Biography: Anthony Reese Bailey was born in Tampa, FL on July 17, 1990 to an African American father and to a mother of Caucasian and Native American ethnicity. His father owns a construction business and his mother is a budget analyst for the federal government. His parents divorced when he was four years old, so he was raised by his mother in the affluent Westchase suburban community in Tampa. Bailey attended Calvary Christian High School in Clearwater and graduated in 2008. Having spent his entire life in Tampa, he chose to attend Flagler College in St. Augustine on an academic scholarship where he majored in Marketing and minored in Journalism, graduating magna cum laude in 2011. While at Calvary Christian, he dually enrolled at Hillsboro Community College to help him get a feel for the college environment and to finish his academic career earlier than expected.
Since he was a child, Bailey had enjoyed competing in numerous sports. This didn't fully come to fruition until his high school years as he participated in both basketball and wrestling. He excelled at both sports, but eventually devoted more time to wrestling because he didn't want to become the stereotypical young black male whose life goal was to be great at basketball and one day enter the NBA. Wrestling was also a significant part of his childhood as he clearly remembers his father taking him many times to see some of his favorite wrestlers live when they came to town. Bailey also dons a small scar on his left wrist from a broken bone he had received on his enclosed trampoline in a "backyard federation" he and a few of his friends had started back in middle school.
While in college, Bailey spent every waking moment of his free time volunteering with the Florida Amateur Wrestling Association, a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization. This stifled his social life but Bailey established a great working relationship with a couple of the wrestlers and the owner Frank "The Tank" Cavalli, who is still his mentor to this day, and had begun to observe and take in everything he could about the sport. Shortly after graduating from Flagler College, Bailey turned down a full time job with a well-known company that would have earned him $80,000 a year. He does not regret his decision because he had decided to chase his passion of becoming a professional wrestler.
Bailey made his official debut at the APW Asylum Supershow on January 1, 2012 in New Orleans, Louisiana against wrestling veteran Johnny Rebel. Although the dedicated rookie came up short, his in-ring showing was phenomenal and he impressed many. Only two and half months later he defeated Chaz Dillinger on March 25, 2012 at the biggest pay per view of the year Rasslemania VIII in Indianapolis, Indiana to become the Tap Out Champion. July 8, 2012 was one of the biggest nights of The Promise's career thus far as he and Jason Cashe fought in a brutal Lumberjack Match but Bailey, against all odds, defeated him to become the World Heavyweight Champion at the pay per view event Test For The Best in Chicago, Illinois.
On the November 8, 2012 edition of Overdrive, there was a fall out between Noble-Hart, the APW Tag Team Champions, and the end result was the splitting of the team and the titles becoming vacant. A Tag Team Title Tournament was held on Meltdown and at Christmas Chaos on December 23, 2012 in New York City, Anthony Bailey and good friend Jair Hopkins defeated M&M and Roy Speede & Donald Deruty in a triple threat falls count anywhere tag team elimination match to become the APW Tag Team Champions.
On the November 19, 2012 edition of Monday Night Meltdown, Bailey along with Jair "J-Hop" Hopkins and Germaine "Krunk" Williams formed a stable called The Dying Breed in hopes of re-establishing the characteristic of integrity throughout the wrestling business. Due to personal reasons, Krunk had to leave APW and his spot was replaced by wrestling newcomer "The Smooth One" William D. Williams on the January 8, 2013 edition of Asylum in Manchester, England.
Bailey made history once again at Rasslemania IX on March 24, 2013 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada when he and Hopkins won a triple threat tag team match against M&M and Sex and the Kitty to become two time APW Tag Team Champions. Bailey’s last time wrestling before APW closed its doors later that year was at Rasslemania X in a match against longtime rival Jason Cashe and Cashe was the better man that night. After APW closed, Bailey had a brief stint in PURE Wrestling with Jair Hopkins. PURE’s doors didn’t stay open for long and though Bailey was courted by various companies such as 4CW and EXODUS, he took a long needed break and began pursuing his MBA at the University of North Florida in the summer of 2014.
