I attended a WWE RAW house show this past Saturday, and I enjoyed the matches that happened. And it got me thinking. When I was young, I was a HUGE wrestling fan. I was really hardcore into it from Grade 6 to Grade 12. So Basically from November 1997 to September 2004. During the Attitude era, I would watch Raw, Smackdown, Nitro, thunder, ECW, WCW Saturday Night, Sunday Night Heat. Bacially, the way it worked out, I would watch wrestling every single day. I would play the video games for countless hours and not get tired of them. I would buy merchendise when ever I could. If I missed a show or PPV, I would avoid everyone who has seen it just so I wouldn't be spoiled when I did get to see it. I would go to school and tell people to take their text books, shine them up real nice, turn it side ways and stick it straight up their candy ass.
I know the product now isn't as good as it once was. I don't know if its becaus I was younger and it was easier for me to mark out or what, but I go to indy shows and I enjoy it more than watching WWE on TV.
So I got thinking. What's different between now and then. And personally for me, I think its the Internet. The fact that you can pretty much get spoilers for upcoming shows, title changes, wrestlers returning, wrestlers backstage at events, results for taped shows. You find out someone is getting suspended so you know their gonna lose.
So I'm thinking of doing a little experiment and cut out daily Wrestling rumor sites out of the websites a check out every day. I'm thinking, if I don;t know what's gonna happen, I may just enjoy the show better. My only source of Wrestling news would be wwe.com.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to do this, but I am considering it. The only wrestling I watch is the first hour and a half of raw (I usually fall asleep towards the last 30mins) and I'll watch TNA between commericals, and half the time its a commercial.
My Goal for this experiement would be to be able to enjoy wrestling again. Be at the point I once was that I needed to watch every show, and if I miss it, download it and watch it anyways. I want to watch a show and Mark out when someone wins a belt, or when someone turns heel or returns out of no where.
I had to share this idea of mine, what does everyone think about it. Good idea, bad idea. Am I wasiting my time.
