Nintendo Wii just got useful

So I recently learned that you can soft mod your Nintendo Wii so that it can play burnt Wii games without having to put in a mod chip.

so Yesterday, I set up my Wii so I can play Burnt games and so far it works perfectly. Only thing that sucks is that you need to download the games from Torrent sites, and with most, if not all games being over 4GB, it takes a while if no one is seeding the file.

anyways, if you got a Wii, A DVD Burner and an SD Card, I can hook you up with the guide that I used to do this. But do this at your own risk because one fuck up can really screw up your Wii, so do your research first

Can you be any more oblivious? Nintendo's sales are through the roof and they sell more systems and games then either PS3 or XBox 360 and you know why? Convenience. It's a simple family system that dominates in sales. Each system dominates one particular trait in the four corners of the gamers market. Playstation is your RPG system while XBox comes second under the wii for it's first person shooters. As for the Wii? Simple enough, already said it. Family system and might I had a party system. It is THE ultimate party savior system in existence for kids under 14 and adults 20 and up. The in between dominates the Xbox for it's shooter games such as halo, gears, and etc. To say one system has crappy games or to judge a system in comparison with another is straight up fanboyism. You don't like the games? Fine, your not like the millions of other nintendo users who simply play it for the party save. It's an entertaining system, and a "fun" one might I add. Most "real gamers" can't take it serious though because it only has a handful of "serious" games for it.

Well, most market research says that most wii owners buy maybe 1 or 2 games a year at most, if any after wii sports. The numbers for X-Box 360 and PS3 owners are a bit higher, so there is some truth to what Cyrus is saying. Also, the aggregate review scores for wii games scews a lot lower than PS3 and X-Box 360. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the wii, because it seems like a big step back in terms of the complexity of the games, Metroid and Zelda notwithstanding. I had one for about a year, but sold it after I got bored with Super Smash Bros. Melee, and saw that there wasn't really anything interesting coming out for the foreseeable future.

Family has nothing to do with it big guy. It's all about the cost. Nobody wants to pay more for the ps3 because most people just view it as a game system. What they fail to understand is that the ps3 is also an internet browser, a FREE online service, a Blu-ray player, store music, videos, pictures, and so much more. When people think the Wii is just a game system...They're right. It's the cheepest, so more family's will buy it for their kids. And you're wrong about the Wii being most family friendly. The family settings on Xbox Live are the best out of all the game systems. And I wish less 8 year old kids played COD. Their voices are so annoying, but it just goes to show how "family friendly" the Xbox is. It goes like this in rankings:

1. Xbox 360
2. ps3
3. Wii

If you really think about it. The Wii isn't that much cheaper than a PS3 or X-Box. Like if you think about it, Once you buy the Wii, and then all the little accessories that come with it (Classic controler, extra Wii mote AND NunChuk, also a bunch of plastic baseball bat, Tennis racket, ect) It pretty much comes out to the same thing. The added stuff isn't needed, but when you got parents who don't know this, they'll buy anything for their kids. My boss got a Wii got his family and he was all excited when he found out for 30$ he could buy the sports pack thing (Baseball bat, golf club and Tennis Racket)

The Only reason I got a Wii was mainly for Zelda and Mario games. Anything else after that was a bonus.

And John, heres the Guide I used to Mod my Wii. Make sure you follow every step exactly. It may a while to do, so I suggest you do it when you have a hour or 2 to kill

To joe: you couldn't possibly say family has nothing to do with it. To be fair a family is a large chunk of the reason but not possibly simply nothing. Look at the media when it comes to theses games. Playstation and Xbox have always advertised in a more serious 16 and up kind of way despite the 8 year olds you see playing cod. Nintendo has build an empire out of having colorful characters, happy endings, and fun for everyone games. it would be stupid of them not to. To get into a cock fight with ps and xbox over serious gaming would be idiotic, they would lose money. Their basically on the side lines calling in all kids and families while systems such as xbox and ps have "those" kinds of games where adults buy their kids the system because they want it but they (the parents) can never really get into it because of its complexity. Example, my own father. Loved to game with me back in the day. played all the n64 classics, mastered Starcraft, but i could never get him to play a ps game except for metal gear 1 on the ps 1 and madden (insert year here). And another thing, "families" in general like when they hang out to do there family thing or when its a party or what ever, care about facing or playing with the guy/girl next to them. When their alone they might want to go online but in terms of online play, Xbox IS online play, enough said. PS3 comes close to Xbox but no cigar. only reason why people say ps is better is because they dont have to "pay".

To jeff: Even after buying all of that shit for the wii, you'll still end up spending more on an xbox alone. lets not even talk about buying the elite. Regular xbox with hard drive= 300 dollars. wireless internet= 100 dollars (free for wii and ps3). 4 wireless controllers= 200 dollars. You've already spent 600 dollars to get your system looking like everyone elses. Spend 100 and you've got the elite. 50 dollars a year for internet access. Lets not forget the batteries for each controller. 2 double AA's each. A wired controller is only 10 bucks less. Playstation? you get the 40 gig and you will regret it. 60 is no longer an option I think. 80 will be around 400. however i heard there about to start doing some major price cuts and the rumored ps3 slim version may come into play soon. Still your ps3 is gonna heat up and sound like fucking blow drier so its best to invest in a cooling system. Those are your standard protocol purchases. All that other wii attachment shit isn't always bought and is totally not needed. Standard purchas for wii, 4 wii motes, 4 nun chucks. net is free, grips are pointless. *deep breath*

Zero, if Wii wanted to, they could EASILY beat the Xbox AND ps3 in 16 and up games. Or maybe I should say say they could've. You see, when the Wii decided not to be in 1080p, they pretty much fucked themselves over. Know why? Because nobody wants to play silly little cartoon games. Kids these days want to shoot each other. Kids these days want to drive a car off a mountain and see it blow up. Kids these days want to see gangsters, swearing, and sex. That's just the way America has been influenced, and we all have to deal with that for now. No longer do kids want to play "Rescue The princess in a cartoon violence way." They want to play "Go get that bitch that owes you money by slaughtering everyone in your way."

The point is, if the Wii had some decent shooters, it would sell more than it does now. ALOT more. And family? I don't know family that gathers the whole gang around the TV and just has a big ol' ball playing the Wii together. If you know of one, they have got to be the whitest family in the world.

The Wii sells because it is cheeper. End of story.

okay joe, I'm not going to get on the topic of what family actually plays together. Not even going to express how my HISPANIC family is obviously not white, let alone talk about what the problem would be if they were white. Since they got the wii i havent played with them since the first week thanks to a little thing called work. Getting back on topic, you've got to be kidding me. Sorry man, no offense but you cant judge what the population wants by whats around you. The people that actually care for gaming, the actual gamers playing shooters with a lot of time that can afford to write in forums explaining why a game is good and etc are not the only people playing. If mom and pop like a game, there not going to write a letter to game informers, forums, or any place video game related to express it so your obviously not getting all the counts when you go online and see the ratings of the games. In today's generation parents are slowly beginning to care about what there kids plays. I don't like it but they are. Can't even buy a mature video game without your parents being there to check it out at game stop. One more reason why I shopped at Play and Trade more often. Look man, all because you dont know any body who gathers around a wii or any station just to play doesn't mean it aint out there and happening a lot. Can't express how upsetting it is to be classified as "the white fucking family out there" but just think for a freaking moment. Why would Nintendo advertise there system as the family fun system if no one uses it for that? Could they make a few good shooters for wii? I've got an Xbox 360, Wii and a PC.

PC is mine, Xbox is my son's, and the Wii is ours as a family.

We have a great time with the Wii, as we can all play. The Xbox is great, but personaly it's more of a me vs the AI kind of thing. The pc is where I watch my porn.

I'm not going to get into a system war with you Zero. You don't have to admit it, but the Wii is the worst next-gen system. It's shit. Garbage. Maybe if you like cartoon games it's decent. The sad thing though is that the system's best game comes with fucking system. The Xbox is the best family system AND all around system. Sorry chief, but I own all three and I can tell you first hand. Ask anyone else who owns all three and they'll tell you Xbox is the best, and the Wii is the worst. Senior joe, I'm not getting into a debat on which system is better. I already got into that debat before and its annoying. I never said the wii is the best, While all the other systems are viewed highly, I'm trying to even the views. Each system covers every aspect of the market (This in mind, for the people out there who cares, this means the sega system will NEVER come back and why would that?). I've got all three systems myself and obviously a computer. All I'm saying is you cant' disregard the wii as the worst when it covers what XBox and ps3 doesnt have (yet) just like how Xbox covers what wii and Ps3 doesnt have and just like how ps3 covers what xbox and wii doesnt have. If the system is bough just as much as the Xbox and the playstation, played just as much and in groups, and has some features, titles, and games other guys/kids/retro fans the other two systems have then statistcally/logically speaking, the wii is on par with the other two systems. Hard core gamers will never admit to this but its true. To be honest i use to not want anything to do with the wii until my dad won it in his business contest which kind of goes to show that its a cheap enough system to give away in raffles and such. For me, the sports games suck along with the wii fit shit but some games they do have that are pretty damn good (Mad World/Zelda/online retro games/Mario). Maybe not as ground breaking today like games such as halo 3 and insert shooter here but it is fun nonetheless. Personally and I know a guy or two here who would be happy to hear this, I enjoy the ps3 more then the other systems but again thats just my own opinion. Has some great games and covers the RPG section of gaming quite well which is better for me because I'm not much of a shooter kind of guy.

If you want to play any game, at least 50,000 people will be playing it. I played UFC for the ps3 once, and it took me a good half hour to find a match. And that's a popular game. And sure, our online isn't free, but online for ps3 sucks.

This was a thread about "The wii getting useful" and now its going to be a debate about which is better, ps3 or xbox. Well fuck that and fuck this. Xbox has the best shooters in the world hands down, PS3 has the greatest RPG's ever, Xbox has the highest competitive online games, PS3 has an actual web browser you can go on to look up internet stuff, Xbox has a point system, so does the PS3, Xbox has the red ring of death, PS3 weights a 152 pounds, Xbox has HD, PS3 has Blue Ray, Blue ray is better but Xbox actually needs high resolution more. Both can play its older games from older systems, PS3 has more older games to offer, Xbox has more newer games to offer. It's split right down the fucking middle. Let this be the end of it.

the ps3 has one thing where your games never load. I had to buy a new one because they wouldn't fix it for me. If something happens to my xbox, i get a new one for free.
