Afternoon…
The scene opens inside the hotel room of Kate Horton and Charles Scripps. Kate has just finished watching Sally Talfourd’s latest promo on her laptop with the NFL highlights on the TV on mute. Charles walks in and sits next to her to check on her since she’s been angry all morning.
Scripps: Are you still mad over what Sally had to say?
Kate looks over at him and has a look of hate on her face as she answers him.
Horton: I’m going to hurt her, Charles. I’m really going to hurt that bitch.
Charles, who is usually the voice of reason when she gets like this, tries to calm her down before she says or does something she is going to regret. Years ago he kept her from injuring another player during a polo match just because Kate thought she took a cheap shot at her which wasn’t the case.
Scripps: Calm down, Kate. What are you so mad about? I saw the video footage myself.
Horton: I know. You were with me when I first watched it.
Scripps: That’s right. Nothing on there jumped out at me as being a reason to be as mad as you are.
Horton: I’m mad that she would even insinuate that you would get involved in the match on my behalf like I need help beating her. It’s an insult to me that she would even say such a thing. I win on my own and if she knew anything about me she would know that. But NO, apparently big bad Kate needs help to beat little old Sally who’s got an ego the size of Russia. What an asinine comment that was by her. I’m going to make her pay for making me seem like a weakling who has no chance against her by making comments like that.
Scripps: Kate, you need to calm down before you get blown up before the match even starts.
Horton: WHY?! SHE INSINUATED THAT YOU WOULD INTERFERE IN THE MATCH! We play by the rules. Who the hell does she think we are, Ebirah and his Elite Posse losers? Come on! Neither of us need help to win our matches. We are wrestlers and what we do is go out to the ring and do what we do best…wrestle. We’re not here to entertain the fans. All we do is hurt people and we don’t need to be interfering in each other’s matches in order to get that done.
Charles stops her right there. Something is clearly on his mind. In fact it seems as though he is really irked by something which isn’t like him. This intrigues Kate who rarely sees him like this.
Horton: What’s wrong?
He sighs before answering her.
Scripps: My name is Scripps, not Kripps.
She raises an eyebrow after hearing this.
Horton: Is that why you’re mad?
Scripps: I’m not the receiver on the Browns for crying out loud. My name is Charles Scripps. Any monkey with a laptop could look that up.
Horton: But what REALLY pissed me off was Sally telling Havok that they were the good guys like we’re supposed to be the villains in the match and precious little Sally and Havok are the big heroes. Give me a break. It’s not like everyone hates us. The fact is they don’t because we don’t cheat or bend and break the rules.
Scripps: I’ll agree with you on that. We’re not scumbags.
Horton: However she did realize her mistake so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt there but the mere fact that she thought we would do something like that pisses me off. What a joke of a comment that was. Then she made the mistake of making some comments about how we carry ourselves when we talk to the camera. What Sally fails to realize is that I have a temper. That is why I go out to the ring and put people in body bags. That’s what I do. I am a machine that inflicts pain nonstop.
What Sally fails to realize is that all of that “respect” she showed me was done in a condescending manner. It was almost if she was talking down to me and to us as a team like she’s superior and we’re supposed to look and act like she does. That is why she set me off, Charles. Talking about me in a condescending manner isn’t the way to get in my good graces. It just makes me want to hurt her even more. I LOVE how she can condone all of that with a straight face yet fail to see how she looks from other people’s perspectives. I hope Sally realizes the reason I ripped into her was because of the way she said all of those compliments. It was like she was talking down to me like a child when saying all of those nice things and it pissed me off. Nobody talks about me like I’m a child. She knew what she was doing and acting ignorant about it like she did tells me that I am correct in that assumption.
Scripps: Never assume anything.
Horton: I knew you would say that. However in this case I’m going to disagree since she’s only saying it to win a public relations war. That’s all it is. It’s just to continue to make her image look good. Sure, she is right about me not winning a match or not main-eventing but I’ve only been here less than a month. I’m not Kurt Noble for Christ’s sake. Of course I’m not going to be in any main events. Sally has an elitist mindset and that’s the one thing about her that I really don’t like. She acts like I’m a joke. I hope she realizes she didn’t strike a nerve, either. She didn’t do anything but show what she’s really like.
Sally is looking too much into everything that has gone down thus far leading into the match. She thinks I’m trying to prove her wrong which I plan on doing. Right now she’s thinking everything that I said was mind games when in actuality I’m just telling it like it is. The fact that the bitch thinks I’m afraid of her is insulting. I fear no woman. I don’t fear any man either for that matter. I’m going to step up to the plate and smash Sally’s face in with a baseball bat. That’s what I plan on doing. I’m going to smash up her pretty little face just like somebody should have a long time ago. If Sally thinks that I’m afraid of her then she has the wrong idea about me.
In all honesty I think that she is afraid of me. She’s afraid that everything that I’m saying is the gospel truth. That is why she’s masking her fear by saying that I’m afraid of her. I can see through the fog of lies that she is telling her friend Havok about the match. She knows deep down that I can outwrestle her. I know every hold there is and have a strong amateur wrestling background. That is my strong point as far as the wrestling business goes. Deep down she knows this. That is why she is brushing me off like I’m just another opponent. I saw the fear in her eyes when she was speaking with Havok. I know if I saw it then some of the fans saw it too. She is genuinely frightened that I might actually shock the world and beat her.
Kate points to the television where the football highlights are on mute. Charles looks over and sees the Bills kicking the game winning field goal to beat heavily favored Patriots team. They both smile.
Horton: I think that’s a sign of things to come for me tomorrow.
Scripps: That is so true. It also makes the Chargers loss even worse. They know how to lose.
Horton: But that’s not what I’m going to do. Against Sally Talfourd I’m going to go out to the ring and destroy her. I want to make her bleed and suffer. She can call herself the most technically proficient but she hasn’t faced either of us yet. We both can match her hold for hold yet Sally is so blinded by her arrogance that she fails to see it. We need to wake her up to the reality of her situation. She’s going to find out that she is in the ring with someone who can outwrestle her. This match is going to be a classic technical wrestling showcase because I can match her hold-for-hold and the fact that her arrogance has pissed me off is going to give this match a much needed dynamic to make people interested in seeing it. Now there’s a reason for the fight which is what I want.
I want everyone talking about this match. Sally has the HUGE experience edge. She’s been in the business over seven years while I’ve been in the business less than one year. The fact is that Sally and I are one and the same. We’re puppets in the same sick play known as APW where God is President Jeff and he wants to create an atmosphere of hate and violence. Violence and hate are what I will bring to this match. My anger is the key to his match. If I can control my hatred and use it as a positive thing then I will win. I also find it laughable that she thinks I don’t know any defensive counter holds. If you only know offensive wrestling moves and have no defensive skills then you are an idiot and that’s the truth. I know just as much about defensive wrestling as I do about offensive wrestling and that should scare her. In fact, deep down, I hope she’s scared. I want her to have that little tinge of fear in her mind going into this match. That is what I want to see.
Sally’s rambling about her abilities are even more laughable than the fear that she’s hiding inside. If going hold for hold and counter for counter is the way she wants to go into this match then I will win. It’s that simple. She thinks her skills are superior yet I am on par with her already and will only get better as I gain experience in the business. I am on the cusp of greatness. The only way I can achieve that greatness is by defeating the woman I respect the most in this business. I hate to do it but the old lions need to be put out to pasture and the new lions are going to take over the savannah known as APW. All of that BS she said about outwrestling me isn’t going to change the fact that she’s already an aging veteran and I’m going to have the endurance advantage in this match which is something she didn’t even think about. The younger the athlete the better the endurance. I will win the match the longer it goes.
Scripps: She said her ego isn’t a weakness.
Horton: Pfft, yeah and pigs can fly. Egos and arrogance are always a weakness. Only a fool would say otherwise. I’m going to earn the right to be the best by beating her and crushing her ego with a swift kick to the head. Charles, I don’t want you involved in this. I can beat Sally on my own. I will earn everyone’s respect when I do it, too. I will go out to the ring and steamroll through her to win the right to go on to the Elimination Chamber on my path to the championship. This is going to be my finest hour and her worst nightmare…
Kate gets up and storms to her bedroom leaving Charles to watch the NFL highlights as the scene fades out.
