"The time is almost here.
"The time for my first title defense is almost upon us. I know there are people out there that are doubting my abilities. There are people that are doubting my capabilities of winning a ladder match against a man such as Biggs. But not me. I know that I can defend my title successfully, and in doing so, I know that I can prove that I belong at the top of the APW ladder.
"Literally and metaphorically.
"After all, that's what this match is about isn't it? On the outside it might just seem like two men fighting in an effort to knock each other out long enough to scale a ladder and grab a title suspended above the ring, but there's more to it. Because this match represents what is going on in APW. This match represents what has been going on between Biggs and myself.
"I am the Undisputed champion, plain and simple, but Biggs also lays claim to my belt. He also assumes ownership, saying that he never lost it. And for those that believe him, they can believe that he and I are on equal ground. That he and I are both standing on the same playing field, looking up at the title we are both claiming as ours.
"Except only one is a claim.
"Which brings us to the other side of things. The people who don't believe Biggs, yet still want to see me prove myself, yet again. They still want to watch as I climb that ladder rung by rung until I am at the top, holding my hard earned title high in the air. Until I prove that I am capable of getting to the top and staying there.
"I know how Biggs thinks. He thought that due to my last encounter with a ladder match, he could get an easy win. He's probably not the only one that would have done it. But by that logic, he would have also been fine choosing a steel cage match. But, of course, there's no honor in that and since Biggs is seeing this ladder match as a match that honorable men participate in, the steel cage wouldn't suffice.
"Though when was the last time anyone saw Biggs do anything honorable?
"I may have lost to Beautiful Disaster at Rasslemania, but I'm not going to lose again. I'm more prepared then I could ever imagine being. I'm more ready then anyone could believe me to be.
"This is what I have been working toward all year.
"This is what I have been looking forward to since the Overdrive after Shockwave.
"This is my chance to put Biggs in his place.
"Sure, it won't be an easy feat, but I'm prepared for that. I'm ready for that. And after what Biggs has put me through the past few weeks, I'm ready for anything.
"The question is, is Biggs ready for anything?
"Because I'm pulling out all the stops."[/i]
The scene opens up inside of the locker room area. The place is deserted, a few days before One Night in Hell, save for one man walking through the hallways, B.J. Gates. He turns a corner and then enters an open locker room, where his brother C.J. Gates can be seen sitting on a bench at the far end of the wall. He is wearing street clothes, his cowboy hat resting beside him, the APW Undisputed title resting on the seat of a chair in front of him. His hands are clasped together as he stares blankly forward.
"Yo, bro," B.J. says, snapping his fingers in front of C.J.'s face. His brother doesn't move, instead just blinks his eyes. "Earth to C.J. You there man?"
"Yeah, I'm here," C.J. starts, leaning back against the wall to look over at his brother, who takes a seat on a chair.
"Just deep in thought? Again." He smirks over at C.J.
"It's a big weekend, man," C.J. says shaking his head slightly. "I get the opportunity to take on a man that has become one of my biggest rivals in APW, and I get to defend my title for the first time. I get to walk into that arena as the defending Undisputed champion for the first time in my career."
"Nervous?" C.J. looks over at B.J. for a few moments before shrugging.
"I don't know. I mean, I feel like I should be, but right now, I'm more concentrated on beating Biggs."
"Things sure have gotten heated between the two of you haven't they?" B.J. asks, raising his legs up to rest his feet on another chair. "At the last Pay-Per-View you guys were still able to walk past each other. Sure, there would be a dirty look but now? The two of you cross paths and you would break out into a brawl in the hallway."
C.J. nods. "You're right. If I walked past him, I'd probably take a swing at this point. But that's what happens when my name is defamed by someone like him."
"So you think you've got things sewn up?"
"I don't know," C.J. shakes his head. "It's not going to be easy."
"Never is right?"
C.J. smiles. "Never is. As determined as I am, Biggs is just the same."
"But more seasoned with weapons."
"Right," C.J. admits. "But that doesn't mean that I'm down and out. I can still fight with the best of them. Remember David Wallace?"
"Yeah."
"And he was much bigger than Biggs or I. And I beat him."
"So you think that prepares you well for this ladder match?"
C.J. smirks. "I know it does. It's going to be a fight, that's for sure, but it's also going to be an even fight. There's no way that I'm letting Biggs get the upper hand in this contest. No way at all. I've worked too hard this year to just give up that easily."
"Good to hear," B.J. says. "Dad wouldn't have it any other way."
The scene fades to black as the two Gates brothers continue to talk.
"You know Biggs, sometimes I wonder if you really know what you're talking about.
"Maybe it's just that I'm not understanding any of it, but from where I sit, you're not making a lick of sense. You say that this is one of the most important matches you've been a part of this year, because it's a chance to not only win back the title that you still think I stole from you, but it's also a chance to put me through Hell. You say that this is something you have been waiting for since Shockwave, that getting your title back is of the utmost importance. And then you turn around and say that the important thing is to make sure that I endure as much Hell as you have since Shockwave. Great, though I can't tell if you are actually interested in getting back your title, or if that is just one of those little rewards that comes with it all after you've taken my head off. You say they are both important, but between you and me, I'm sure one of them is of more importance than the other, isn't that right?
"Still, the real kicker came with the stipulation you chose for the match. Your claim is that you chose a ladder match so that, and I quote, when you beat me, I couldn't deny the fact that I was beaten by you. I couldn't try and spin it the way you've been spinning it for the past month and a half. Just goes to show how much you truly know. I mean, since when was I ever the sort to bitch and moan until I got my way? When was I ever the sort to take a loss, throw a fit and berate the General Manager until he decided to cave in just to shut me up? Never. When I lost the tag team titles, sure it sucked, but I knew that there was a rematch coming...until the Red Shield Mafia got that. That didn't sit too well with me, and sure, I made some comments about it, but in the end the champions agreed that Blade and I should get a rematch because we were the champions.
"Which is what I said to you. After beating you at Shockwave I knew that you should get a title shot, a rematch to try and earn your title. But instead of realizing that, accepting that, and getting ready for that, you threw a fit. You decided to go all five-year-old on Jeff until he put you in that situation that night to shut you up.
"And after you won, after I called it all down the middle, you picked a ladder match. Not the steel cage match that you are so fond of, a match that you would have probably defeated me in if my history is any indication, a match that you could have used to your advantage and brutalized me inside of, you went with what I consider my specialty. What I consider to be my strength. I mean, it's not like I just pulled it out of thin air because my past backs it up. A ladder match is basically what I live for. The chance to go big and make the most of what is laid out before me, or the hard luck of going home because I failed to do so. That is what I've been preaching since day one of being in APW. And you decided to try and use that to squash any thoughts of me disagreeing with the outcome, even though, if you won, I would only be expecting the rematch that is in the clause of being a former champion.
"I guess, what I'm trying to get at, is that the confusion starts with that stipulation. The confusion starts with you choosing it over something that you are more fond of, something that you could hurt me in. I haven't been in many steel cage matches in my career, and the last one I was in, I was busted open until the cows came home by Ryan Ruckus at Survive and Conquer. If you count that one, that is.
"Another thing I'm not sure you are really understanding, is the difference between grey and black. Of course, like you said, heavy bias could come into it, I'm sure if you asked anyone whose name is not Johnny Rebel, you could see that you are far from being grey. To be the grey knight, like I portrayed Lester Only as at Shockwave, you have to have shown some sort of compassion. You have to have realized that what you are doing is horrible, and changed your ways. At the beginning of the year Lester Only was, well, lets just say he was doing whatever he could to get that title back from Sally Talfourd, and eventually, he began to see that everything he was doing wasn't getting him anywhere. Whether or not you bought it, Biggs, it was there. He started to slip back toward the lighter side of things, putting him into that grey area. You, Biggs, haven't done so. Since the beginning of the year, all you have done is cheat, cheat, cheat until you couldn't cheat anymore. Maybe you had one moment where you showed something positive, but that isn't enough to make you grey. Not by a long shot.
"Though I guess we can toss that into the same bin as not knowing that this match epitomizes good versus evil. Sure, maybe it's not on the same galactic scale as Darth Vader versus Luke Skywalker, but it's still there. Denying it just shows that no matter what is said, you will just push it aside. That no matter what facts are thrown in your face, you will ignore them and travel down an entirely different path, hoping that you are followed by everyone paying attention. The fact is, Biggs, that anytime you try and ignore what's been happening, the fans get yet another look at the sort of man that you are. The fans realize what I have been seeing since Test for the Best.
"You are not making any sense.
"And you are beginning to sound like a bigger hypocrite with each passing day.
"After I revealed you as being a fraud at Test for the Best, you claimed that since there was no replay, there was no proof that you stole the title from Lester. And, seemingly, you've continued that little bit of info through to now, claiming that without a replay, there's no proof that you're the one that cost yourself the title at Shockwave. That you were the one that got into Kurt's face for no real reason. That you were the one that first brought that title into play because you knew that you couldn't beat me without some help. Because you knew that you were already fighting a losing battle, couldn't admit it to yourself just like you can't admit that I am the real Undisputed champion, and had to try and get the upper hand. But since there's no replay, and since you had already hired Rebel to take out the referee, there's no proof, right? It never happened, is that it?
"Bullshit.
"Bullshit. Just like it's bullshit that you're still claiming to be the APW Undisputed champion. You keep going back to Kurt Noble this and Kurt Noble that, but what you fail to realize is that he was perfectly within his rights as the special enforcer of that match. As my research has told me, the enforcer remains on the outside of the ring, enforcing what the referee does not see. They can then become the regular referee if the original referee becomes incapacitated. And after Johnny Rebel came down to spoil my pinfall earlier in the match, incapacitating the referee, refereeing duties fell onto Noble's shoulders.
"So really, Biggs, your arguments hold no water. Everything that you have been preaching since the day you lost your title, has all been for not. Ever since you lost that title, you have done nothing but make shit up, hoping, praying, begging for someone to listen and agree with you. But they didn't. And now you are seriously grasping at straws. Who knows? Maybe you're even realizing that you are way in over your head, that a match against me, right now, after you've spent months berating me and attacking me and making me bleed all over the world, maybe now you're realizing that you have no hope at winning the match and getting the Undisputed title put back around your waist.
"I will give you one thing though.
"Comparing our match to Star Wars might not have been accurate, but if you would have done more than grow enraged for me even mentioning Star Wars, you would know that I only did so to see things through your eyes. Last time around, I used the whole medieval time period to compare our battle, and you seemed to shrug that off as if it was nothing. So this time, I took a look through your eyes. Sure, you weren't represented as the Anakin you preferred to be, but that's because I am not IN your head. I had to do with what I had.
"And what I had is a knowledge of Star Wars. Of course, my knowledge is not as vast as yours, and I don't dress up like characters from the series to prove a point, but it still got the basic premise across. I wasn't trying to insult it or you, or anything like that. Then again, maybe it all worked out in the long run. It seemed to me that deciphering my use of Star Wars, and picking it apart word for word was a bit more important to you then getting yourself ready for our match. Which is fine. I mean, the time you took to prove me wrong just goes to show me that you are easily distracted and that you are capable of easily being knocked off course. Sure, maybe it just incited you to drive a fist down my throat after I called you Darth Biggs, or because I loosely suggested that we were related. Maybe I was trying to see it as you currently thinking you are better than me and, in street terms, think that 'you're my daddy'. Not literally, but in the sense of a thug. But in the end, who was it that prevailed? Sure, I will admit that in the end Darth Vader ended up saving Luke from Palpatine's clutches, but he ended up losing his own life in the process. In simpler terms, you cost yourself the match. Maybe I'm way off base, but maybe I'm right on the nose. Maybe, every single thing that was said and done went right over your head because you were too angry about how it was all laid out.
"Like I said, it's not the best, Biggs. But when you boil it all down, you are evil and I am good. You might not be as evil as anyone on the Empire, but you're evil enough. And outside of that, I've never said I'm Luke Skywalker. I don't carry a lightsaber, I don't wear robes, I don't fly a spacecraft and I definitely don't kiss my sister.
"That's all I can give you though, Biggs, because everything else you've said has been nothing but lies. Everything else you have done, has been nothing but underhanded. It probably means nothing to you, but that's the truth. That's what I have seen, that's what Kurt Noble has seen and that is what every single one of the fans that watch APW on a regular basis have seen. You can continue to deny it all you want, but at some point you are going to have to come to the realization that it's true. Eventually you are going to have to realize that you can only blame yourself for everything that has gone wrong. Eventually you will see that you are that weasly, little punk that I have depicted you as. I will say that there is always that possibility that you will prove my wrong but...let's just say that I'm not holding my breath for it to happen.
"Things are personal Biggs, I won't deny that. In fact, I don't think I ever have. I don't think that prior to Shockwave, I ever said it was only about the title. I don't think that going into Shockwave I ever honed in on the belt. In my mind, things between us have always been personal. I've said it before but, apparently, it needs repeating. Prior to Test for the Best, I respected you. We had teamed up a few times, and worked together rather well, and after seeing the shit that you had to put up with against the Contourage, maybe that was when you started to turn towards the light. But you quickly ran back into the darkness at the event itself when you stole from the legitimate champion. From there, the respect became less and less as Shockwave approached. You began to show me your true colors, and you began to really be nothing more then a snake.
"You began to show how truly evil you are.
"And now, going into One Night in Hell, it's all about anger and hate. It's all about causing as much damage and punishment as we can when we step into that ring. While you are trying to decide if it's more important to try and decapitate me, or to try and win the title, I'll be making sure I'm ready for you. I'll be making sure I'm prepared to punish you and to keep you in the Hell you're currently in. Will it be easy? I never said it will be. It's going to be a fight, Biggs, you and I both know that. You might not be worried about me going hardcore because I don't have much of it in my past...at least in APW. Yes, Biggs, there is a world that existed before this federation for me, and in that world, I was part of countless matches that were either stipulated to be hardcore, or that ended up going that way quickly. Bunkhouse brawls, ladder matches, no holds barred, no disqualifications, I dipped my toe in each one. So while I might not be as accustomed to using weapons in a match I know that if the moment calls for it, and if it is within the rules of the match, then I can do it.
"Which is where we find ourselves this week. You said it yourself weeks ago. Anything can happen in a ladder match, and anything can happen when anything can be used to our advantage. And while you think I'm too much of a goody-two-shoes to ramp up the pain, it is definitely possible. And it will definitely happen. I mean, it's not cheating if it's within the parameters of the rules, right Biggs? Everything's fair game, everything's legal and everything will happen, I promise you that. I know that I am going to bleed, especially since the cut still hasn't healed. And I know that there is a chance that I might end up on the verge of blacking out, or nearly receiving a concussion. I realize all of that, and I'm prepared for every bit of it. If that's what I have to go through to make sure that the fans have a great match to remember forever, to make sure that I come through on my first title defense, something that you couldn't do Biggs, then so be it. I will do it.
"You keep talking about Kurt Noble as if you're worried, Biggs. As if he is going to be the difference maker. Well, much like at Shockwave, if he is to get involved, he will only do so if he has to. And since the match has no real rules, the only time I can see him doing so, is if Johnny Rebel sticks his nose into the match. I mean, if you want to keep linking Noble and I together, what about you and Rebel? All the two of you have done is plot together to get one up on us. All the two of you have done is try to screw me over. And if he shows his face, well, you can be sure that Noble won't be far behind. Never before, and never after.
"We're still those same people we were at Shockwave, Biggs. We are still similar in wrestling styles, similar in size and we both recognize success. You don't take away my Test for the Best accomplishment, just like I don't take away your Overdrive title reigns. The difference is that I've done nothing but earn my way to the top. And I'm not about to let some hypocrite like you tear me down from the top of the ladder. I am not about to let a man who doesn't even know whats going on get the better of me.
"Quite simply, Biggs, I don't think you have what it takes to take the title from me. I don't think you are capable of beating me in Japan. You might be hell bent on doing some serious damage, but just like at Shockwave, you're going to end up costing yourself the match. You're going to end up hurting yourself more than you will me.
"And by the end of the match, I will be standing at the top of the ladder holding my title high in the air, while you are still trying to figure out where you went wrong.
"Biggs, it's time to put up or shut up. It's time to go big or go home."
"The time for my first title defense is almost upon us. I know there are people out there that are doubting my abilities. There are people that are doubting my capabilities of winning a ladder match against a man such as Biggs. But not me.
