The snow drifted slowly down to Earth at the feet of Brandy Boyer as she stood outside her childhood him in Anchorage, Alaska. She was wearing a beanie, a thick black leather jacket and a pair of jeans with black combat boots. She stared at the house, bouncing on her heels a bit as she was waiting for someone to come outside.
Brandy was hot off her debut match in APW at Christmas Chaos. She pretty much went two on one against what was suppose to be a hot, young tag team but they turned out to be a dud when she beat them with the help of APW’s resident jobber, Mr. Dangerous. Brandy was feeling good but coming up on New Year’s she had another challenge, this time against one of the star’s of Overdrive, Blade. It was going to be a whole new challenge and one Brandy was certainly looking forward to facing.
BRANDY BOYER: Come on, dad…
She blew on her hands, rubbing them together even thought she was wearing leather gloves. It was below freezing in Alaska and Brandy had gotten used to the weather of the lower 48 already. The door then opened and a big, burly, bearded man stepped out slowly, obviously sore and tired.
BRANDY’S DAD: Sorry, doll. Had to take a piss.
BRANDY BOYER: That’s great, pops. You ready to go? I gotta get to the fucking airport.
BRANDY’S DAD: Where you flying to again?
BRANDY BOYER: New Orleans. It’ll be a bit different weather then this hell hole I’m hoping.
BRANDY’S DAD: Ha. You grew up in this weather. Don’t tell me you are getting soft. I mean I always tell the boys on the boat how my daughter is tougher then them and it used to be true.
BRANDY BOYER: Trust me, pops, I could still take any one of those old fisherman. I just ain’t as used to this weather as I once was. Traveling the South isn’t going to help much either but this is the biggest match of my damn career and I don’t plan on missing it because I got to the airport late.
BRANDY’S DAD: We’ll get you there. Just settle down, darling.
Brandy’s father headed down the steps and Brandy leaned down, grabbing her green duffel bag off the ground and putting it over her shoulder. She headed to her dad’s pick-up and threw it in the back. She had been up in Alaska since Christmas Chaos to see her father. She was the only family he had left and he was the only person she gave a damn about. Brandy climbed into the truck, slamming the door closed as her father walked around and got in the driver’s side.
BRANDY’S DAD: Damn. It is cold out today…
BRANDY BOYER: I told you. Now get me the fuck outta here.
Her dad just smiled as he put the keys in and the truck came to life. He pulled out of the drive-way and into the road, heading towards the airport as fast as he could considering the icy conditions.
BRANDY’S DAD: You haven’t told me about this new match yet. What is this guy you are facing?
BRANDY BOYER: Blade? He is just another loud mouth jerk douche bag who I’ll shut up. I did it to those New Yorkers and this guy ain’t too special. Yeah, maybe he just retired some big shot star on Overdrive but that guy was already on his way out. Retiring someone ain’t so hard. Stopping someone who is fresh and ready to make an impact is much harder and that is what he has to deal with on Asylum.
BRANDY’S DAD: Blade, huh? I’ve seen that guy. He fought Cyrus at Christmas Chaos. It was a good match for sure. You better be careful with this one.
BRANDY BOYER: Careful? Dad, when have you ever known me to be careful? I go out there full speed and I don’t slow down until I’m either knocked the fuck out or I beat whatever unlucky bastard is in the ring with me and Blade is no different. If a team couldn’t beat me with some nobody partner why in the world would this guy be able to beat me one on one? Yeah, he is more talented then Anti-Talent X but he still ain’t ready for me.
BRANDY’S DAD: You still are a feisty one like your mother. I almost feel bad for this guy. He’s from England too, right?
BRANDY BOYER: Yeah, from Manchowder or somewhere stupid. You ever noticed how everyone from England has their heads shoved up their own asses? They always think they are the shit and that nobody can touch them. It gets real old and Blade seems just like the rest. I hate their stupid accents too… This guy has some weird dread braids too. He is like a Jamaican Englishman or some shit. You know what I think when I see that stupid hair?
BRANDY’S DAD: What?
BRANDY BOYER: I see myself pulling on it as hard as I can before I punch him in his fucking nose. He could use a nosejob anyways. He is one ugly fuck.
Brandy’s dad snorted a bit as he turned on to the freeway. Brandy had always been a foul mouthed girl which was mostly his fault for raising her in front of sailors.
BRANDY BOYER: Plus you know what I hate most? Stupid fake names. Nothing drives me more crazy then some guy calling himself Blade for no reason. He isn’t Wesley Snipes and he isn’t cool enough to pull that shit off. You don’t see me calling myself some gay bullshit like Diamond or something awful, do you?
BRANDY’S DAD: I could never see you doing that, darling. Like I said though I think this guy is tougher then most the guys I’ve seen you face in the past. You said this was your biggest match and you may want to take him a bit more serious.
BRANDY BOYER: Serious? He is a sexist ass who thinks women can’t wrestle. I can’t give him any respect because he doesn’t deserve it. Screw this guy and maybe he is a bit tougher then anyone I’ve beaten in the past but he isn’t unstoppable. He is going to underestimate me and think he can dominate because he is such a manly man. Too bad for him he’ll be beaten, humiliated and humbled on New Year’s. I plan on bringing the New Year in by bringing Blade to his damn knees and making him beg for me to stop. He is the first member of Overdrive I’ll be facing and if I go easy or if I screw up and I don’t win then I am going to be letting myself down. I need to not only beat him but I need to beat him so that everyone on that show knows what 2012 looks like for them. Overdrive is the top show in APW and I need to be one of the top names on that show by the end of 2012, no matter what I have to do inside or outside that ring. I’ll cripple Blade if that is what it takes to win. No mercy, no forgiveness and no backing down.
BRANDY’S DAD: That’s my girl… Haha. You know I do think you need to be ready for anything with this guy but then again you are right, he won’t be ready for you either. I got a feeling he thinks this will be a breeze since you are a girl.
BRANDY BOYER: Forget that noise… Boy or girl it doesn’t matter what is hanging between your legs. What matters is how much you want it and how far you are willing to go to win it. Blade doesn’t understand that and while he retired Cyrus on Christmas maybe I’ll force his ass into retirement come New Year’s.
BRANDY’S DAD: You know if you go out there just trying to hurt him though you may get in trouble. Hurting people ain’t the goal, winning is.
BRANDY BOYER: Most the time. There are occasions when hurting people is the way to go… You are right though, this match isn’t one of those times. I need to focus and beat him down. This is my first televised match and the whole world will be watching. I kind of like being the underdog. You know everyone thinks I’ll lose since I’m some rookie and he is some big bad Englishman.
BRANDY’S DAD: Very true. They won’t know what to expect from you but I am pretty sure after they see the match, no matter what happens, that they will know that you are going to be a force in APW from now on. I’ve seen you take down some big guys and I’ve seen you do moves that were down right shocking. I’m proud of you, Brand.
Brandy looked over at her dad as he reached over and squeezed her hand tightly. She smiled before leaning her head over and putting it on his shoulder. She was a mean, loud mouth girl but when she was with her dad she was a daddy’s girl and always would be.
BRANDY BOYER: Thanks pops… I won’t let you down on Asylum either.
BRANDY’S DAD: You couldn’t let me down no matter what happened. You followed your dream and now you are in APW.
BRANDY BOYER: My dream doesn’t end with just being in APW though. It ends with me with a championship around my waist and a punch of Megastars laying at my feet. Until that day comes I’m still working my way up. Blade is the first of many people who need to be taken down.
Her dad pulled off the freeway down the exit towards the airport as Brandy spoke. She looked out the window at the snow slowly stopping and she brushed her hair back behind her ear.
BRANDY’S DAD: Remember to enjoy New Orleans too though. It is one hell of a city and don’t get too caught up in this work that you don’t look around.
BRANDY BOYER: You know I’ll be drinking and looking for guys the minute I step off the plane.
BRANDY’S DAD: I don’t wanna hear about the looking for guys part.
BRANDY BOYER: Ha. I’ll keep that to myself then but I’ll call you when I land and let you know that I got there safe. Then I’ll call you after Asylum to let you know how I beat the hell out of Blade and they are sending his British ass to the hospital.
BRANDY’S DAD: That is one hell of a way to bring in the New Year… Hopefully he gets a hot nurse.
BRANDY BOYER: I hope so. I’ll bring him a beer once I’m done with him. I ain’t got no hard feelings against the guy but he has to lose for me to win which means he is on my shit list until after that bell rings. If he somehow pulls some bullshit and beats me then it’ll be personal and I’ll make his life a living hell.
BRANDY’S DAD: I don’t think that’ll happen. This your airline?
Brandy looked up as they pulled up to the terminal. She nodded her head and her dad stopped the truck in front of the door.
BRANDY BOYER: Thanks for the ride, dad. I’ll call you from New Orleans.
BRANDY’S DAD: Sounds good. Good luck, Brand. Love ya.
She smiled before opening up then jumping out to the snowy ground below. She reached in the back, grabbing her bag and putting it on her shoulder. She waved to her dad before heading into the terminal, heading into her first TV match against Blade in New Orleans.
