywhere," and I'm pretty good at it. You could ask Slade, but nobody knows where that asshole is. So let's just check in with Zachariah Blood after I planted his ass in the beach. He shouldn't have brought the chair. I'll let you imagine what I would have done to Sentinel had I got my hands on that chair!
Then again I wouldn't give you the pleasure. I would have beat you fair and square, because I have conviction. And it looked like I might have the chance to do it but then your boyfriend had to get involved, again. So concerning Blood being barred from the match, who did you piss off? Dude, you're on someone's shit list for sure. Although, the think that cracks me up is even after everything Sentinel did for Stefan Raab and Aubrey J. Parker, you're tag title shot is void if you home boy shows up this week. That's freaking hilarious.
You know what else is hilarious? The fact that you're a mercenary who sucks at getting paid. You're supposed to be this vicious, big-daddy, monster but you can't collect from one ho. Unforgiven is pussywhipped. That's right bitch i said it. What are you going to make that cock-gobbler say this time? It doesn't matter to me. Time to put up or shut up Sentinel. When this is over one of us will not be standing. I aim for that to be me.
Sentinel it's time to find out who the better monster is. I can hear that crowd calling to us. They are begging to see you and I tear one another apart. It will happen and I'm looking forward to it. Hell I dare Sentinel to "show me how it's done." If there was ever a person who could, I'd think it would be that mammoth. So I'm calling you out Sentinel. Because I also aim to prove that no matter what you do. I will not let you win.
"Shadow!" Her voice is perky. He smiles in response about to speak. But it fades quick.
