JUSTIFED MAFIA RULES

*It’s basically the usual sort of stuff, but there may be some modifications so please read.*

1. Absolutely no talking about this game anywhere except in this thread, unless your role states you are allowed to do so. Anyone found guilty of doing so will be mod-killed and it will make you look like a giant arsehole to the rest of the community.

2. Once you’re dead you’re dead – NO MORE POSTING! I’ll make a QT for the dead.

3. No quoting PMs at all for any reason. Any questions about your role then PM the moderator. Don’t ask the moderator role-based questions in the game thread. I will cyber slap you if you do and/or take your powers away if you do this.

4. No talking at night. I will mod-kill your ass dead if you do this. No warning – straight mod-kill. (Consider this rule your one and only warning.)

5. Do not character claim under any circumstances. You will be mod-killed if you do. As far as role-claiming goes, strictly speaking it is not prohibited, but you should think about the pros and cons of doing so before you actually do it.

6. Under no circumstances are you allowed to edit your posts. I will be strict on this matter: do it once and you will lose your day and/or and night powers for a full day/night cycle (it's role dependent, and I will decide the penalty on a case by case basis). Do it a second time and you lose all powers for the rest of the game. If you're stupid enough to do it three times you will be modkilled. If you need to amend something post again with the abbreviation EBWOP (Edit By Way Of Post) as the title in the body of the message.

7. All posts must consist entirely of visible letters. Do not use text that needs to be highlighted to read, or is too small to be read, or involves any sort of nonsense that makes life difficult. You can code your messages/post pictures/links/videos, but do it sensibly.

8. When voting you must do so in bold, e.g. vote: Farq. Votes not in bold do not count. Unvoting should be done in the same manner, but I will count unvoting if it isn’t in bold. If you change your vote please try to prefix it with an unvote, e.g. unvote; vote: Dionysus. It’s not essential, it just helps me to keep everything organised.

9. You’re not dead unless I say you are. Until I confirm a lynch feel free to continue the discussion. (NB New Players: once the ‘hammer’ has been dropped a lynch cannot be undone by unvoting.)

10. Days last 72 hours (although I may shorten day 1 if need be, and days will end immediately in the event of mod-kills); nights last 24 hours, during which you submit night actions. If I receive all night actions early I may end the night prematurely. This is at my discretion and/or convenience.

11. Days and Nights begin and end when I say they do. Sometimes they may overrun for RL reasons, but adhere to the rules about day and night phases until I confirm transition to the next phase.

12. Please submit night actions by PM with a title that states the night your action pertains to, e.g. ‘Mafia Night #1 Action’. Again, this helps me to stay organised. For the benefit of any new players, do not submit night actions in the game thread. You won’t be punished for it, but you won’t do yourself any favours.

13. You don’t have to confirm your role, but feel free to do so. PM me if you haven’t received your role information, or if you have any questions about it. I’m repeating myself here, but do not ask the moderator role-specific questions in the game thread.

14. I expect you to be active. The game will not survive without activity, so get stuck in. If you are inactive for 48 hours I will prod you; if you don’t respond within 24 hours I will mod-kill or replace you.

15. Do not post in this thread if your name is NOT on the players list.

16. Remember it is just a game. Some people play the game more aggressively than others, so don’t take anything seriously. However, please refrain from personal insults and if there are any grudges held, then be so kind as to leave them outside the game. Respect your moderator and all players. If I think anyone is breaking this rule I will warn them; if they persist I will mod-kill them.

17. I reserve the right to change any of these rules as I see fit without notice.

18. I reserve the right to edit my posts as I see fit.

19. If you think I missed anything let me know through PM, but usual mafia rules apply.

Short version: No talking outside the thread unless instructed, no night-talking, no character-claiming, don’t edit posts or quote PMs, don’t be a dickhead and above all else be active and enjoy the game.

Night 0

Harlan County, Kentucky.

There is the sound of a window smashing downstairs that wakes Helen Givens in her home. She turns on the light and realises her husband Arlo Givens isn’t home and in bed next to her. There is a thudding sound and Helen thinks somebody is breaking into her home. Instinctively she grabs the shotgun and goes to investigate.

When Helen tracks the noise to the kitchen she can hear somebody fiddling around in the refrigerator; she smiles because it must be a drunken Arlo rummaging in the fridge for something to eat.

Helen: Dammit Arlo, you have any idea what time it is? You scared the ever-loving shit out of me.

But Helen is caught off-guard because it is not Arlo in her kitchen, but two foreign men. The one in the fridge turns to face her and reveals himself to be Dickie Bennett, a shotgun of his own in his hand; the other man, Dickie’s cohort, is unknown to her.

Dickie: Do you know you’re out of beer?

Helen: We drink liquor in this house.

Dickie: Are you offering liquor in this house?

Helen: No I am not. In fact I was just about to ask you to leave.

Dickie: Well, we were just about to tell you we need to talk to Arlo.

Helen: He’s not here.

Dickie smiles at his cohort and says with a sarcastic lilt.

Dickie: Cause Arlo is off somewhere with Boyd Crowder, countin’ my money.

Helen: I wouldn’t know about that.

Dickie: I tell you what, that don’t really matter, cause Arlo knows.

Helen: Then I think it’s best you be gone, cause if you’re still here when Arlo gets back, he is going to make what Raylan did to your knee look like a hand-job from an angel.

Dickie: The only thing Arlo is going to be doing is figuring how to get back to me what’s mine. Now, why don’t you put down the pea-shooter there and come on in. Come on in. C’mon make us some eggs or something, what d’ya say?

Helen: After Arlo gives you back whatever it is he took from you, what’ll you do to him then?

Dickie: What do you think?

Dickie cocks his gun. Helen has a worried look on her face. She eyes Dickie’s cohort, then looks at Dickie. She considers and decides to make her move, releasing the safety on her shotgun, but Dickie is quicker and as his gun fires...Helen slumps to the kitchen floor. Dickie unloads a second shot to make sure.

I have! Guess I'm the source-material guide for this game, although I know Jules has always been heavy on not delving too deeply into the flavor, so I don't expect us to need a whole lot of information for it.

Well, perhaps the people who have watched the show cuold tell us about some of the roles there might be? Maybe there are some roles that may be like way out of left feild that couldn't be in any other mafia games?

For example, I was reading through the fall out thread for the office supplies mafia game. The mob guy was a darn high lighter lol

Well, Justified is kind of like a modern day western, of sorts. I'm expecting a very cop/investigative roles heavy game because several of the prominent side character/the main character himself are cops. Likewise, my guess is the Mafia will have abilities to counter this/blend in. Because the Bennetts (and not the Crowders, shockingly) have been identified as the Mafia, expect at the least 3/ probably 4 Mafia members: Dickie, Doyle, Coover, and Mags. Mags is most likely the Godfather/mother. If there's only 3 Mafia members, it's possible a 4th anti-town could be an SK as Bo Crowder, but being that Boyd is town, we'll have to see if that element falls into play.

Well, only the mod knows specifically what "special roles" are in the game, apart from the Mafia knowing one another of-course. I'm just going to take this comment as newbie enthusiasm, ha. My guess is that Raylan Givens is definitely a vig of some sort, perhaps bulletproof. Like I said before, I'm expecting cops, which could also mean false cops that are naive or paranoid. Lastly, in the show, the Bennett family occasionally kills using poison, so night 1 will see if kills are immediate or not.
