::She has come home to the place of her birth. As part of the promotional work for APW’s One Night in Hell, several APW Megastars have been traveling through Asian countries like South Korea, Singapore, and China to promote the event. Who better to sent to the place being hyped as “Asia’s World City”, Hong Kong, People’s Republic of China, than its native born daughter, “the Hong Kong Sensation” Amy Zing? No one, that’s who. It has been a busy few days for her. She’s done radio and television interviews, public appearance and of course, having to visit family that still lives in Hong Kong.::
::As the sun starts to set, Amy stands on the bow of a Chinese junk, an ancient Chinese ship design still found today and commonly seen in the harbors of Hong Kong. These ships are sturdy and effective, capable of sailing great distances. The sail’s design makes the ship fast and easy to control. While it is a sailing ship, oars are present.::
::“The Hong Kong Sensation” is dressed in a pair of jeans and a white top with a jacket. The APW North American Championship is around her waist. Her hair is pulled back in a ponytail, the sea breeze still manages to move a few loose strands of hair.::
::She glances over the city her family left when she was only a child, back in 1999 when Great Britain handed control of the island back to the People’s Republic of China.::
“I cannot help but wonder what would happen if by chance, Jace Savage and Brian Hollywood, you should happen to lose to me and Shione, but you were able to defeat the Dying Breed and Unforgiven for the APW Tag Team Championships. Would that place Shione and myself as number one contenders or would that put us in line for a shot or what? I mean at the very least, it would show we were at least something of a legitimate tag team. Now granted, we have had a few conversations about the two of us forming a tag team, which happened before we had our first tag team match with Robina Hood and Kaylyn James Evans. We had those talks a few weeks after we became friends. It was really only after that match and our win there that we really actually talked about it as more than just the occasional thing. Not that we are thinking of sacrificing our individual careers to solely focus on being a tag team, but yeah, going after the APW Tag Team Championships would be something we would probably end up doing. Now sure, maybe it will be a wasted effort given that Shione and I are facing each other at One Night in Hell and the North American Championship could come between us. As I have said, I am hopeful that our friendship can survive One Night in Hell. Then again, I am still hoping to be APW North American Champion after my match at One Night in Hell, but that is neither here nor there at the moment. Maybe one of you pins me and I retain my championship and one of you gains a title shot, or you pin Shione and she wins the title and again, you gain a shot at the North American Championship. This is really an interesting situation we all find ourselves in going into Thursday Night Overdrive.”
::She looks to be about to say something else when she realizes that she was pretty much rambling there about nothing really important and just closes her mouth, pursing her lips. She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She exhales slowly and opens her eyes as she does every time this happens, which is probably often enough that one would think she’d have worked on it, but it seems to be just one of those quirks she can’t control. She turns from the cityscape to face forward to the waters of the harbor.::
“The APW Tag Team division is really just sort of exploding now, isn’t it? I mean, at the top there is Dying Breed, the current champions, and the teams like the Unforgiven, the two of you, Iron Nightmare, Sang Réal, though they seem to be in a slump as of late, Foul Play, I think there is a team called Space Cowboys here, Vox Populi, if they are still a team, but I don’t recall ever seeing them in a tag team match, and maybe Red Shield Mafia is back together, although I am not sure, and apparently, myself and Shione. I think that there are more tag teams, and I am sorry if I forgot anyone. But, needless to say, there is a pretty active hunt for the APW Tag Team Championships.”
::She brushes a few loose strands of hair from her face.::
“Now, Savage, Hollywood, the way I see it, while Shione and I would like to gain a victory, you two NEED the victory. You two NEED to get the win so you can gain that all important momentum going into One Night in Hell. I think more people are talking about Unforgiven than they are New Gen Rising.”
“It would look really bad if the two of you, an established tag team with the opportunity at the APW Tag Team Championships, lost to myself and Shione, a team that has, quite literally, just come together. It would be a tad embarrassing if you guys lost. That would help me out, but it would really hurt what momentum you two have gained in recent weeks.”
::She takes a deep breath in and a slow breath out, as if trying to get the scent of where she was born locked in.::
“Honestly, I could not care less about momentum. I never have. People look at it like it is this all important thing one needs to have in order to win. I have never really been one to have momentum on my side. I am fairly confident in saying, that since becoming the North American Champion, I have been on the biggest streak of my career. I have never had this kind of momentum. In the past few weeks, I have beaten two of the three challengers I am facing at One Night in Hell. By all accounts, the momentum is on my side.”
“And yet even with the momentum I have gained, I really do not believe that momentum means nothing when it comes to winning and losing. Robina Hood, Kaylyn James Evans and Shione Oshima are all capable of winning this championship. Just because Kaylyn has never beaten me and Robina has sort of been up and down as of late means nothing. I know how dangerous and driven those two can be. I could have all the momentum on my side going into One Night in Hell, and still lose the championship.”
::She smiles a faint smile.::
“I mean honestly, look at my career. One minute I am up and then I am down the next. I really have no idea what my win/loss record is in Action Packed Wrestling because I do not keep track of it, and to be completely honest, it is probably not that great. I think it is safe to say that my losses outnumber my victories and not by as slim margin as I would like.”
“I had almost no momentum going into the Meltdown Supershow and, yet somehow despite that, I was able to do what I had been working so long and so hard to do and finally won a championship.”
::Her hands drift to her waist, to the North American Championship title belt she spend so long pursuing and then, on August 27th, finally managed to win. She slowly reaches around and removes the title from her waist. Holding the championship with both hands, she looks down at the plate that not only bares the flag of her adopted homeland, the United States, but also now bares her name on the nameplate, the tenth North American Champion in history.::
“Since that moment, it has never been about trying to gain momentum and keeping it. For me, it was about proving I deserved to be a champion. I never set out to be the longest reigning North American Champion of all time, or the greatest in APW history. Personally, I would be happy if, at the end of my reign, people dubbed me an adequate champion. I certainly don’t want to be the worst ever. That would be unfortunate. I would, however, be willing to accept adequate or acceptable, because that would make me try harder to make my second reign as a champion better than my first. I never set out to have the longest reign, or be the greatest. I just set out to be a decent champion, and right now, I am enjoying every moment of this reign. I would like to believe that at the very least, I have held this title with the pride and honor it deserves, and that I have at least been a descent champion.”
::She lifts the title up and drape it over her shoulder. She smiles a bit amused, like the idea of trying to at least be a decent champion is a strange goal in a business where everyone is trying to be the best.::
“Savage, Hollywood, Shione and I really have nothing to prove in this match. Now obviously neither of us are just going to let you walk all over us and get an easy win. That is not our style. I have what some people call an annoying habit of fighting even if it is a losing battle and Shione is too stubborn to give up without a fight. It’s a thing we share in common. And then you have to add in that whole thing about Shione wrestling in her home country, which may or may not go in our favor, but certainly isn’t going to make her take it any easier.”
“I know what Kaylyn and Robina can do because I have been in the ring with both of them. Shione and I have yet to face each other in the ring. We really have no idea what the other can do. Only way to find out is to watch each other in the ring, so for us, this is really more sort of a game of “can you top this?” and that may not be all that helpful to you guys.”
“We really have nothing to lose. Win, lose or draw, Shione and I still go into One Night in Hell to compete in the Fatal Fourway Bra & Panties Match, where it is every woman for herself. We both know and accept this. You two, however, probably will not benefit from losing this match before a Japanese Deathmatch. I debuted in that battle royal Japanese Deathmatch thing last year at this very pay-per-view, so trust me when I say that it is not an easy match to compete in.”
“When you add that to the fact that Dying Breed has continually proven why they are the Tag Team Champions as well as the Unforgiven proving how tough and dangerous they are as a team, the if you believe momentum is really important to have on your side, then you really need this victory. However, Shione and I are not going down without a fight. And no offense, but as I do not personally believe in momentum being all that important for victory, I really have no interest in letting you get anymore than you already have.”
“You can call yourselves New Gen Rising if you like, but Shione and I are part of the new generation of wrestlers that are trying to make a name in Action Packed Wrestling. I have only been here a year and she's been here a few months and people have taken notice. We are making names for ourselves here. And at Thursday Night Overdrive we are going to show you exactly what we are capable of.”
::Again, she takes the title belt she spent so long chasing that even she admits she became a bit obsessed off her shoulder and holds it up, looking at it. There is a sadness in her voice, as if she knows the end is drawing near, but also a defiance and determination to not go quietly into the night, but to fight as she always has and go out in a blaze of glory as only she can.::
“This could very well be the last night I walk into Thursday Night Overdrive as a champion. While I really have no intention of losing the championship, I know it is a possibility that I have to accept. However, if this is my last Overdrive as a champion, then I am going out with as big a blaze of glory as I can.”
::She drapes the title back on her shoulder. Her eyes are forward, looking towards the horizon, and symbolically to the future and One Night in Hell in Tokyo, Japan.::
“This is the final Thursday Night Overdrive before we go to Tokyo for One Night in Hell, the night Action Packed Wrestling goes extreme with all kinds of special matches. This is the last time to show what you can do before the big show in Tokyo. So, with that in mind, I am going into this match to kick someone’s head off and show the two of you why I am simply Amy Zing. So good luck and Shione and I will see you Thursday at Overdrive.”
::The scene slowly fades out with Amy standing on the ancient ship as the sun sets over Hong Kong.::
