"Sally Talfourd presents..."
is written across the screen, fades out, then
"In association with Action Packed Wrestling"
is written across the background, fades out to a picturesque Honolulu beaches. Stretching whitish-gold sand, steady waves, cool and gentle breeze. The shot pans across, turning from the long stretch of sand to a particular spot on the sand. The camera tilts down and there we find the stunning, beautiful, did I say stunning? Sally Talfourd. She's not about to give up a day working on her fitness and physique- that would be swimming and frolicking in the sun. Now she's drying off and perfecting that tan. Laying there in a polka-dot bikini, a frilly waistband to make her look extra cute. She's sunning on her back, sunglasses down, hands behind her head. Shane moves over so that his shadow blocks out the sun. It takes a moment, but as that perfect skin starts to cool down, Sally twigs.
[Sally] Yes?
[Shane] Is this how you're going to spend the day? We can just do the filming stuff tomorrow.
[Sally] What do you mean all day?
[Shane]…you've been here for 7 hours now!
[Sally] And the sun's still up! Plenty of day left.
[Shane] That's it. I'm going back to the hotel.
[Sally] Ugh, fine! Hold on munchkin.
Sally sits up, brushing herself off. She stands, and reveals her true picture-perfect beauty. Stretch. Scoops up the towel. A nod over the opposite direction form the water. The two start to waddle off (because it's not so easy to walk on sand, you know?).
[Shane] So, how's the comeback going?
[Sally] The comeback has been a successful one, I'd say. Last week. Go out with Havok, beat two respected wrestlers. Walk away winners. Successful, no?
[Shane] Couldn't get much better.
[Sally] Though, this week, I have to do it alone. Go out by myself and prove that it wasn't all Havok. My chance to step back into the focus with a performance of my own.
[Shane] Against Kate Horton, right?
[Sally] Someone's done their homework! *They're off the sand and on the footpath. After a little more they find a park bench and table, take up a seat opposite one-other, Sally pushing her sunglasses up into her hair to reveal those dazzling eyes* You know, when I saw Kate come into APW, I sort of rolled my eyes. I saw her and thought "I'll still be the only female wrestler here." Then I watched her and what she can do, and quickly that thought disappeared. Kate, I judged you by your cover, and you're a much more interesting read than that. I mean, you've already made a presence in APW. Not only that, you held your own in a serious tag match. Well done Kate. You showed me and, well, anyone who thought you might be here for a bit of comic or visual relief that you're more than that. A lot more. You can, you know, wrestle. You can take it to the men as good as anyone. Well, almost anyone. Because for as good as the men might think they are here, there's a woman who's already come and shown them how it's done. That's me. So for as good as you might be against some of the guys here, I'm going to have to rain on your parade and say that they, really, aren't much of a benchmark here. They're more of a minimum. Like, if you can't beat them, you really shouldn't be in APW.
No, if you want to see how good you are, you come to me, my dear. I'm really the benchmark here. If you can cut it with me, then you're cool to stay. If you can't, well, you can scrap around with the rest at the start of the card. I mean, those matches have their place and we need people to be in them. Don't take it as an insult. But if you want a consistent main event gig here then you have to get through me. And that's what makes our stipulation all the more better: A chance at the elimination chamber. If you can beat me, you deserve a spot in that match. You beat me- a former APW champion- then you deserve a shot at that title. But if you can't...well...I guess you just need to keep working. That's not a bad thing- we're not all born this good. But you need to be this good to cut it in that elimination chamber. You need to be as good as me to win that hellish match because, well, I've won it. I was the last person to win one. Last year, I was the only person strong enough to make it bell to bell. *Sally sits up, all surprised and shocked* That's right! I was the number one entrant too! I was the first person in and the last person out.
[Shane] Did you seriously forget that?
[Sally] I remember now- I had a thing going with Biggs. He was trying to prove to his girlfriend...fïance...wife...whatever she was at the time...that he wasn't interested in me. So he made me the number one for the elimination chamber. So, you know, that should really prove just how good I am. I beat five men and was number one. It's not like I came in last and cleaned up the scraps. No, I made the scraps, then I cleaned them up! So, yeah, if ever there was another reason to think that I'm a tough young gal, that would be it.
[Shane] So it won't be long before you're back on top? Take back your place.
[Sally] No, Shane. It's not like that. Not at all. No one owns a place anywhere. No one owns a main-event spot or a place in the spotlight. You have to earn it. Work for it. Then you deserve to be somewhere.
[Shane] So where do you deserve to be now then? Who are you in APW after your recent performances?
Sally stops to think. That's a pretty good question. I mean, she's probably not been a world-beater these past few months. But here she is: One match away from a title match. In a setting that not only has she won before, she dominated. She's two steps away from being a serious champion in APW again. So now's the time to really think about where she is in the standing of things. And where all her past efforts and wins and her reputation have kept her in the standing of things.
[Sally] Here's the real deal behind who I am in APW. I'm not the lurking world champion who is dying to get another shot. Not the person who's bitter for having lost my title. Not even the best that this company has. All I am is a simple girl- a girl trying to do her best. There's times when I'm so far beyond everyone that I should be a champion. Then...then there's something like my recent record which pretty much says I'm clearly not the best in this company. And you know what? I'm ok with that. I can deal with that; deal with the fact that I haven't won at a single pay per view this year. Deal with the fact that my win/loss record this year is looking more even than winning. And deal with the fact that the likes of CJ, Rebel, Brown- they're the champions. All I can do is go out and do my best. That's all I ask of myself. It's all the fans ever ask of me. They just want to see me go out and give it my all. That's all I'm doing with Kate. That's all I'll do at the elimination chamber, if I make it.
But don't mistake my current state of mind with not caring. I do care. I really do. Care about my status. Care about the belts. Care about APW. But I respect myself and the belts and APW to do anything more than earn my way back to the top the right way. If I went out there and, like, started beating down people, making a mockery of the rules and everything that APW stands for...how could I possible say that I earned anything? No. I'm doing this the old fashioned way. I'm going out to each of my matches and putting in everything. I'll earn my way back to the top. I'll get better with each match. Be more in-tune with myself. Flow in the ring again. This time, last year, I was doing my best. And that was the best that APW had. No one could touch me in the ring. People had to shade their eyes because of the dazzling brilliance that each of my matches had! *Sally lets out a self-indulgent chuckle. Even that metaphor is too extravagant for her* My matches, this time last year...after I won Test for the Best...after I won the APW World Heavyweight Championship...after I went for something like 12 straight singles wins...I was just sublime.
Remember those days? Remember when Sally was, like, the be-all-and-end-all of APW? Everyone was scrambling to get into a match with her, much less be as good as her. Funny how all the people that she was better than now seem to be better than her now. The Biggs's, the CJ's, even the Havok's. Now they've gone on to greater things, right? Left Sally behind? Maybe...
[Sally] That's what I'm trying to get back to. That's the state of mind and state of body and place in APW that I want back. But I know that I have to get there like I got there last time: Hard work. Sweat. Victories. It started last week. I got a win with Havok. That's the first step. Now it's time for me to go out and do it alone. KateF, you're the second step. Its' not some rude, ignorant step over you. Or some violent, sadistic step through you. No, I'm stepping up to you. Treating you with more respect that you'll get from anyone else here. I'm stepping up to you because I know you can bring a heck of a match. I know that I have to bring a good match just to match you. But I know that if I come to put my best on...that if I come ready to do everything I can do great...that if I come ready to leave everything out there in the ring, I'll pick up the win. I know that if I put out the kind of match that got me into the elimination chamber last year...that got me the world title...then I'm unstoppable. Lester Only couldn't stop me, and it's an unfortunate fact that you won't be able to either. It's not meant to deter you from bringing everything you've got. To run you down or slander you. It's just a statement of reality.
Sally looks up, sees that the sun is still shining. The lowers her sunglasses again, smiles at the camera, and stands up.
[Sally] The same reality that puts us in the ring together. The same reality that says you're facing a former world champion. *Sally starts to walk off, but calls back to Shane, who she's leaving behind* The same reality that simple says I'm good enough to win this week.
Sally momentarily turns to give a little wave back to the camera, then heads back to her strenuous and really hard work on the beach. Shane watches after her- much to the benefit of the viewers. The scene eventually fades away, holding on a blank, black screen, then
