Knew the deadline was today, just didn't know what time. My fault on that. Here's what should have gone up though.
“Have you ever been so good at something you love, that you stop doing it because you're bored with it?”
Long silver and black basketball shorts and a wifebeater soaked in sweat. After a long workout, this is normally what you will see one of Action Packed Wrestling's newest signing wearing. He runs his left hand across his forehead, wiping away the perspiration that slowly beaded up on his brow in preparation of a quick journey down the side of his face.
“As much as I hate to admit it, that has pretty much been the story of my life.”
Unless you've lived in Central Texas the last few months, the good looks and short blond hair are not going to be a familiar site. Unlike the other two Mega Stars signed, Zachary Rodell is a virtual unknown... He'll be the first to tell you that it is something you shouldn't put much focus on.
“You really can't compare high school accomplishments to something like this though. I mean, for the most part I was competing against a bunch of kids that didn't have the drive and heart that I did to succeed.”
He grimaced, his lips curling into a slight frown.
“That didn't sound right at all.”
He tilted his head slightly, as if looking around something.
“You think we could start this over, that didn't...”
A shake of his head as a slight sigh escapes his lips, cutting off his own words mid-sentence.
“You know what, let's just move on. Where was... Oh yeah, success.”
Another sigh, and another swipe of his brow. Maybe the workout isn't the only thing causing Zach to sweat right now.
“I've had quite a bit of success in everything that I have put my mind, body, and soul into, and while this may be different than what I am used to... I plan on following the same routine – the same recipe – that has worked for me throughout my life.”
Confidence. The words coming out of his mouth are dripping with it as he becomes more and more comfortable in front of the camera.
“Am I going to stand here and tell you that I'm going to be holding the Undisputed title by the end of the month. As much as I'd like to set a goal like that and follow through with it... I don't think management is just going to give some young pup that just stepped off the porch to roll with the big dogs an opportunity like that without earning it first, but I will tell you that I wouldn't turn it away if it was.”
A sheepish grin danced across his lips, and his eyes lit up like the sky on the fourth of July.
“I'm not going to say I wouldn't pull it off either. It's just that... Well, I live in a place called reality, and opportunities like that just don't fall from a tree where I live. The opportunities that I do get though.”
The sheepish grin slowly grows into a wide smile.
“You better believe I don't plan on letting any of those slip through my fingers. No, if there is one thing that you will learn about me... It is that win, lose, or draw, I will leave everything I have in that ring. It doesn't matter if you've been in this business two weeks or two decades, I will not shy away from proving that I belong in that ring just as much as they do... If not more.”
The smile slowly fades away, and his demeanor... Well, it gets a tad bit more serious.
“And I start that off in my first match against Mr. Dangerous.”
When you take into consideration that the man – in it's loosest form of the word – that answers to that name would get carried away in a light summer breeze, most people would be hunched over laughing. Rodell's demeanor has not changed.
“I'm sure you're feeling real good about yourself right now. You perched yourself up on the second rope, leaned forward, stretched out your arms, and screamed “I'm on top of the world” so loud Leo is filing papers to sue you for stealing his schtick. I can't say that I blame you, since you have more victories than I've had matches right now.”
Zach allows a slight smile to curl itself on the corners of his lips as he pats his chest where his heart should be with his right hand.
“That feeling... It feels good doesn't it, to know that you went out there and did what no one else thought you ever could. Win.”
He nods his head.
“I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but there really is no other way to put it... Savor the moment, because it isn't happening again. Not when you step into the ring with me, at least. No, you see, that feeling you have right now. That's going to be me when I hear the referee's hand slap the mat three times after I plant you in the middle of the ring and hook that leg of yours.”
Confidence, not to be mistaken for cockiness, fills the air as Zachary continues to speak.
“I wish I could say good luck... Maybe even tell you to give it all you got, and not to give up... But all I would be doing is feeding you a dream you'll never get a chance to see become a reality, and that would actually be worse than what you already have coming to you and I'm not that kind of guy.”
Zach looks down, the first time since he started to speak that you cannot see his eyes.
“I'll leave that type of stuff to guys like Havok and Rebel, guys that think they are untouchable and a cut above the rest.”
Name drops for the win as he lifts his head and produces a smirk the size of Texas.
“But we'll just leave that conversation for another time. My actions speak a lot louder than my words anyhow.”
