Inside Beijing, capital city of the People’s Republic of China, there is another city. It is a city of 980 buildings inside walls surrounded by the city of Bejing. This city within a city, with its high walls, and gorgeous and ornate statues and buildings that not only exemplify Chinese palatial architecture, but are also among the oldest wooden structures on Earth and, it is a city fit for royalty. This is the Forbidden City. It is here in this city that China’s emperors and empresses sat for five centuries, before the dawn of the democratic Republic of China and the rise of the communist People’s Republic of China. Truly, it is a palace build for a ruler claiming divine right under China’s Mandate of Heaven.
Inside the Forbidden City is the Hall of Supreme Harmony, where emperors of China held coronations, weddings and other ceremonial events. The build sits on top of a rising stair way that resembles a small step pyramid. It is lined with columns and decorated with dragons, symbols of masculinity and power in Chinese culture. The sun is starting to set over the city where China’s imperial power sat for 500, all the way to the last emperor.
Stand9ojng in the middle of these stairs is self-proclaimed wrestling royalty, Sang Réal, Connor Murphy and Gabriel Krown. The two second generation wrestlers are both dressed in grey suits with black ties. Murphy’s is a three piece and he is, of course, wearing his usual gold round framed sunglasses. Krown’s suit is a lighter grey two piece.
Murphy: “Now, I think it would suffice to say that these past few weeks have not gone very well for us.”
Krown: “That would be much nicer and more upbeat way of saying that we are on a losing streak. It is rather irritating actually.”
The grandson of the Irish wrestling legend, Sheamus Murphy, turns and sort of glares at the heir of the Krown wrestling dynasty.
Murphy: “Why would you say that?”
Krown turns back to face him.
Krown: “Well we have been losing. And your making us miss that train did not help anything. I mean why would you make that a thing you would do man?”
Murphy: “I already told you that it was the front office and they gave me the wrong information.”
Krown: “That is hardly an excuse. It is okay for hardly an excuse mind you, but still hardly an excuse.”
Murphy looks like he wants to argue a little, but instead he turns away and points to the camera like he is pointing at someone. He sounds upset.
Murphy: “Now we can accept being counted out, getting pinned, disqualification, or losing because we no showed. What happened on the last Asylum was more than we can stand.”
Krown glares into the camera, also sounding upset.
Krown: “We take midgets parading around as established wrestlers when they are no more than a carnival or sideshow attraction personally. If they had any place in actual wrestling, there would be midgets in wrestling companies actually getting in the ring and competing instead of being some sort of mascot. I don’t see any midget wrestlers here in Action Packed Wrestling trying to be North American Champion or No Limits Champion. A girl who tends to ramble and is just so disgustingly nice? Yes, sure. But I do not see any midgets.”
Murphy: “Kash, what you did was no only insulting to us, but to our families and the legacies our fathers built. And it is an insult we are not going to let slide.”
Krown: “Not a chance you drugged up has-been.”
Murphy: “They keep referring to us as on the outside looking in, that we are so close getting an opportunity at the APW Tag Team Championships, and that we just need to have that one great moment, to make that one big impact, and we will have our opportunity. Well, fine. We plan to have that moment and make that impact in Tokyo at One Night in Hell, because right now Kash, in Beijing, in front of the palace that housed so many emperors, we are challenging you to a two-on-one handicap match.”
Krown: “Jaosn Kash versus Sang Réal.”
Murphy: “You insulted us we are going to kick your ass. We do not care that you are, for reasons no one understands, the Asylum General Manager. We are not letting this stand Kash. So we can either do it in the ring, or out back. Either way, it is your choice.”
Krown: “If you have the guts, we have the match.”
Murphy: “But honestly, we don’t think you have it in you.”
The heir to the Krown wrestling name shakes his head.
Krown: “We really don’t.”
Murphy claps his hands together, rubbing them slowly. His tone returns to normal.
Murphy: “However, this week, we have other things to deal with. This week, as much as we may dislike it, we are teaming with The Unforgiven to face NewGen Rising and the Dying Breed. They keep referring to us as on the outside looking in, that we are so close getting an opportunity at the APW Tag Team Championships, and that we just need to have that one great moment, to make that one big impact, and we will have our opportunity. Well, we plan to take that opportunity this weekend in Beijing.”
Krown: “Now we are more than capable of becoming the future number one contenders for those APW Tag Team Championships. After all, APW practically gave the number one contendership away to just about anyone. I am a little surprised we only have two number one contenders. I half expected like five or six the rate it was going a few months ago. It was starting to get a bit ridiculous. But that was then and this is now and now while we have two number one contenders, we are soon to need another set after One Night in Hell.”
Murphy: “Now we have some issues with The Unforgiven, but for one night only, we are willing to work with them to take on Dying Breed and NewGen Rising. This will be a one night only thing with no encore.”
Krown: “See, we will move past our common dislike for each other and instead we will focus on our common dislike of other people such as NewGen Rising and Dying Breed. It is sort of like how Republicans in Congress work. We may not all agree or get along, but as long as Obama is in the White House, we will united to get rid of him, even if it means taking the entire country down to do so. You have to love politics.”
Murphy: “Now, we will admit that our track record against Dying Breed is less than stellar.”
Krown: “They keep beating us.”
It is hard to tell with his sunglasses on, but Connor Murphy may have made a face at Krown’s comments of their win/loss record to the current Tag Team Champions, however, the moment is quick to pass.
Murphy: “I suppose this is where they will go on about our choice in lifestyle, how we dress and whatnot. The simple fact of the matter is that while they claim to be men of the people, they are quite well off.”
Krown: “They rich as hell. Nice homes, cars, first class airfare, fancy dinners, suits, they have all the things they condemn us for. The only difference is that we are not afraid to flaunt what we have and what our families earned. It is rather hypocritical of them.”
Murphy: “And yet, they judge us for flaunting what we have. It would be class warfare, except for the fact they are self-hating rich people, which is sort of sad.”
Krown shakes his head, making a noise that sounds likes “tsk, tsk, tsk”, that odd sound parents make when they are disappointed.
Krown: “Don’t tell us that you two are still living in the same neighborhood where you were born or driving the same cars or whatever the 99 percent is supposed to do. We know what we make and unless you have some sort of drug addiction or gambling problems no one knows about, or you have a lot of ex-wives or kids, then you should be making some money. I really doubt you are donating it to a lot of charities or throwing it out of the window whenever you drive down the street. Yeah, we doubt very much that you are poor.”
Murphy: “You two claim to be men of the people, but really gentlemen, you are in that one percent, the upper tax bracket. So do not stand there and try to pretend to be the common man when you are making millions in contract and royalties. After all, we know what we make, and you two are champions and that means you get a bigger check. No, I doubt you two are really worrying about things like affordable health care, feeding your children because the government shut down or anything the “common man” you so identify with are worrying about.”
Krown: “Admit it, you are rich and it is a good feeling. You have a lot of money and nice stuff and you like it. Stop trying to be these men of the people because the people know you are not. They see you up there and while they cheer you, they know you are like any other professional athlete. Now maybe you are not getting paid millions to do what any kid in the US could be doing and doing better like basketball, hockey or baseball players, but you are making money like they do. We’re more like NASCAR and such, a little more specialized, but less strikes and walk-offs because we feel we need more money due to the cost of living. Maybe you don’t need a giant mansion, seventeen cars and four swimming pools, but you just a guy trying to make it in this rough world. Yeah, you are just like the common man, if the common man was rich.”
Murphy: “You two are new money, trying to cling to anything that keeps you grounded in the past. We do not have that issue. We are what you call old money. And that makes us better than you on a social standing. The poor will always resent the rich and the new money will always resent those born into the worlds and standing they wish to attain, but can never do because of their birth.”
Krown: “You two are hypocrites, plain and simple. You make a lot of money, but try to convince yourself you just two guys struggling to make ends meet, which dsoesn’t sound too challenging when you make about a million or so from television, pay-per-view bonuses and royalties. Yeah, you are the common man. At least we are honest about who and what we are.”
Murphy: “We can say the same for NewGen Rising.”
Krown: “Sure it sounds like a boy band, or some sort of comic book, but at least they got to be number one contenders for the Tag Team Championships BEFORE The Unforgiven, and that’s something.”
Murphy: “Honestly, we have no idea who is even in NewGen Rising. There are like three or four stables here in APW and not one of them have done anything really.”
Krown has a thoughtful look on his face and shakes his finger.
Krown: “Well, I think Tommy Knox won the Overdrive Championship. And I think Chis Madison won a title.”
Murphy: “Is there even a Black Hand stable anymore?”
The younger second generation Krown shrugs.
Krown: “I have no idea. I think it went the way of the Sindicate and New Sindicate. Those both died down pretty fast, like right after they started up I think. Come to think of it, I am not even sure if NewGen Rising is a stable or a tag team. I mean Dying Breed I think technically was a stable at one point, but that sort of fizzled out. Although I think the two Sindicates outlasted the League or whatever that was. That thing was over before it started.”
Murphy: “I really don’t know either. Stables seem to come and go here. No one has built one that really dominates for awhile now.”
Looking downward towards the stairs leading up to the Hall of Supreme, Krown shakes his head.
Krown: “So very sad.”
Murphy: “Now NewGen Rising, Hollywood, Savage, we have no personal issues with you. We really just want to win, or at the very least see the Dying Breed knocked down a peg. Honestly, I can not even imagine why you would show up to this match. I am not saying that because you stand no chance of winning. I am saying that because not showing up makes it a two-on-four handicap match and thus gives you a better chance of seeing either Anthony Bailey or J-Hop taken out before One Night in Hell. It’s just a smart move.”
Krown: “Or, and this is an even better move, we just scrap the whole thing and start beating the hell out of Dying Breed. We get the satisfaction of doing it, and you and he Unforgiven get the chance to weaken, and maybe even eliminate, them before One Night in Hell. It is a win-win.”
Murphy: “There is logic there. However, we are pretty sure you will want to actually try and wrestle and win to gain some momentum for One night in Hell. We are a lot a like in that we are young, arrogant and hungry to prove ourselves. Sooner or later, one of us is going to do that. Just don’t take it personally when we say that we hope it is us and not you.”
Krown: “It is like Highlander in that “there can be only one”. We just want to be the one.”
Murphy takes his sunglasses off. He looks rather determined.
Murphy: “On the outside looking in. That is how we have been described a few times. Our time is coming. One Night in Hell may see NewGen Rising or Unforgiven become champions, or it may see Dying Breed retain. Either way, we are going to be waiting in the wings, waiting for our shot. One Night in Hell may not be our time, but it is coming and you can count on that, because that is Murphy’s Law.”
Krown: “And when it happens, it is Checkmate.”
Murphy: “We are Sang Réal.”
Murphy puts his sunglasses back on. Krown smiles a very eager smile.
Krown: “And our time is coming.”
