Any Walking Dead fans?? The Season 2 finale aired last night and I thought it was excellent indeed. Spoilers abound below as well as Season 3 news, so do not read if you haven't watched or want to watch in the future or just don't want to know about Season 3.
So after an explosive last three episodes to the second season, we said goodbye to one of the main characters, Shane, as well as Dale. Shane had become the antagonist/"villain" of the season, but not in your typical sense. Many people believed Shane was right at times....but his obsession with being the alpha male and jealous of his best friend couldn't last forever in this story. After two attempts to kill Rick (one at which Rick forgave him and saved his life)...Rick finally put him down.
For those that don't know, Shane and Dale's death....while maybe planned to happen from the start at this point, we a definite because both actors respectfully asked to be let go of their contracts only because they wanted to work with Frank Daranbot, who created this show but was let go after the first season due to AMC budget cuts. And these actors want to work with him on his new 1950's LA Cop drama on TNT.
But onward to the events in the finale. Finally it's revealed what Dr.Jenner told Rick at the end of Season 1 at the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, that everyone is infected already...you just have to die to come back alive, not necessarily be bitten by a walker. The group is furious with Rick when he reveals this but tells them it woulda made no difference and he wasn't even sure if it was true since Jenner seemed like a crazy man. But once he saw Shane come back after being stabbed...he then knew for sure.
The farm is finally overrun as the walkers followed a helicopter seen in Atlanta during season 1. Man are these walkers slow lol...took them a while but they finally found the farm. All mayhem breaks loose as Rick and Carl are stuck in the barn and resort to burning it to the ground to escape. Hersechel wants to defend his farm to the death and the group take down as many walkers as they can. But it's too much and it's everybody for themselves. Jimmy/Patricia do not make it. Andrea saves Carol's life but is then left behind to fend for herself when it seems she went down with a walker.
Rick drags Herschel away and they watch as the farm, their thought safe haven, burns to the ground.
They all slowly go back to the highway spot designated for little Sophia (who died as a walker midway through the season). Everyone is accounted for (dead or alive) but Andrea but they think she's dead when T-Dog says he saw her go down. Now Rick reveals to Lori that he killed Shane, he had to, had no choice. And that Carl put him down when he became a walker. Lori is furious...perhaps because she did love Shane or perhaps she blames herself for goading them both into some kind of duel.
Andrea runs and runs through the woods for hours, running low on ammo and becoming exhausted. But she will fight to the death and when it looks like she's a goner, someone saves her. A mysterious woman in a cloak, a samurai sword and two armless/jaw less walkers chained to her
-For those who don't read the comics or hear rumors, her character is a highly popular one named Michione. She will be played by Danai Gurira (Treme).
At the midnight camp site, the group is torn as Carol stirs up doubts about Rick for lying. Rick tells them he killed his best friend for the group, he's protected them and got them off the farm. He tells them they can leave now and do better if they can. Nobody takes the offer and Rick asserts his authority, saying this is his way or the highway.
As the episode closes, the camera pans up and looming in the distance is a gigantic facility. For readers of the comics....they know this is the Prison, perhaps the best "season" of the books.
Such an awesome scene. Awesome finale. I can't wait for the Prison. It is going to create some great tension. They have already cast "The Governor", who runs the facility and the people who have stayed there under his rule.
There are rumors that The Governor's group will indeed be the same group Randall was apart of. Also rumors that Merle, Daryl's brother from Season 1, will perhaps show up in The Governor's group.
The Governor will be played by David Morrissey
Could create some awesome scenes, maybe making Daryl chose between his brother and Rick/the group. How will Andrea feel being left behind? Who does the Helicopter belong to...The Governor? The Military?
Will there be a cure?
Not sure, but I can't wait for this. Season 3 will be 16 episodes, 8 in the fall around Halloween and the rest of the season after the Superbowl.
