"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin." – Mother Theresa
{{The scene opens to a beautiful shot of Hixon Lake which is located near the affluent Westchase suburban community in Tampa, FL. Westchase is the where APW mega star Anthony Bailey was raised. It’s a warm sunny morning and the lake, usually a place of enjoyment for fishermen, is desolate. Clad in a plain white T-shirt, black sweatpants, and a pair of black and white Nike sneakers, Anthony slowly strolls along the lake’s pier with his hands in his pockets. With a more serious demeanor than his usual relaxed one, he begins to speak.}}
Anthony "The Promise" Bailey: I know what you all are probably thinking…you’re probably wondering why is he at some random lake staring off into space? Did he bypass the gym for this? Shouldn’t he be preparing for Rasslemania? Or shouldn’t he be brainstorming some witty rebuttal lines for Chaz Dillinger? Well to speculate on my part and answer your questions, I am at a location that has been apart of my life for as long as I can remember. I used to come here often to relax and to free my mind of stress. If these ripples could talk, they would probably expose some of my deepest and darkest sensations. This is the same lake that I came to weep at after my grandparents had died, the same lake that helped me deal with my bout of mild depression back in high school, and the same lake where I shared my first kiss with a special young lady back in the day.
This place is teeming with personal history and as I stand on the brink of a very crucial point in my career, I knew that this would be the perfect place to both inspire me and to help me alleviate minor anxiety. What’s the reason for anxiety you might ask? Is it the fear of losing to Dillinger for a second time? Is it the fear of buckling under pressure and not being able to measure up to the expectations of others? No, it’s not either of those at all. It’s a fear of changing or “selling out” on the fans once I become the new Tap Out Champion. Will I still be as humble as I was before I had the belt or my contract with APW? Will I still be the same approachable mega star if you see me out and about at the mall or something? They don’t call me The Promise for anything because in the past, I’ve promised to always remain true to my fans and to never act too Hollywood for you all. You’re the reason why I’m even here in the first place so I could never forsake you.
Anthony exhales a sigh of relief and seems less tense than before. Anthony possesses the gift of motivational speaking and the crowd that he has had the most impact on so far has been himself. Encouraging others was easy but encouraging yourself in the midst of conflict proved difficult, so if achieved, the greatest obstacle has already been overcome.
How can Chaz Dillinger possibly boast about him being the reason that Kid Dynamo is no longer here? Dillinger put the stronghold on him and made him hightail it out of here correct? I find this pathetic because Kid Dynamo was already talking about reevaluating things and possibly leaving to take on other ventures. But according to you Dillinger, being the almighty epitome of an alpha male who has an unmatchable Napoleon complex, you were the sole reason why Dynamo exited stage left. I guess that little pep talk from Nathaniel Havok has you feeling like you are ten feet tall and therefore uncontainable. Even though Kid Dynamo beat you; you were simply too much for him at the end of the day. Now I’m going somewhere with this as my words always do. My words paint exquisite portraits while Dillinger’s trivial chatter is synonymous to a pre schooler’s finger painting activity.
Vain babbling is not in my nature like it is for Chaz Dillinger, but take me, a man who tries his best to remain humble under all circumstances defeated both Rhonda Vixen and Dan Quinn and they are both no longer here. I never once felt the need to boast about the fate of Vixen and Quinn because my actions speak for themselves. I made them tap out and in doing so; I advanced in the tournament and am now competing for the Tap Out Title at Rasslemania. Of course I expect Dillinger to shoot the breeze about how Vixen and Quinn were subpar competitors and me beating them means absolutely nothing. I could say the same thing about Kid Dynamo but it would all be untrue and I refuse to purposely misspeak. Kid Dynamo was not a below average competitor and if he was, what does that make you since he fairly beat you?
Though the rookie in me wants to embrace all of the insecurities in the whole world and tell me that I’m not ready for a grand stage like Rasslemania or that I don’t have what it takes to outsmart and defeat Dillinger, my track record swiftly trumps that assessment. This amateur trained poetic boy from Tampa is scheduled to fight America’s Most Wanted this coming Sunday in Indianapolis. It’s no accident that I have already come this far in my concise career and it’s no accident that I am the underdog going up against a man who has previously beaten me before. Though that was true the first time around, as I don’t like to deny the obvious facts like my dear friend Chaz Dillinger, the outcome this time around will be remarkably different. I’m more confident and more physically productive than I was during the other times.
While the bright lights along with all the glitz and glamour have blinded the eyesight of Chaz Dillinger, it will serve me as a platform to enable the proper preparation for my future. Chaz Dillinger might be America’s Most Wanted but I am America’s Most Needed and I don’t mean that in a boastful sense. It’s easy to desire the rich, flamboyant character of a person like Chaz Dillinger but before long you will realize that there’s not much substance there. It’s like finally getting the guts to ask out that gorgeous woman you always wanted to take out on a nice date only to find out that she has one of the worst attitudes you’ve ever seen.
And if you’re like me, attitude always outweighs beauty no matter how attractive you are. And that’s how I see Chaz Dillinger. He is not a person who captures the hearts of fans because of his humanitarian morality or his model behavior; he tries to capture the hearts of Americans with his checking account. He tries to buy the affections of people but at the end of the day no amount of currency could ever purchase loyalty and respect from others, it has to be earned. And since you or your father J. Robert Dillinger wouldn’t know anything about what it means to truly earn something, I am once again talking over your head. What a tragedy this has become, but oh…what a result it shall be.
Wants can’t ever sustain a person; it’s what someone needs that nurtures them. A young child could want more than their fair share of sweets but do they really need them? That’s a completely different story. This company does not need another champion who will simply get by and meet the average expectations. No, this company needs a champion who will defy the odds and exceed the expectations. Unlike Dillinger, I don’t have to sell anyone on why I should be the next Tap Out Champion. My words have done all of the selling for me. Since day one, I’ve aimed to uphold much integrity with my oration. I don’t view my promo time in front of a camera as a means to verbally abuse my opponent prior to physically abusing him at Asylum or on a pay per view event. My time in front of this camera or any other is a time to allow people to participate in my personal life as I encounter both triumphs and failures in this business.
The fans not only witnessed a vulnerable Anthony Bailey after my debut loss to Johnny Rebel but they engaged with me intimately during that pivotal moment in my career and they saw that I was a regular person just like them. They were also able to partake with me as I dedicated my heart and soul to the Tap Out Tournament. And come Sunday, they will be able to participate in my greatest triumph to date…being the new Tap Out Champion and giving the vacant belt that has faded into obscurity over the past few months some merit. The great deception of Chaz Dillinger is that he actually thinks he will be able to bring honor to that piece of gold. What champion is more concerned with a lush lifestyle than being a champion of dignity? All of the great figures throughout history had being something of true value at the center of their lives and nothing else.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Abraham Lincoln, Socrates, and Mother Theresa are among these individuals who looked beyond themselves and always had the bigger picture in mind.
Talking about such inspiring figures has allowed Anthony to gain the confidence he needs. He aimed to not only to be like them in deed, but in word also. Persuasive words carry weight and Anthony was well aware of this.
Notice that I said at the center and that I didn’t say first place because it’s easy to have something first in your life. Your career, your family, your spouse, or whatever could easily be the top priority but as soon as you’re done with the task that the first obligation in your life brings, you move onto the second, then the third, and so on. Received that killer bonus at work? Cool, now let’s move onto the next thing. My family is taken care of? Cool, what else? My spouse is pleased with our quality of life? Bam, I’m the man so now what? But if something is at the center of your life, it can’t be an item on a checklist; it has to be the foundation of who you are. And the center of my life is being crowned the new Tap Out Champion because that will usher in a whole new plethora of opportunities for The Promise.
Defeating you Chaz is not at the center of my life because for one, the thought of you nauseates me and two; you really aren’t that important to me so it wouldn’t benefit me at all to be mentally consumed with a man like you. But I am unable to have one without the other so I must defeat you at Rasslemania in order to reach my goal. My other dream is for us to one day have some sort of intelligent dialogue but all of that upscale makeup you wear and hair products you use must have corroded your brain cells over the years because that would be impossible for us to do. I would prudently, to the best of my ability, lay out an argument as to why I am better equipped to be the champion but before I’m done, you would probably cut me off in a rude manner, curse me out, boast about the past, and call my mother and my girlfriend whores.
In reality your childish antics are expected Chaz but in my utopian society of having you intelligently explain to me why I am unfit for the position of representing APW as a champion, it would be evident that I already defeated you without even raising a finger. In your fraudulent world, it’s about who’s the toughest, the richest, the most handsome, and an excess of other ridiculous characteristics. But in my world, the real world, mental ability is never overlooked and most of the times often preferred. It doesn’t matter if an amateur like Frank Cavalli trains me or if the upper echelon of the professional wrestling world trained me, because at the end of the day, I fight smarter than you. And for me, fighting smarter always precedes fighting harder.
You can talk a lot of nonsense but backing it up at Rasslemania will be a serious issue. Financially you are wealthy but at the core of your disposition, you are impoverished. You reside in the shadows of a man who is on his way out of here for good once President Jeff defeats him. You are the great pretender and pretend as if you have it all together but you really don’t. You don’t rest easy at nighttime because you are too concerned about money and fame. Dillinger, if you are as good as you hype yourself up to be, then why didn’t you wind up coming out of this tournament undefeated? The answer is simple…Anthony Bailey has served as the sole barrier between you and the title. No other opponent but me has put up a good fight and taken you to your limits. The reason why the amateur jokes or the poetic jokes seem like cheap cop outs to me and anyone else who has some common sense is because they are.
I surprised you with my in ring abilities and once you figured out that you couldn’t squash me with ease like you thought you were going to, then you started to panic. The man who was perceived as having it all together on camera in his thousand dollar suits was starting to become nervous because a twenty one year old with no prior professional experience was becoming his worst nightmare. The more you attempted to knock me down, the more determined I was to rise up. Chaz, if you recall the movie Lake Placid from the late nineties, then you will realize what best defines our current situation. There was a lake in the movie, similar to this one, but at the bottom of it lay a ferocious thirty foot crocodile. The movie was far from great but the plot did a pretty decent job of communicating how the individuals residing in the small town were unaware of the beast below them. Even with all of your fortune and fame Chaz, you are just like those small town people. You truly have no idea what awaits you inside of that ring at Rasslemania. If you thought you had how I operate down to a science, then you had better rethink your strategy. Make the most of this weekend Dillinger. Throw a ritzy pre-Rasslemania party at your mansion and pop all of the champagne bottles you’d like. Heck, take Helena out to see The Hunger Games for all I care because come Sunday night, you will go down once and for all at the hands of Anthony Bailey. Until next time…
