Anyone else catch it this week?
Overall solid show this week with plenty of good build towards Wrestlemania.
- Punk cut his best promo in months, good to see him not burying his opponent. Jericho is pulling off the sleazy heel a dream, how he cut from heartfelt apology about Punk's father to further goading about Punk's sister was vintage.
- I'm glad they put Cena/Rock a little on the backburner this week after the awful finish to last week's show. It was a much better promo (if pre-recorded) from Dwayne this week because he was actually selling the match rather than just making a bunch of corny jokes. What happened to the Dr. of Thuganomics though? It was back to SuperCena this week, especially in his match with Henry. Not sure about 'the message' Rock sent though, he Rock Bottomed a Mark Henry who Cena had beat up...oooh, scary! The lack of face to face confrontation is really hurting this feud though.
NB: I kind of feel sorry for Henry, he has been built up again over the past couple of weeks just to give Cena a credible pre-Mania win, and he had to take a Rock Bottom afterwards too.
- I wasn't so sure about the Taker/HHH/HBK final segment before it happened, and it didn't really give the show the hot ending which I think it was expected to. It was a good promo by Trips, even if it was basically the same promo he has been cutting for over a decade now. What made it worthwhile for me though was HBK's reaction to Taker's taunt that he always knew HBK was better than Trips. The way that smirk crept across HBK's face was brilliance.
- Good work by Cody/Big Show in their piece.
- I'm a bit disappointed with how the Bryan/Sheamus World Title match has barely got any hype. At the moment this is the match I care least about (I take it as a given that the Divas match and the GM v GM match are excluded already).
- Zack Ryder was back in action this week, not exciting in its own right, but there was absolutely no reference to the kayfabe broken back he had suffered, the comms made reference to him having a bad few months, but the blame was put at the hands of Johnny Ace not Kane/Eve/Cena. It's only a small issue regarding a midcarder, but still its really bad booking to simply sweep this under the carpet and expect your audience to do the same, especially when it was one of the main storylines for about 5 weeks (Ryder getting beat up by Kane so that Cena would embrace the hate). I get we have to suspend our disbelief when watching pro wrestling, but not to that extent.
