I just figured I'd stir shit up... I think Tupac and the Beatles are extremely over-rated. Go.

They're all dead except for one of the Beatles, I think.. And Tupac was great but hes also dead. So this is pretty pointless to even talk about. I personally don't care for the Beatles cause I never liked their music. And I have Tupac songs on my Ipod cause I like his songs.

how in the hell does someone being dead make them pointless to talk about... that was a dumb statement... I feel the beatles "may be" the most important band ever, but that doesn't mean that they "are". They sound pretty generic even when compared to bands of the time and for some reason the media or whatever likes to portray it as that they changed the face of music and shit like that but theres 100s of bands who were and are on the same level. As for Tupac... I just think he plain sucks balls. Never liked any of his songs and when people compare him to Biggie on any level except for the fact that they were both kind of the poster boys for their respective coasts I literally laugh in their face.

When I meant that they are dead, I meant that its not like they can release any new material to help make you like them.
You have to realize that they were all from different times. Times change, things they sang or rapped about back then won't matter to anyone today.
And you think Tupac is overrated because you never liked his songs. You are saying that because you are basing it because you never liked his music. He was on top of the rap game back when he was still breathing. Nobody was to his level in his messages that was in his music. He's worked with Legends in the rap game now such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, etc. Biggie and Pac were the poster boys from the coasts. Not now because they are obviously dead. Music doesn't even matter anymore when mentioning the coasts. There are no rivals just for the sake of having rivals pertaining to coast music. But both coasts still have their own style of rap music.
Today's rappers are inspired by Tupac, because when they were growing up they listened to him and guys like N.W.A., Ice T, and Too Short. That is why he is a big deal in the rap world, still today. Also because of things he said in his music, I know I mentioned that that in different times there are different issues. But some of his music still happens today with issues such as race, girls being mothers at 16, and war.
And you shouldn't try proving points by telling the other people that their statements are dumb. Because people might think that you saying that the Beatles and Tupac are overrated is a stupid statement, because so many people love them and they did help make their respected music so popular today.
By the way who is the most important band ever Streets? If you had to choose a band who would it be? And why do you think people would agree with your statement? You said it yourself, when compared to other bands of their time they are on the same level. So one of them has to be the face of that music, rather well be the band that has the strongest following. But then again that is just my opinion and I don't know much about that music because I'm not into that.

Never cared for 2Pac. Not really sure why. It's not like I dislike hip-hop or anything, but to be honest, the only two 2Pac songs I can even think of are Changes and California Love (granted, the latter is pretty fucking amazing... I remember watching that video when I was a kid and it blew my mind).
As for the Beatles; I like them. Well, correction, I like a good number of their songs. But, man, they put out some crap. With it's terrible history aside, I think Helter Skelter is an amazing song; and I love Revolution, Get Back, Let It Be, I Saw Her Standing There, and Yesterday; and those songs sort of run the spectrum of the different genres the Beatles dabbled in.
As musicians and the be-all and end-all of greatest musical minds in their respective genres, I'll say they are over-rated. But, as far as influence goes? I mean, just the fact that this discussion is taking place shows how influential they all are.
And for the record, two Beatles are still alive. Personally, I think your legacy can really only be measured after your dead, or in Paul and Ringo's case, not working together anymore.
Once you've said all you had to say, let's see how your art stands up to the test of time. I know the Beatles surely do. Just look at The Beatles Rock Band. That shit is coming out almost 40 years after they Beatles disbanded. FORTY FUCKING YEARS. Whether or not their music isn't your cup of tea, and even if you believe it's just people being sheep and going along with the norm; that has to say something about what they created.
As for Tupac; well, honestly, really can't form an honest opinion because I don't really know that much about his music. Tried listening to a few of his records, and just didn't like it. But that doesn't mean he's over-rated. It just means some white kid from Canada doesn't like his music.

Let me start by saying The Beatles though inspired musicians who are now inspiring other musicians, I really never cared for them. I mean Yesterday was a really good song but I could give 2 shits less about your yellow submarine.
Now when it comes to Tupac, I can't think of any rapper who'd I say would be better than him. Pac songs were all different in topic. He had songs like "Ambitions as a Rider" and "Hail Mary" that are considered gangsta rap classics. However, he also had songs like " Thug's Mansion" and "Changes" that were ulimately uplifting. He also had political raps, booty music, social commentaries. Unlike many rappers, Tupac seemed to rap on a completely different topic from song to song. Listen to rap music you hear today, all you hear is bout their bling bling thier cars and all the fine bitches they got...
When it comes to rap I think Biggie is the most over rated rapper EVER! When it comes down to the top 2 rappers of all time I say it's Pac for the west coast and I'd honestly say Jay Z is better than B.I.G. hands down!

my basic point is that neither of them mean shit to me in the long run. Yet for some reason people talk about them as if they did something different than every single other person was doing... they didn't. Tupac rapped about the exact same shit as Biggie Smalls did and vice versa save for some very specific instances. And NEITHER of them belongs anywhere near even the top 20 of the best rappers of all time if you were to ask me. Thats my whole point, they are credited with shit they didn't even do. And at this point I'm referring to all three (Bigge Tupac and the Beatles). It was coverage in the media that brought all of them to the level they are at. And as far as what Jesse is saying... I'm not changing what I said... it was a stupid statement. Now that you've clarified what you meant it makes sense but saying that it doesn't matter because their dead of itself is stupid. And I wouldn't expect people to agree with who I thought was better in the music world I'm just conveying that from everything I've listened to from Tupac... well... his lyrics are generic and his delivery is laughable when compared to the flow of a Biggie Smalls... The only nice thing I have to say about him is that Dr. Dre makes good beats.... and like i said Biggie isn't special either, but that's just my opinion. I brought this up because I got into argument with someone about it when they said the Beatles were the best band ever, I said "how"... and of course they had no answer. Sure their no doubt the most influential, but that means jack shit and I would consider it a very bad thing anyway for one band to be so influential when theirs so many damn talented bands out there from that era, before, and beyond.

Listen to a Tupac song. The lyrics just take you away. He is truely Rap's god. I have so much respect for him. His "G" persona wasn't just an act. He's a thug in the court room too. R.I.P. Tupac. You really are the best.

See, I feel the EXACT opposite about Tupac and Biggie. I think Pac was just so much better lyrically, he was more dynamic in what he rapped about and I thought Biggie was just kind of...MEH! I mean, there's like 2 or 3 songs Biggie spit that I like but aside from that I could due without Biggie. Hit Em Up is still one of the best diss tracks ever wrote.
Shoot, Lil Wayne even said the reason he thought Tattoos were cool and began to get ink is because of Pac. I mean I can't deny Biggie is also a major influence in today's hip hop. I just don't think he deserves as much credit as he gets
UNDER RATED: Yea, I'm going to go here, the most under rated rapper of all time is Eazy-E
(And Pac owns an island in the bahamas and just chills all day)

Without the Beatles, music wouldn't have evolved like it did, fact.
I'm a musician and a vocalist and I kind of know what I'm talking about. If you don't like them, that's fine, and you're entitled to your opinion. People like Elvis and Frank Sinatra were nothing more than glorified cabaret and karaoko singers (as am I when I'm not with my band), and didn't really affect music as such, but did affect the music industry.
As for Tupac, I don't like rap anyway, so don't care either way lol.

not to mention the fact that he's the pioneer of "emo rap"... eww What, you mean rap with a postive, and fluid meaning? GASP, SHOCK, HORROR. After all the talk about 50 cent sucking monkey balls, to come back with this, is damn near insane. If you want to say Tupac isn't the best rapper; fair enough, that's up for dispute. To say he sucks though, is ignorant. He had good lyrics, AMAZING content, and a postive message. You don't hear that type of real music anymore. It's all about half naked girls, busting caps, and songs about their swagger. The fact that he is pratically the face of rap/hip hop, leaves your opinions on him useless. Chances are, YOUR favorite rappers today looks up to Pac; and that pretty much says all that needs to be said. End discussion.

and I really don't see where this "positive message" comes into the picture either... Maybe its because I never liked him but out of the roughly a dozen songs i've heard from him there was no damn positive message involved... he was rapping the same bitches and hoes as everybody else, just in a shitty flow.

True; but I think you answered your own question. If his music was ''emo rap'' how did he ONLY rap about Bitches and hoes? I think that contradicts your point. Tupac was the one of the realest dudes out there, period. And I'm talking about your favorite MODERN day rappers, anyone who came after Pac. Why would someone be influenced by another artist when they came after them? I mean despite to a certain degree, it doesn't make much sense.
