Darren Harvey & Johnny Chase are on hand calling this the action at an APW House Show in Houston, Tx.
DH: Okay folks! This next match involves two new superstars to the APW, here tonight to compete in, of all things.. a ladder match?!?
JC: Yeah, one of their agents spoke with APW higher up’s and requested this match be a no disqualification, ladder match with an APW contract hanging overhead!
DH: Well, then to the victor goes the spoils! Let’s go to ringside!!!
ANNOUNCER: Ladies & Gentlemen! The following match is a Ladder Match for a contract with the APW!!!
The crowd pops.
ANNOUNCER: Introducing first, coming down the aisle weighing in at 267 lbs. he is Dawg Dooley!
No music is played as a Caucasian man standing about 6’6” stalks down the rampway and climbs into the ring to a few claps from the crowd, as he raises his hands and beats his chest.
DH: Certainly an imposing figure this Dooley!
JC: M’eh…
ANNOUNCER: And his opponent!
The lights flicker and all goes dark for a few moments, suddenly it is heard...
"ONE TWO THREE - HERE I COME WITH THE WICKED!"
"Just Got Wicked" by COLD plays out over the entire arena as Cid Phoenix - dressed in a long, bulky black leather duster stands at the top of the rampway, accompanied by his manager - Liz, dressed in a gothic black dress and high New Rock boots. Making their way towards the ring, he slides snake-like beneath the ring ropes, before getting up and holding the ropes for Liz, who climbs underneath and leans back against Cid in a provocative pose. She then turns and caresses his face, leans in close and whispers words of encouragement, before kissing him good luck & exiting the ring. Cid then raises the ropes for her to leave the ring, and sits in a corner of the ring, awaiting his opponent.
DH: This crowd not showing much enthusiasm over these two new superstars..
JC: Well, who the hell ARE they, Darren? I for one don’t even know who!
DH: Well, in any case, Johnny- the referee’s gonna call for the bell and gets this one started…
DING! DING!
Dooley charges quick and nails Cid with a running boot to the head, sending him to the outside. Cid smacks facefirst onto the floor outside, as Dooley laughs and goes to the opposite side of the ring, where he searches underneath the ring, pulling out a ladder.
JC: Holy crap! Did you see that? Dawg Dooley just kicked Cid Phoenix clear outta the ring, and he’s got a ladder!
DH: If Cid doesn’t do anything quick, this one could very well be over!
Dolley slides the ladder under the ring ropes, and follows it in. Getting up onto his feet, he executes a hand wash gesture before setting up the ladder and showboating to the crowd. He starts to climbthe ladder when out from seemingly nowhere, Cid bounds the corner turnbuckle and hits the ladder with a single leg missile dropkick that sends both the big man and the ladder crashing to the floor.
JC: Geez, this guy’s quick as a cockroach!
DH: But Dooley’s getting back up and he looks to be quite angry, John!
Dooley goes to grab Phoenix who does a forward roll, positioning himself behind Dooley, before nailing him in the knee with a dropkick. Dooley stumbles forward, but maintains his footing, as Cid runs to the opposite side of the ropes and baseball slides under the now awaiting Dooley, who turns around and gets nailed in the kisser with a running calf kick. Dooley stumbles back a few paces, as Phoenix lays into him with a punch-chop-kick combo, ducking underneath a clothesline to low kick at the bigger man’s knee. Dooley suddenly grabs Phoenix by the throat and lifts him high up into the air.
JC: Look at the power of Dawg Dooley, lifting Cid into the air.
DH: This doesn’t look good!
But suddenly, Liz gets up on the apron and starts yelling at the referee. Dooley notices this and drops Cid, storming over to take a swipe at Liz, who drops down from the apron. The referee holds him back as he goes back and forth, arguing with Liz. He goes back to turn around, when Cid Phoenix jumps up and catches him in a three quarter facelock, dropping down onto his back and using the momentum of the move to take Dooley down with him.
JC: Oh my God! What the hell was that!
DH: I don’t know, John..But it took the big man down!
Cid staggers back against the ropes, catching his breath. Meanwhile, Dooley shakes the cobwebs and gets up, snarling at Cid, he rushes at him in an attempt to catch him with a double axe handle, but Cid charges out of the corner and cathes the bigger man in a drop toe hold, sending him face-first onto the second turnbuckle.
JC: You know I had pegged Dooley to be the winner when I looked at how much bigger he was, but now I’m not so sure!
DH: Just goes to show that bigger isn’t always better, John!
Dooley goes down & rolls onto his back, leaning back against the bottom turnbuckle. Cid immediately runs to the opposite corner and climbs the turnbuckle, motioning for Liz, who quickly grabs the timekeeper’s bell and runs over to ringside, holding it up in front of Dooley’s face.
DH: What the hell’s this?!?
JC: Looks like Cid’s about to put Dooley’s lights out, Darren!
Phoenix leaps off of the opposite turnbuckle and executes another single leg dropkick into the bell sending it smacking hard aginst the skull of Dawg Dooley. Dooley slumps down to the mat, flat on his back as Cid gets up in pain and pumps his fist at the crowd.
DH: This crowd starting to warm up to Cid Phoenix!
JT: Well, yeah – I would think that they would after seeing what he just did!
Cid walks over and grabs the ladder propping it up. He climbs the ladder, reaching the top and is about to unhook the sheet of paper hanging suspended overhead, when he looks over and sees Liz, roll underneath the ring ropes, shaking her head and waving him to stop.
DH: What’s she doing now??
JT: Apparently she doesn’t want him to grab the contract, Darren.
DH: I know, but why??
The answer comes in the form of Liz gesturing the sign of the cross over a laid out Dooley, before raising her hands hig in the air, with a wicked smile. Cid nods to her and climbs to the very top of the ladder, awaiting her signal. Liz screams as she brings her arms down, just as Cid leaps from the very top of the ladder, executing a crooked backflip and crashing down upon Dawg Dooley.
BOOM!
DH: Oh My God! Did you hear that?!?
JC: Hear it?? I felt that impact!
The crowd pops chiming in with chants of ‘Holy Shit’, as Cid gets up holding his ribs. He kisses Liz on the lips, then climbs the ladder as she looks on and claps, finally reaching the top and unhooking the paper to the sound of the bell.
DING! DING! DING!
ANNOUNCER: Here is your winner, and new APW Rookie! CIIIIID PHHHHHOOEEEEEEEEENIIIIIIIIIXXXX!!!
The crowd pops wild, as Cid makes his way down from the ladder with the paper in his hand. The ref raises his hand as he holds his ribs, and then puts his arm around Liz, kissing her once more before holding the ring ropes open for her, then exiting after her. The two then celebrate up the rampway, making their way to the top of the stage where they stand side by side, raise their hands in victory, then disappear behind the curtains.
DH: That was one helluva debut by Cid Phoenix
JC: I think the guy may be crazy doing moves like that!
Inside the ring, EMT’s come to tend to Dooley, who after some smelling salt, manages to get up on his own two feet, albeit with a bad headache and tender ribcage, but the crowd applauds him as EMT’s help him up the rampway to the back. Dooley smiles as he waves to the appreciating crowd.
DH: Good thing he wasn’t seriously hurt, John!
JC: ‘Could’a fooled me by the looks of it!
DH: Lets go to commercial!
