I'm hardly the biggest fan of Cena, but my respect for him went up a whole heap after this. After working a pretty long and hard year, and many, many years before that he gets jobbed to Rock for no significant reason, and then gets IC humiliated by a guy who ditched the company, came back for a one-year stint (with the likelihood of working a tick over a month for the next year), with the aim (I imagine) to jobbing him out by the end against Lesnar.
Unless this is the start of a long-burn heel turn for Cena (unlikely, because I imagine the WWE like what he does now, splitting the crowd now and selling buckets of merch), I think Cena has shown himself to be the ultimate company man - and probably deserves a lot more respect that he gets.

Quite the contrary, actually. Rock's victory over Cena ironically protects Cena in the long run because if Cena were to defeat Rock, the victory would be overshadowed by how often Cena wins(as he acknowledged on the go-home show to Mania by stating 'not only do i rise above hate, i always win ' very smugly). What I believe WWE should aim for is turning Cena into a human like Batman instead of superhuman like Superman. There's a reason people generally prefer the former over the latter. Mind you, John Cena is roughly 34 years old. He'll at least be WWE's company man for another six years so it's crucial to keep him fresh if they wish to continue milking him unlike Hulk Hogan who eventually had to 'retire' in the early 90's because he became useless in a marketing sense. Also, this sets up a Rock versus Cena rematch in the future in the vein of Austin versus Rock WrestleMania series except this time for the WWF Championship, perhaps? Either way, this is an interesting road for Cena and him jobbing to Lesnar as well is definitely for the best. Let him struggle for a while before kicking him back into high gear. That's what everyone wants, really. It isn't about turning him heel (and I personally think he should never go heel since he already has the best of both worlds with the dual chants) but giving him obstacles too 'large' for him to overcome sometimes.

I want to see Cena as a her because it's differet. Only reason I watched Raw was because Lesnar was back - something different. If Cena stays the same and they keep putting things in front of him (because they've done it before), whats interesting there? Everything's predictable these days, so throwing something new in the mix would get some interested.
You even said, Takagi, keep him fresh. What's more fresh than new?
I certainly don't agree with your contrary interpretation. Cena didn't need protecting. Really, he didn't. Long or short.
Anyway, I didn't say anything about protecting or what, I just wanted to point out that he showed pretty decent loyalty to a company, rather than throw his weight around like others.

I'm confused. I thought your points were Cena is undervalued and that you find his latest 'jobbings' unjustifiable?

I mark for F-5s and I don't care who knows it.
P.S.: Jeff, surely you know better by now. Wrestling sites are off-limits until you've watched the wrestling show you are currently behind on unless you want to be spoiled.
Facebook, too.
