Jesse Nunez was interviewed yesterday morning with Johnjay & Rich from 104.7 Kiis FM from Phoenix to promote his new album, wife's acting career, wrestling, amongst other things. Here is an excerpt from the interview.
Johnjay: "I believe we have former professional wrestling champion and recording artist Jesse Nunez on the line. Play the clip."
* They play an opening segment with audio clips of Jesse's music, wrestling promos, acting career, wrestling highlights from the commentators. *
Rich: "Hello Jesse?"
Jesse Nunez: "Wow that was awesome."
Johnjay: "Glad you liked it. Our producer Bill put it together. He is a huge wrestling fan and you are one of his favorite wrestlers."
Rich: "Say hi Bill."
Bill: "Hi!"
Jesse Nunez: "That was great man, I appreciate it."
Rich: "And we have Kyle here too who has a major crush on you."
Kyle: "Oh my God Rich."
Johnjay: "She has been talking about you all week ever since we announced you would be doing this interview this week."
Jesse Nunez: "Awww I'm flattered I really am. I'm a fan of the show and I've seen Kyle's pics on the website before and she is a very beautiful woman."
Rich: "She's blushing now she doesn't know what to say!"
Johnjay: "Too bad she is getting married in a few months. Right Kyle?"
Jesse Nunez: "Well I'm married myself so..."
* Jesse laughs.*
Johnjay: "That's right your wife Michelle who is the lead actress on the tv show Haven on the SyFy channel. Love the show."
Jesse Nunez: "Yes its a very fun show to watch. I've been on set a few times and the whole cast is just wonderful."
Rich: "Any chance to see you make an appearance?"
Jesse Nunez: "I don't know. I doubt it, there is already another former wrestler on there already. Don't want to overdue the show with a bunch of wrestlers."
Johnjay: "She is a very good actress I saw her make an appearance on Harry's law. Any chance on seeing her in any films?"
Jesse Nunez: "Yeah well, she is reading scripts all the time before we go to bed. She is just waiting to find the right one to make her debut on the silver screen."
Johnjay: "How about you? When are we going to see you in the movies again?"
Jesse Nunez: "Man I don't know. See the movies were fun no doubt. But I don't think its for me. I had one good movie and the other was ripped apart by critics and still did well in the box office but DVD sales weren't so hot. So I don't think people wanted to see me as the next Rock."
"I'll just stick to my other careers with the wrestling and the music. But I don't know if I get a script I really like I might do it."
Rich: "What's happening with the music? We haven't heard a new song out from you for awhile."
Jesse Nunez: "Well I'm working on a new album right now. I have a few tracks already done with back in the studio here in New York."
Kyle: "Do you have anyone being featured on any tracks?"
Johnjay: "Oh she woke up! Sorry Jesse, she fainted when you said that she was beautiful."
Kyle: "Shut up!"
*Rich and Jesse laugh.*
Jesse Nunez: "A few of the tracks that are done are mostly just me but I am going to have a few artists on the album that I haven't collaborated with before such as Childish Gambino and Kid Ink."
Rich: "You've haven't had a tour yet ever with any of your other albums. Are we going to see one this time around?"
Jesse Nunez: "Well I was always on the road wrestling every night and couldn't do a full pledge tour at the same time. I would've been worn out. There might be a tour this time around but I can't make any promises."
Rich: "About wrestling. Are we done seeing you in the ring or are you going to come back soon?"
Jesse Nunez: "Well as you probably know I'm retired. But I retired before but I came back for a few months so I wouldn't say I will never be back in the ring."
Johnjay: "Why did you come back the first time? Did they call you back or you what?"
Jesse Nunez: "I got a call from President Jeff. The owner of Action Packed Wrestling. He had a megastar there who was thinking of retiring early. He thought it was because he had such a hard time getting a win and he hates to see his talent leave especially since he was fairly new to the business. So I agreed to come back and have a program with him and I was suppose to make him look good even if he lost."
Johnjay: "I understand you hated him. Was that all part of the storyline or did you really hate him?"
Jesse Nunez: "Well I was suppose to come back as the bad guy and make him look good and put him over for the crowd. He was losing crowd support and he was suppose to be one of the top good guys there. I came back and the fans loved me. They didn't care that I was the bad guy, they loved me more than him. No matter how much I put them down. The fans aren't stupid they could see that he didn't put anything into his character and he was just like didn't care to give me the time of day to help me help him; ya know? I came out of retirement to help him and he just didn't care for the product. So for that I did grow a hatred towards him. I really do hate him now. That's why in my last match I beat the Hell outta him. It was a personal thing."
Rich: "Wow. That is crazy I didn't know you guys really hated each other."
Jesse Nunez: "Oh yeah, believe it or not some of these storylines are real. There are guys who literally want to kill each other backstage and Jeff allows it as long as it is in front of the camera. It's not like the old days when there was a script. There is no script in APW."
Johnjay: "I understand they have some sort of Hall of Fame. I'm not a big sports guy but I know that is a big deal. Are you in it?"
Jesse Nunez: "I am not in it right now. No."
Johnjay: "Why not? Will you ever by in it?"
Jesse Nunez: "Honestly I don't know. I mean I did everything there is to do in the business. I was in some of the biggest main events in wrestling history. I've held on to some of the prestigious titles including a few World championships was also the youngest World champion in a few companies, I became one of the most marketable guys in the business with my fan support."
"Maybe I haven't been gone for too long? Perhaps they feel I haven't done enough to make it in there. From what I've seen on twitter and facebook there are a few petitions out there to have me put in there."
Rich: "Does it bother you that you haven't been inducted into the Hall of Fame?"
Jesse Nunez: "Of course. I put in so much hard work, blood sweat, and tears for the business. I know that is such a cliche thing to say, but its true. But when the day comes I know I'll be thankful to be a part of such a prestigious group of individuals. If it doesn't come then I guess it just wasn't suppose to be."
Johnjay: "Well Jesse its been great talking to you and thanks again for coming on the show."
Jesse Nunez: "Thank you for having me, its been a pleasure."
Rich: "We hope one day you get in the Hall of Fame."
Jesse Nunez: "Me too."
