Step right up ladies and gentlemen, town and scum of all shapes and sizes for the next game of Mafia, brought to you by fresh faced yuppie scumbag Michael Callahan!
With LA Noire Mafia winding up, which might I had was an absolute joy to play so big ups to Kurt, Jeff has suggested that I should get my sign-up going now and keep momentum going so there's not a big delay between the current game and the next one. I completely agree, as I'm sure you're all hungry to sink your teeth into a new round of Mafia.
There is however... a problem.
Ol' Callahan here is an indecisive fuck. I have two themes set out, mapped out with character PM's all ready and everything. However I'm not sure which one I want to do so I'm going to leave it in your hands. Due to there being less characters in one theme than the other I'll make it like this, if 15 people or less sign up for this game then we will play the Hitman theme. If that 15 limit is surpassed then we will play Splinter Cell. However, we will have no more than 18 players. Too many and it becomes cumbersome.
So, what are those themes I hear you asking? Well, they're very simple. Allow me to explain.
The themes I have chosen are stealth based video games of which I and I am sure some of you APWers are fans of. They fit the theme, their distinctive characters are adaptable to the rules of Mafia and Lord knows they'll play out amazingly for write-ups.
The choice here ladies and gents is;
Hitman: Codename 47 VS Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
The first theme is Hitman, a series about a genetically enhanced clone who's legendary reputation for efficiency and concealing his handiwork makes him one of the most sought after assassins in the world. The game usually revolves around 47 receiving a contract from The Agency and then setting off to some far off locale to take out a ruthless scumbag criminal who really should be dead. That, for me is the major pay-off. Playing a game where you are rewarded for bumping off computer hackers, paedophiles, arm dealers and gangsters is an incredible relief and this grizzly underworld that 47 finds himself in makes for an excellent backdrop for write-ups.
The second theme, Splinter Cell is a political, stealth espionage thriller penned by the legendary Tom Clancy. In the original (and best) game of the series, two missing CIA agents deep undercover in the upper echelons of the Georgian (the country) executive suddenly vanish into thin air. Investigation into their deaths triggers a massive information crisis and a series of events which almost leads the US into a huge war with China. This Georgian Information Crisis is the catalyst for the flavour of the game and will be enjoyable to write as I hope it is to read.
You have from now 'til Sunday to sign up and then I'll start the game officially a week today.
