Family Values: Oh, Spirit

["That Girl" Diana Lambardo]

The scene opens up in a parking garage in Manhattan. We see Diana Steel, eyes covered by Kenny Lambardo’s hands who is standing behind her as well as the rest of the Sex and Violence crew with the exception of Trevor. Fyre Angel was in front of them holding the handlebars of a beautiful silver motorcycle.

“You ready baby?” Kenny whispered into her ears.

“Yes! What is it already?!” He uncovered her eyes and her mouth went straight to the floor. “Oh….oh my God…this…this is the Harley-Davidson VRSC A V-Rod…”She inspected the bike like it was a priceless statue, circling it. Tony looked impressed that she knew what the bike was, but Kenny just smiled. “Two, four-valve cylinders of Pain! Oh my God Thank you!!!!” She ran and jumped on Kenny, wrapping around him.

“Well, I am God after all, what did you expect?” He put her down on the ground. “Well? It’s all gassed up, give it a go!” He slapped her encouragingly on the ass and she ran over to the bike, straddling it and revving the engine.

“I’m gonna go see my little girl!” She was grinning wide as she sped down the spiral of the parking garage and weaved around traffic and APW lost sight of her and cut to a very strange break.



APW cuts back in with Diana swerving into another parking lot on her new HD V-Rod. She locked it up and flashed her butterfly knife at the camera as a sort of warning before entering the building. Inside waiting for her was Trevor and the little angel standing barely as high as his legs.

“Mommy!” The screaming sound made Diana’s heart flutter and her mouth spread into a wide grin. She dropped to her knees and the sound echoed through the room as Skylar ran toward her. When she reached her arms they embraced and Diana repeatedly kissed the top of her beautiful head.

“Oh, baby Mommy missed you so much.” Trevor stood solemnly on the other side of the room smiling at this sight.

“Are you feeling better Mommy? Daddy said you were sick but you’re better now right?”

“Of course baby, I’m better and I’m so glad to see you again.”

Then Skylar went off on one of those familiar childlike rantings. “You missed a lot mommy! I’ve been all over the place with Daddy and uncle Kenny and Aunt Kristina!” That last part made Diana shutter a little bit, but she got over it.

“Tell me all about it sweetness.” Diana lifted Skylar up onto her shoulders as Skylar rambled on, telling her mom all the cool stories she could think of. Trevor walked over to them now and put a hand on Diana’s back as if to say “We both missed you” and then moved his hand up to hold his daughter’s hand as they paced around the room, looking like a real family for the first time in a long time. Out of courtesy and lack of entertainment, APW cut to yet another strange and unusual break.



When APW came back, Skylar was sitting on her father’s lap and Diana was sitting across from them, playing patty-cake with her. Their song and play was interrupted by a bleep on Diana’s Nextel, followed by a hauntingly familiar voice.

::Bleep:: Hey, hey Diana where you at girl? ::Bleep::

Diana was frozen in shock but Skylar spoke up. “Aunt Spirit! Aunt Spirit!” That snapped Diana out of it and she picked up the phone.

::Bleep:: Spirit? ::Bleep::

::Bleep:: You bet girl! What’s with goin about signing with a new fed and not cluing me in right away??? ::Bleep::

::Bleep:: oh Christ…Spirit…Come and see your Goddaughter!!!::Bleep::

::Bleep:: Sure thing, but where? ::Bleep::

As Diana gave Spirit directions and Skylar jumped up and down in pure excitement Trevor stood up, a little at arms.

::Bleep:: I’ll see ya soon girl. ::Bleep:: and Diana put the phone down, noticing Trevor’s expression.

“Oh boy, what’s up Trev?”

“Nothing. Look, I’m going to go and find Kenny he and I need to discuss some things. Besides, no reason my little girl can’t see her Godmother right?” His words had a bad aftertaste and Diana guessed that something was up but for now she couldn’t help it.

When Spirit walked in Skylar ran to her the same way she ran to her mother, latching onto her. “Were you sick to Spirit? Mommy was sick!”

She laughed. “No, not exactly sweetheart. I was just far away taking care of some things love.”

Diana walked over to the two of them and gave Spirit a huge hug. “Oh boy, missed you girl.”

“Missed you too.” They hugged for a moment before Spirit decided to sideswipe Diana’s leg, catching her off guard and bringing her on her back to the ground. Diana laughed.

“What, trying to prove you still got it?” And with that she kicked Spirit’s legs out from under her, bringing her to her back on the ground as well. Wanting to join in on the fun, Skylar did a kind of belly flop onto Diana’s stomach, knocking the wind out of her. “It’s good to be back here.” Diana said as the three of them lay there, laughing.

I burst into a fit of the giggles when Skyler belly flopped across Diana, something that I had not had much cause to do in the past couple of years. I nodded my head when Diana said that it was good to be back here, noticed that Skyler was still across Diana and flipped onto my stomach, giving a fast referee's three count, quick enough that Diana didn't quite realise what was happening before giving her my best shiteating grin as Skyler jumped about chanting 'I beat mummy', “I hear you have an important match at Rasslemania, you'll want to do better than that.”

Diana stuck her tongue out, “Well hopefully, the ref won't be giving Sabur a fast count the first chance he gets. I call foul play.”

I laughed and helped her into a sitting position being as she was still out of breath after the divebombing toddler. It hadn't taken long for us to get to the rough and tumble and to be acting as we had back when we ran amok in the WWC, whether that was in jumping on random camera men (more Diana's area of mischief-making, I ran into them and threatened to harder if they didn't leave us alone) or slipping hormone pill's into some schmuk's smoothie. We just sat there for a moment, glad to be able to just laugh and be ourselves.

I stretched my shoulders to work away the bump that I had taken when Diana brought me to the ground, I drew my knees to my chest and leaned my elbows on them, asking faux-casually, “Would that be a Harley Davidson VRSC A V-Rod I saw in the drive?”

Diana beamed, “Yes'm, Kenny brought it for me today, and I needed to see my little girl, so I thought hey, let's take the beast for a spin.” She looked at me for a moment with a raised eyebrow, “Talking about bikes, yours sounded louder than usual. Been upgrading your Ducati?”

I shrugged my shoulders, “Mah baby got totalled when I had that accident, so...I used a few contacts, managed to get hold of an Airwaves Ducati from a couple seasons back, one paintjob later...” I gave another of my smirks, “Nought to sixty in under three seconds, top speeds at a hundred seventy, course, they limited the engine before they actually gave it me, but you know men, give them a blonde femme and they think they don't know their way around an engine.” Diana snorted at that, knowing that situation all too well considering what the mechanics had tried to get away with when I took my old bike in for a service.” I shrugged my shoulders, a light challenge in my voice, “We should find somewhere quiet some time and open them up.” Running part of the conversation through my brain again, I quirked an eyebrow of my own, “So, you and Kenny getting on ok again?” The last I'd known, it they were fairly far from.
