General - These rules may be changed at the moderator’s discretion without announcement.
- This is my color (#1EFF00). Do not use it or impersonate me otherwise.
- Any questions you have may be PMed to me at any time or posted in the game thread. If you need my attention in the game thread, please use BOLD to call my attention.
- (Please, please, PLEASE!) Do not talk about this game outside of this thread, regardless of if you are a part of the game or not.
- Once you are declared dead, you are dead. No posting!
- Do not use hidden/encrypted text (such as invisible/small font, or other languages), or non-dark colors (only the default theme automatically changes colors to make all text readable).
- Do not use anything that can be proven as randomization during the game. If you say you rolled a die/flipped a coin/whatever, fine. Please don't use a dice code or anything of the sort here.
- Don’t be a jerk! Remember that Mafia is a game! You should definitely play to win, but you should know if something has gone too far; I reserve the right as moderator to enforce punishment as I see fit for abusive behavior.
Game Duration/Deadlines - One game Day lasts 5 OOC Days.
- One game Night lasts 2 OOC days (48 hours).
- These may be extended or shortened as necessary at the moderator’s discretion; in such a case, this will be announced in-thread.
Voting and Actions - During the Day, all living players can post and vote for who they want to be lynched, or they may vote for a No Lynch.
- You control your vote through bold tags, examples below.

- An unvote is not required to change your vote, although it is appreciated.
- If it looks like a vote, I will count it; no tricks!

- Abbreviated player names will be accepted in votes as long as I can reasonably understand who is being voted for.
- A lynch will occur when a simple majority of the players vote for the same person. Once a lynch occurs, the lynchee and the living players may talk in "Twilight" until I arrive and post the flip. No amount of voting or unvoting after the fact will undo a lynch.
- If the deadline hits before a majority vote is reached, the day will end with No Lynch.
- During the night, you may not post in the game thread.
- If your role has a night action, you may use it by PMing me which player(s) you wish to use your action(s) on. You may change your night action(s) as many times as you wish during the night phase; only the last action submitted will be used.
- If you do not submit a night action, it will count as No Action.

Hufflepuff House is one of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was founded by Helga Hufflepuff. Hufflepuffs are known for being trustworthy, loyal and hardworking, although many view Hufflepuff as the least clever house. Members reside in the Hufflepuff basement. According to J.K. Rowling, Hufflepuff roughly corresponds to the element of earth. Hufflepuffs are associated with trustworthiness, loyalty and a strong work ethic. Albus Dumbledore looks out at those gathered in the Great Hall, looking forward to the upcoming year. He holds his wand to his cheek, magically amplifying his voice over the sounds of the students and teachers alike. "Good evening... And welcome, to another year at Hogwarts. Congratulations to our first years on being sorted into your houses... My name is Albus Dumbledore, and I am the Headmaster. I look forward to the upcoming year.
Behind him at the head table, it seems not many are paying attention. Hagrid is talking with Professors Snape and McGonagall, and many of the other professors are discussing the upcoming year as well. Down on the floor, some of the older students aren't paying attention either. Draco Malfoy, still playing the role of chieftain among his fellow Slytherins, has been muttering about mudbloods and cursing the name of Harry Potter for some time. Harry, however, is enjoying the evening with his friends- Ron and Hermione, Ginny and Luna, Fred and George, Neville, and others seem to be enjoying themselves at the Gryffindor table.
"Silence,"Dumbledore's voice echoes throughout the Great Hall. Everything goes quiet. "This year, as an extra precaution, our Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Professor Snape, has worked hard to produce a charm to keep out all evildoers. You Know Who is back, and he will not stop until Hogwarts is no more, but thanks to some quick thinking by all of our staff, we believe the school to be safe. For now, I wish you congratulations on the start of another year, and good evening." He sits down, and everyone resumes their conversation, albeit some much more wearily with the imposing threat of Deatheaters, namely Lord Voldemort presented to them.
With 8/9 Confirmed, Day One begins now!
Deadline falls at 11:59pm eastern on Wednesday, August 12.

25-33% is the rule of thumb. So 3 is a bit high, but within margins. Two is a bit low, but also reasonable.
Frankly, I would not be surprised if it was 6/2/1, though my Harry Potter lore currently fails me as to who would compose a third party.

This statement is basically as good as saying nothing as it doesn't advance the theorycrafting as to how many Mafia we're dealing with. Throwing in speculation of a third party only muddles things further, possible early attempt at spreading paranoia. But it's scummier to me that Branden would feel the need to post just to say he agrees with the nothing statement.

Hey guys! Let's have a fun first day, yeah? Oh ... I see we're hitting the ground running haha. Ummm, I don't know how safe it is to speculate on numbers, but I'd be guessing two? 3 seems like it would be unfairly tilted to the anti-town? I mean, it takes 5 to kill at this stage and 60% of that would be anti-town? Plus, with some newbies in this? Is Speede that anti-town himself hahaha? I see 14 characters mentioned in the flavour. Interesting that there's no colours on characters names who would presumably be in the game (ie. Harry, etc.) - is it factions like the actual houses in the books? I mean, there's references to Slytherin and Gryffindor. Perhaps our anti-town isn't so clear-cut? And the way those names were written X and Y, X and Y, etc. - am I reading too much into it? Do we have paired characters? I'm probably making too much of some things there, but I guess it's just my eagerness coming though haha. |

I mean...you're not wrong. It was meant more as a "Hey, I'm here and paying attention now" with a dash of "It's day one and my god these days are going to last a long time aren't they?" thrown in.
From what I remember, third parties are common in APW mafia games, which is why I suggested the possibility of there being one.
Also, lol at the Branden vote. The more things change... *wistful sigh*

I suppose I should of mentioned I tend to play an aggressive scum hunting game. In a game where the enemy is expected to be deceptive, I analyze every tell I find. And voting is the best tool I have for getting answers and responses.
I don't normally like theorycrafting or "Guess the set up" as that requires a lot of assumptions and second guessing of the Mod. But just from the nature of this being Harry Potter and not looking like it's based after the events of the Prisoner of Azkaban I'd say there is no third party (Sirius Black could be an interesting third party if that were the case). There's not really a whole lot of characters in the story that are neither good guy nor bad guy it's usually pretty solid "Hogwarts People" Vs. "Voldemorts Minions".
Which tells me two things.
1) We are most likely dealing with a 3 Mafia set up.
2) I am suspicious of everyone thus far that has surmised the possibility of a third party. So consider FoS (Fingers of Suspicion) pointed at Kaji and Sally with my vote remaining on Branden for the time being.

The reason I posted was because the game had just started and I felt I had to post and say SOMETHING. So I read the posts and felt Kaji's post was the most agreeable and stated that because, as I said, I felt I needed to say something. I think it's funny that you're voting for me based on a simple comment.

...what I find to be curious about Crusher's play is that he's F.o.S.-ing both Kaji and SalTal for theorycrafting, as he called it, but yet my post which began all of it is not being called into suspicion at all. Am I exempt because I brought it up first with a brief post? Furthermore, why is expanding on my point of inquiry something to be considered suspicious when most first day posts are just dicking around and voting for Branden for nonsensical reasons?
Though if I'm being honest, 'budding with Kaji' because Branden added a little to his theory of who could be third party is nonsensical from where I sit.

So, here's my thoughts: I don't really buy the current push against Crusher. It reeks of a gung-ho player wanting to get the action in early - on day one. Seems likely to meet that if Crusher were sitting in a scum QT right now, they'd be saying something along the lines of "shut the Hell up and don't cause trouble." Crusher's game is the antithesis of a Mafia strategy, and for those reasons, I can't in good faith get behind this lynch. If we're seriously going to entertain this idea, investigate Crusher tonight and be done with it.
What does tickle my fancy is some of the subtle dirt-pushing towards Crusher so early on. It's not even day two, and I can't help but feel at least one person in this FoS/vote party is Mafia looking to lay groundwork (aka "Look! I was suspicious of him from the beginning!). It's just a bad sort of tango to dance to.
