When APW folded, Branden Harvey became a shell of a man. He had already left, due to a spinal injury, but the closing of APW was the final nail in the coffin of his wrestling career. There was now no doubt “Supersonic” Branden Harvey would never fly again.
Branden Harvey’s time in APW left him incredibly wealthy. In the time since, he spiraled into a depression. Due to a fit of rage caused by the depression, his wife, Lisa, left him and took their two kids, James and Mackenzie, with her. There was a court order that Branden Harvey could never see his kids again. The depression worsened.
One day, he found himself on top of the Harvey Manor, with a gun to his head. He wanted to end it all. Thank God he forgot to load the gun. While he was looking for his misplaced ammo, Branden Harvey realized he was going about the situation all wrong. He needed to choose to be happy. He needed to find something to fill that void wrestling and his family used to fill.
The formerly straight edge found two things to fill that void, alcohol and women. But, even though it made him forget his depression for a minute, there was always those late night tears, when he was alone. Then, Branden Harvey saw an announcement that excited him.
Johnny Rebel showed up on a press conference and announced that APW would be reopening. Branden Harvey rolled that thought around his head. APW would be reopening. If he just didn’t have this pesky spinal injury… Maybe…
Wrestling is his life. Branden Harvey doesn’t care if he gets paralyzed. He doesn’t care if he dies. He wants… no… Branden Harvey needs to wrestle. It was a simple matter to bribe the APW doctors to give him a full bill of health and make it a reality that “Supersonic” Branden Harvey would fly again. But first, there was the matter of the ALS Charity Ball.
[The scene opens at the ALS Charity Ball. An elderly woman walks on stage.]
Elderly Woman: Attention, everybody. I have a special announcement. Would Branden Harvey please step forward?
[Branden Harvey’s date, Madison, makes a remark.]
Madison: Branden Harvey? Why… that’s you, Branden.
Branden: If I’m not, the check I gave to ALS will bounce. Don’t go away, baby. I’ll be right back.
[Branden Harvey gives Madison a kiss before walking on stage.]
Elderly Woman: As fund-raising chairwoman, I’d like to announce that we will get a lot more done to cure ALS, thanks to Branden Harvey, who donated this check for $100,000.
[There are wows in the crowd and someone yells for three cheers. After the “Hip Hip Hoorays,” Branden Harvey grabs the microphone.]
Branden: Thanks. But there’s no need for applause. I have an announcement. On July 26, 2015, I will return to wrestling. I will be wrestling on a special Sunday night edition of APW Friday Night Deception. I will be wrestling against Devin Richards. And I will be donating the money I make from the match to ALS. Not for applause, but for the good the money will do.
[The people cheer as Branden Harvey walks off stage.]
[Later, as Branden Harvey is dancing with Madison, she asks him a question.]
Madison: So Lady Killer Harvey is really just a softie at heart? He supports charitable causes and still finds time to wrestle?
Branden: Careful, cutie. You’ll show everyone my halo.
Madison: But Branden, I wish your other activities didn’t keep you too busy to think of… passion.
Branden: Hmmm… I think I can spare a few minutes for so worthy a cause.
[And so, as they’re driving to Harvey Manor, Madison decides to ask another question.]
Madison: Do you mind a personal question, Branden?
Branden: Sure. Why not?
Madison: Do you ever intend to fall in love and get married?
Branden: Honey, no girl would ever marry an absentee husband. Think of all that time I spend wrestling all over the world. Then there’s my charities, autograph signings, and personal appearances, and also all that time I have to take to prepare for my matches. I have to watch film, analyze my opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, so I can take advantage of it in the ring. I also have to make those damn promo videos for apw.com, which are very important. Nobody in APW has ever won if they didn’t make a promo video. Unless you count Mr. Dangerous, who just abounds in luck. Now I ask you honestly, with all this work, do you think I have time to settle down and get married?
Madison: Hush, darling. When the right girl comes along (which I hope is me) you’ll make time and settle down. Let’s go inside.
[Madison gives Branden a kiss as they pull up to Harvey Manor]
[The next morning, as Madison is leaving Harvey Manor, she inquires again.]
Madison: When will I see you again, dearest?
Branden: Next time I’m in town, honey. I’m about to go on the road for a very long time. But I guess you can see me on TV, if you tune in July 26 to APW Friday Night Deception… on Sunday night.
[Madison gives Branden one last goodbye kiss as the scene fades.]
[The scene opens at a Naval Air Force base in San Diego, CA. “Supersonic” Branden Harvey stands on top of the John C. Stennis aircraft carrier.]
Branden: Devin Richards, I am here today to learn about military service. I understand you were an Army Ranger and, when I read that, I respected the hell out of you for it. I have the utmost respect for anyone that wears a uniform to represent our country. But, as I read your story, my respect for you disappeared in a burst of flames when I heard that you went AWOL. So forgive me if the rest of this promo isn’t quite as nice as the beginning.
Devin Richards, If you don’t respect our country enough to stay, after you had already volunteered, then I’m going to have to brand you a coward for life. Because, Devin, that’s exactly what you are.
Devin Richards, I don’t care what you accomplished in CPW or anywhere else. This is APW. I don’t care if you were trained by the great Terry Marvin. I respect the hell out of him but you and he are not the same. He’s a legend in this business and you’re just a drudge, looking for a handout.
Devin Richards, I don’t respect you. I don’t like you. And, as far as I’m concerned, you can go to hell. I have a feeling you’re going to be AWOL anyway.
