Alright, so I am not sure who did or didn't watch WrestleMania 28 but I know I did and I have quite a few opinions on the match. I was wondering what other people thought of the show as well. Maybe I am wrong or maybe I graded the show just a little too hard. None the less though, what is that you guys think of the show?
Here's what I thought of the situation!
+++ +++ +++ +++ +++
Tbh I didn't expect much from this Mania. The card was a complete let down to begin with aside from Cena/Rock, Taker/HHH, & Punk/Jericho. It was one of the worst WrestleMania's in recent years. I know people are going to be on my ass for the comments, I am about to make but it happens.
Sheamus/DB - Bullsh!t match! Complete bull. I don't get the point of building DB to be this kind of heel that he is. If you are going to have him job in 18 seconds. This was clearly Triple H's booking to put his boy Sheamus over. I don't mind that Sheamus won. I just mind how they did things. It should have been an actual match. This is no better than what they did with them last year. They got scrapped off the main card for the US title and then this year we get an 18 second match. I feel as fans we were robbed of a potiental great wrestling match.
Kane/Orton - I wanted Orton to win. I'm a huge Orton fan, so to see him lose at WrestleMania to Kane of all people. It truly shocked me, but I guess in a sense. I understand it. They brought the heel/masked Kane back only to feed him to Cena in which he lost. So Kane obviously needed some kind of momentum to get things back in his favor. What better way than a win over the second biggest face in the company? Makes sense, but the match itself wasn't that great. It isn't as good as some of the matches the two have had with each other.
Show/Rhodes - I cussed one side down the other when Rhodes lost. It makes no sense at all for Rhodes to lose here at Mania. I understand he had everything in his favor leading to Mania and what not, but clearly they aren't going to be moving Rhodes to the Main Event scene within the next couple months. He should have retained here and went a little longer with the belt. Then dropped it when they were going to put him in the Main Event. Idk, this match was okay wrestling wise but it just made no sense with the end result. I hope they have some big plans for Rhodes because he was my favorite champion on the roster and really has won me over the last few years.
Beth & Eve/K2 & Maria Menounos - ROFLMMFAO! That sums it up pretty much. The match was horrible like I expected and like a lot of other people expected. We knew what the outcome was going to be. I think the best part of the match / the thing that shocked me was when K2 actually flipped off the top rope and landed whatever the move was called on Beth without anyone getting hurt. I give major props for that. Other than that, not much to say about this match.
Taker/HHH - I'd like to start off by saying their match last year was better than this one. I kind of had a feeling it would be because after all. With WWE being so "against violence & blood" I knew a HIAC wouldn't be a good match for the two to compete it.
Secondly, I LOL'd so hard when Taker came out wearing the coat he was wearing. It reminded me of Super Shredder from the Ninja Turtles movie. I also liked his hair cut, though I think it would have worked better if he had done the American Bad Ass gimmick. And Taker looked in way better shape this year than what he looked like last year. Guess that's what a year off can do for you.
As far as the match goes. It was good and it was entertaining, but last years was better. I literally popped out of my chair when Shawn connected with the Superkick on Taker and Hunter pedigreed him. I was like "Yes! It's FINALLY over!" But of course I should have known better because it wasn't lol. End result being Taker winning. HBK's emotion and facial expressions added a lot to this match.
But the thing that truly won me over with this was when HBK & Taker helped HHH out of the ring. Then all three of them hugged each other at the top of the ramp. That will be a moment in history that I will never ever forget. I actually got a little choked up about it. Great to see them break character or whatever you want to call it like that. Truly was an end of an era.
Team Johnny/Team Teddy - I'll be honest. I said from the beginning that when Miz was announced for Team Johnny that he'd be the one that took the pin fall. I even said it when the match started. I know Miz has fallen out of the good graces of the WWE higher ups and I seen him taking the fall for this one seeing as he hasn't won a match in months. As soon as Ryder pumped up for the Ruff Ryder. I was like "It's all over. Miz jobs to Ryder at Mania!" but much to my surprise he hit the Skull Crushing Finale. And he won. I approve. I clapped. I marked. I just want to see where things go from here.
Side note: For this match, it should have been an elimination styled tag match. Just saying!
Punk/Jericho - EPIC MATCH UP! These two put on the match of the night. It was a great WRESTLING match and told an even better story. I was happy to see that Punk retained in the end. I feel he needed it more than Jericho needed the title. Besides, I don't think Jericho is going to be sticking around much longer but time will tell.
Cena/Rock
And here's the match where I'll get all the heat/told that I don't know what I'm talking about or that I'm a mark for one or the other.
First of all: It was a crappy wrestling match. Reason it was crappy would be because neither one of them wanted to really work together. Rock didn't want to do anything Cena wanted to do. He sandbagged Cena several times and it was the exact same with Cena. He sandbagged Rock and didn't wanna do anything that Rock wanted to do. These two have too much of an EGO about them when it comes to each other and both of them hate each other too much ti put on a good match. It truly suffered because of that.
Secondly: Both of them were highly unprofessional! For all the reasons I mentioned before. I also have a theory that very well could be wrong but at the same time it'd make sense. I have this gut feeling neither one of them were told a finish to the match. They were just told to go out there and work a match. Then when it was time for a finish, the referee was told by Vince through the earpiece and then the Ref told them. Reason, I think this is the case is because when the ending of the match came. You could tell by Cena's face he wasn't very happy and he didn't seem to really care. When he tried to mock the people's elbow. It was lack lustered and came off as if he just didn't want to do it because he knew he was going to lose seconds later via Rock Bottom. If this is the case. They are both in the wrong for being unprofessional and disrespectful to the sport/the business.
Thirdly: I know that people wanted Cena to win and imo Cena did need the win more than The Rock did. But I don't have a problem with the finish. I'm cool wth Rock winning seeing as I was a Rock fan as a kid AND ... yes there's an and. Despite this being booked as a "Once In A Life Time" match. It isn't over between them. Cena is going to get his revenge and Rock is going to pass the torch in a sense to Cena. I don't see Cena turning heel, but I do see him being a little more aggressive. These two are going to have at least one to two more matches with each other. It just has to happen, it surely couldn't end the way it did and it all be good between them. It doesn't make sense and WWE isn't going to drop the ball like this.
And Finally: I'm not sure how everyone else feels, but I am so over this thing with the two of them. Despite the feeling that it isn't over. I wish it was. I don't want to see the same crap with them anymore. Rock needs to go back to Hollywood and Cena needs to focus on doing what he needs to do. It makes so much better for them personally & professionally. It's so much better for WWE and it is so much better for the fans. Just my take on the situation.
Like I said it wasn't that good of a Mania. It's one of the worst ones and its easily forgettable. There were no real WrestleMania moments as Mario pointed out. I was looking forward to Edge spearing someone one final time. There wasn't anything that really made this Mania stand out like it should have, But here's to hoping WrestleMania 29 is better!
Here's what I thought of the situation!
