"Sally Talfourd and Nathaniel Havok presents..."
is written across the screen, fades out, then
"In association with Action Packed Wrestling"
is written across the background, fades out to, well, quite a squished up shot. There's a low rumbling, and the lights are all but out. We're in an aeroplane, and there, squashed next to each other in two seats that are far too small are Sally and Havok. Yeah, they made it to the next town, got to the airport, and they've managed to wrangle the last two seats on the flight over to Charlottesville. Anyway, Sally sits there, fidgeting, looking at Havok (who's getting some sleep), looking away. Back at Havok. Finally, she nudges him. No response. Harder nudge and Havok begins to stir.
[Havok] What?
[Sally] I have to get by.
[Havok] What? Why?
[Sally] Really? *Havok looks to Sally, who points to the back of the plan. With a tired sigh, he stands up for her. She pushes by and then runs off back to the end of the plane. Some time passes, Havok not daring to get comfortable again lest Sally come back. Eventually Sally's back, lets out a relieved sigh as she sits, then watches her partner trying to get back to sleep* So...Charlottesville. *She's obviously bored* Any more thoughts about the match?
[Havok] Yeah...
[Sally] *Butts in* Oh good! So have I! Now that you're awake we could talk some more about, you know, strategy? Moves, signs, important points of the match?
[Havok] It's simple: We go out. Wrestle. Win.
[Sally] Havok! We need this sorted. It'll give us an advantage against two of the best Asylum has.
Sally pulls his pillow out from under his head. Havok sits up, rolls his eyes, stares at Sally.
[Havok] Ok brightstuff. Have a plan?
[Sally] Yes! I do. Ok, now we know you're good at the at the heavy-lifting stuff, and I'm excellent at, you know, technical stuff. So here's what I'm thinking...
Sally's voice trails out as the scene starts to fade out. Do you think Sally would be so silly as to leave that stuff in the episode? Of course not! If BDC or Rico actually managed to turn a computer on, they might be lucky enough to find the episode. Then what? They've got a rundown of the tactics for Sally and Havok. The scene holds on a blank screen, then comes back, this time Sally and Havok dragging wheely-bags behind them as they walk up a long hallway. They're in the Clifton Inn- the best luxury hotel that, of course, APW houses their megastars in- searching for their rooms. Separate rooms, of course.
[Sally] Ok, tactics are worked out. Now, the dynamics.
[Havok] Dynamics?
[Sally] Yes! How we work together. That instinct that those great teams have. You don't just have it, you learn it. That's what will give us an advantage this week. What we have going for us is that we're trying to be a team. BDC and Rico? They know they won't be together again after our match. They have to get along for forty minutes or so. Us? We're making sure that we're building that foundation that all great teams have. We're looking out for each other. Taking care of each other. No one expects BDC to get along with Rico for five minutes! He wants his title. He's said it! Rico can't trust him, and BDC can't trust Rico. They aren't going to be able to handle a proper tag team like us.
[Havok] Both of them at the same time couldn't handle us.
[Sally] That's very true, Nathaniel. But they do have to deal with both of us. You, the guy who came here to APW and forced your way into the main event at the same time me, Lester, and a whole bunch of APW greats were going. I mean, that says a lot about you. And me: The only female to win the then-World Heavyweight Championship. What does that say about us? *Sally looks to Havok* It says we get things done. You're the up-and-comer here. Me? The woman who has beat people bigger, stronger, and tougher than her. What a perfect combo! Tried-and-tested ex-champion...up-and-coming megastar. We're not here to grab titles and make a reputation, we're here to do what we do best: Go out there, wrestle and make sure those fans walk away thinking they saw the best that we have.
[Havok] Who said anything about the fans?
Sally stops. Havok doesn't notice straight away and walks a few more paces. He stops, turns back to look at a disappointed Sally.
[Sally] Look, Nathaniel, I know you have seen a side of me for the past few months that wasn't exactly endearing to the paying public. But now? Now I realise that they're the makers-or-breakers. If we want to be a successful team, we have to do more than win. We have to care about how we're perceived. Care about how we're received. We have to care about how the fans look at us. If they don't cheer for us, what reason do we have to get any titles shots after Shockwave? What reason does Reginald or President Jeff have to have us on their shows? Now look, maybe the fans haven't been good to you. But we have to be good for them. No, *Sally starts to walk, catches Havok's arm, and pulls him along with her* we have to be great for them. We have to go out there and make sure that they know we're doing everything for them. That we're wrestling better than anyone else. And you can't fake that: You have to go out there and do it. And if we do that, if we go out to show the fans that we're giving them everything, do you know what happens?
[Havok] We win?
[Sally]Yes! Exactly, we win. When you and I are better than everyone in that ring, no one can beat us. Not some old-and-broke man and some untested champion. Not anybody. That's where we're better than BDC and Rico also: They're not here to put on a good show. They're not here to please the fans. They're not here to show their natural abilities. They're here to show Reginald that they're great singles wrestlers. We're not here to prove that. BDC's doing that. And we're not here to make sure that we start building a world champion's reputation. Rico's doing that. They're so concerned with all these other things, that they aren't going to have enough time to be concerned with us! This match is our first match to set the scene for our team. We do that by beating these two as easily as we could one-on-one. Because we could totally do that. BDC isn't his reputation anymore– he's past it. And Rico? Well, I guess he must be alright– he is the World Champion now. But, really, who was his competition?
I mean, let's face it: Rico is good. But he's not great. You need to be great to be World Heavyweight Champion. And you certainly need to be great if you want to win a tag team match where all you've heard from your partner is how much you suck and how much he deserves your title. I like Rico in the ring. I think he has some darn good moves up his sleeve. He can entertain as good as a Branden Harvey or a Tyler Vaughn. But as for being the type of wrestler who can beat people as good as you and me, Havok? I just don't see it. Maybe one day, but not this week. For now, he's worried about what the fans think, what Reginald thinks, what BDC thinks. And then, at the very end of his list of worries, is winning this match. So Rico is going to be a little distracted in amongst his potential competition, trying to hide any weaknesses, than to actually get his head in the game and wrestle the way a tag team partner should. Heck, he'd probably let BDC get beaten and busted before he stopped it just to make sure he's one step ahead of him.
Sally stops, looks at her keycard in her free hand, then at the door nearby. There! She spots her door. She wanders over to it and puts the card in. Meanwhile, Havok starts to walk away, looks at his card, then walks back. He walks to the door opposite Sally's, slides the card in, then opens up the door. Sally turns around with a beaming smile!
[Sally] I guess we're hall-buddies!
[Havok] Hall-buddies?
[Sally] Yeah! We can settle in, you know, take some time to rest, then get back to talking about the match! Go, freshen up and that.
Sally dives into her room, Havok lets out a long sigh, then walks into his. Shane is left out in the hall, but it's not long before Sally is out of her room, and knocking away at Havok's door. He slowly pulls the door open and Sally walks on in, Shane quickly following, catching Sally midway through sentence...
[Sally] …and BDC might be big and all, but so what? It makes him slower. And what, being as old as he is? How does he expect to be able to keep up in this match. Standing across from him are you and me: Two of the fastest, most skilled, most energetic wrestlers APW has. I've faced him and, well, I'm fairly certain that the world remembers what happened: I won. It was really tough, mind you. But I won. Now, that was when I was World Champion and BDC was trying to prove that he still had 'it'. All he had to focus on was winning a silly little OverDrive match. And could he? No. So how does he think he's going to win this match– when he is more interested in taking out his partner than either of us. He will bad mouth us- they both will- about all sorts of horrible things. But it won't be enough to hide the fact that he'd rather have Rico one-on-one than this match here.
Now don't get me wrong– I respect BDC. I respect him for everything he's done in the business. What he's achieved? But that sort of stuff takes it toll. *Sally holds up a hand to stop Havok* Don't worry, I won't talk about his age or anything like that. But he's just...unreliable. I mean, I trusted him to help me once– in Survive and Conquer. And do you think he did? Of course not. He looked out for himself and he ended up disgracing himself with that performance. You know, if anyone wants to talk about a weak link in our team. I'd point to BDC and say “Hey, this guy might have been a strong link, but now? Now he's the weak one.” And that's important: Being a team. You win a match like this when you can work together, put differences aside, and cover each other...
And with that, Havok's had enough. While Sally keeps talking, he pulls her by the elbow to the door. He backs her up, looks interested in what she's saying, then shuts the door on her. Sally looks shocked! No one ever kicks her out of a hotel room! She looks around, finds Shane she followed her out, then lets out a long sigh and walks back to her room. She opens up the door, and shuts Shane out. With nothing left to record, the scene fades out. There's a pause, and then
"Sally Talfourd and Nathaniel Havok"
is handwritten across the screen, in purple. Before it fades out and the episode closes.
