This week, as the APW makes its way to Japan and One Night in Hell, the bi-weekly Sunday Night Asylum hits the airwaves from the Smart Araneta Coliseum, also known as “the Big Dome”, in Quezon City in the Philippines. The night promises to be an exciting evening, with several of the current reigning champions in action and new stars debuting, highlighted by Terry Marvin defending the APW Undisputed Championship against Young Mannie.
For two young Megastars, this Asylum may not only get them out of the funk of a lackluster win/loss record by giving them not only their biggest victory since joining Action Packed Wrestling, but may also put them directly into the Tag Team Championship hunt. That team is Sang Réal, comprised of second generation wrestlers Connor Murphy and Gabriel Krown.
The two second generation wrestlers are standing in the empty parking lot outside “the Big Dome” on a warm, beautiful sunny day just a day away from Asylum. As is always the case when they are not wrestling, the two are dressed in what look to be tailored suits. Murphy is wearing a three piece pinstripe gray suit and a black tie. He has on those gold round framed sunglasses of his that have become part of his signature look when outside the ring. Krown is wearing a dark blue two piece suit and a red tie.
It is roughly noon on this beautiful day. The sun is high in the partially cloudy, blue sky over the empty parking lot and arena. Neither Murphy nor Krown seem to notice the heat.
Murphy: “So you think it was all handed to us? That we never had to work for it? That everything we have wanted and have earned in our careers was just handed to us on a silver platter? Is that what you think?”
Krown: “Well that would be awesome. I am not going to lie. That would be totally awesome if we just walked in and someone hands us the Tag Team Championships. I mean, yeah, I have seen some wrestlers debut in championships matches, but we have never been those wrestlers. We have debuted wrestling champions in non-title matches, but never wrestling title matches.”
Murphy: “All our names did was open a few doors for us. Every championship, every opportunity, we have had to earn on our own merit. It is on that merit that we are going to beat you Dying Breed.”
Krown: “Oh look at us, we are the Dying Breed, we worked for everything we have and that makes us somehow makes us special despite the fact that everyone else works hard to accomplish stuff. Please, this is America, or at least it used to be a part of it, but anyway, see people act like hard work and dedication and what not is the way to go, but everyone wants to take the easy route, the most reward for the least risk. So you can act like you are somehow better than us, but we are willing to bet that you guys are not exactly struggling to make ends meet or living paycheck to paycheck like the people you claim to represent.”
Murphy: “You act like you are still in touch with your roots and where you come from, but let me ask you a few questions. Are you living in the same place you were when you still started out? I would guess that you are not. Are you still driving that same beat up and broken down car you were driving years ago to get from arena to arena? No, I don’t think you are. If fired today, would you go back to bingo halls and high school gyms to wrestle in front of a hundred people for maybe $10 or would you find a company that let you wrestle in Madison Square Garden in front of over ten thousand people for thousands of dollars? Of course you would take the other option. Do you still fly coach or do you go first class or maybe private plane? Real men of the people you two are.”
Krown: “We are arrogant, self-absorbed spoiled rich kids, but we admit what we are. We do not hide it. The simple fact is that you resent us being born better.”
Murphy: “You are what we call new money. You act like hard work and dedication is the key, yet you want to be us, the old money; the ones born into it. So you may not act like us, but you live like us.”
Krown: “No one spends their life working to get a minimum wage job with crappy pay, lousy benefits so they can barely afford a busted up apartment and buys a rust bucket of a vehicle. No. People bust their ass and work hard to be rich and successful, but they want the lucky break. That is why people play Powerball, Mega Millions and buy scratch ticket after scratch ticket. Everyone wants money without having to earn it.”
Murphy: “We earned our spot, our place in this business. Our names got us in the door, but they did not get us the world. We are here to prove our place in the Murphy and Krown legacies.”
Krown: “Bingo halls, high school gyms, we managed to skip most of that because of who we are. But that does not mean we had it easy.”
Murphy points to the arena behind him.
Murphy: “Places like that, and anywhere with a wrestling ring was our school. We learned this business as children and this is where we belong. So you can resent us for that and how we live, but you know you want to be us.”
Krown opens his suit jacket. Murphy lowers his arm.
Krown: “Private planes, limos, and tailored suits are how we roll boys. You have to admit that it is better than some rust bucket Ford Tarus going across the country to wrestle for $10 in front of less than one hundred people. We paid our dues and we are living large. We know you are. So do not judge us for being open about it.”
Krown buttons his jacket again.
Murphy: “As I said, we know our roots. We have never forgotten where we came form or what made us the way we are. We are Sang Réal, and it is as much a lifestyle and mentality as it is a name. We were just born to our status. You earned it, but that is the only difference.”
Krown: “Guys, this is not class warfare, because you two are no longer a part of the class you represent. Yeah, sure you may go to the old neighborhood to visit and give back to the community and what not, but we know you aren’t carrying credit cards or wearing a fancy watch or leaving your car unlocked and the alarm off or even living there any more. Face it, you are new money. There is no shame in it. So stop acting like you are coming from the streets when we both know you showed up to the Shockwave party in thousand dollar suits that cost more than the high risk you probably grew up in.”
Murphy: “We do have doubts that those suits were bought off a bargain rack or at a hospital thrift store or any thrift store. We know suits. Those may have been store bought, but they were not cheap.”
Krown: “You two claim we forgot our roots or we were lead astray? Hardly. We know who we are. We have always known who we are and what we are here to do. We are Sang Réal, Connor Murphy and Gabriel Krown, and we are born and bred wrestlers. You two are title holders, but we were born to be champions. We are young, arrogant, spoiled punks, but at least we admit it. You two are new money trying to show the world you still remember where you come from while making more than your parents ever did and living better than everyone in your old neighborhood has. So really, who forgot whose roots?”
Murphy: “We claimed our first loss to you two in the triple threat elimination was a fluke. That was all Unforgiven’s fault. Our second match to you, the one-on-one encounter, we will admit that you were the better team that evening. But this is a new match, a new night and a new day. This time, with you two so focused on your match at One Night in Hell, we just may be able to sneak out with that victory. After all, Zachariah Blood sneaked by you two, and you have already beaten Unforgiven.”
Krown: “That can’t be good for you two considering the stipulation he could pick.
Murphy: “This is about those APW Tag Team Championships you currently hold. We want them. Beating you is the key to getting them. Even if you lose them at One Night in Hell a win over you is still helpful.”
Krown: “Maybe we win, and maybe we lose, but at the end of the two, we won’t be the hypocrites hiding the fact they will fly out of here on a first class flight, while promoting they are from the street. We said you two were a good tag team, but we were just born better. This week at Aslyum, in that dome looking thing behind us, proving it is what we are going to do.”
Murphy: “So let’s see if you two can focus and pick up the win again, or maybe, just like what happened with Zachariah Blood, you let a loss slip through your fingers. Those belts are our destiny, our birthright and we want them. Sooner or later, we will come for them. So why not start now? That’s Murphy’s Law.”
Krown: “So old money versus new. End of the day, we’re still born better than you. And that is Checkmate.”
Murphy: “And we are Sang Réal.”
The camera zooms for a close up of the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The scene fades to black on the shot of “the Big Dome”.
